China has greatly stepped up production of solar cells and are creating a glut. It has the advantage of cheap labor, lax environmental regulations and an undervalued currency. For Japan it is tough to compete with that.

Just awful. Afghanistan is hopeless. They can't even do Islam right.

    This is very, very sad.

It is clear that what the 'insurgents' are doing can not be condoned by any religion, and that includes Islam. There cannot be anything in the holy scripts behind which brutal murderers of children can hide.

Ai Miyazato claimed her second Evian Masters in three years on Sunday and pledged to donate some or all of her winnings to the victims of the earthquake that devastated northern Japan in March.

First of all I'd like to congratulate her on her outstanding performance.

As to what she stated about donating winnings, I don't know whether she spoke in English or Japanese. "pledged to donate" is not an actual quote. And if she had made her statement in Japanese, how was it translated? She may have made a clumsy statement, correcting herself while speaking. I see absolutely no reason to criticize her. She is a fantastic person with her heart in the right place.

Fuel consumption of the Mazda Capella is not so good, but acceptable. When driving no highways, only local roads, then approximately 10 liter / 100 km. When using highways, consumption drops to 8 liters / 100 km.

Fuel consumption is important, of course, for Fords as well as other makes! My 3.0 liter V6-24v Citroen returns 8 liters / 100 km on the motorway too :-)

The North Koreans refused to elaborate on the circumstances of the lightning incident.

    Enough to raise suspicions.

Well Ishihara said he was going to do this and Tokyo reelected him anyway.

Ishihara did not appoint himself as governor. It was the people who elected him and have largely themselves to blame for everything this man comes up with. Unfortunately not only the Tokyoites will foot the bill, but probably the whole nation.

Japanese rice is also a no no when eating curry.

Oh, no. You mean improperly cooked Japanese rice.

Are we talking about Japan? Yes, of course.

I think we don't need any more dumb rules. What we need is a police force that starts enforcing existing traffic regulations.

Karaagetsukuri (から揚げ作り)is a package containing a marinade and powder to prep the chicken for frying in 30 seconds. No way you can cook the chicken in 30 seconds! Poor copy writing here.

To begin with the title of this article is confusing. What comes next seems a compilation of random paragraphs concerning rare earth. Pacific floor? Mongolia? Let someone rewrite this article. please.

The Moody ratings are pretty much useless and far from reality. The financial infra structure in Europe is a mess. Member nations who thought they would have a permanent free ride have caused a disaster. Look what happened to the euro. The dream of a united europe is turning into a nightmare.

.. and what they fail to mention is that those batteries produce a lot of pollution, and that solar panels require oil to produce. Nuclear power, for all its bad press, is actually cleaner and more reliable per kilowatt than any other system available. Someone said of Capitalism, "It's the worst possible system... except all the others.". The same can be said of nuclear power, it's not ideal, but it beats the pants off all the alternatives.

Fact is that all materials used in the production of batteries can be recycled. For spent nuclear fuel, call it waste, there still is no solution. Nuclear waste will cease to be a threat to public health after 10,000 years. So much for cheap and safe energy.

Ms Banon is the god-daughter of Mr Strauss-Kahn's second wife, Brigitte Guillemette.

Quote from the BBC news page.

Things don't look good for Strauss Kahn. But I find the timing of Banon's accusations highly suspicious.

It is not just the credibility of the accuser which is at stake, but the one of the public prosecutors as well. The case should be dropped.

@tmarie: Well, you said it, you were not around and I can assure you: public transport WAS packed. And things were a lot worse then they'll ever going to be with the air conditioning temperature set a bit higher. You apparently haven't seen any film footage of the era either. You might want to look into that. With all due respect :-)

People might indeed get sick, I have to admit, because they are not prepared for changes. They are used to under cooled conveniences in summer. They'll have to adjust.
