Total bollocks. Willfully causing a panic possibly resulting in grave bodily harm or death can never be covered under freedom of speech.
Posted in: Does freedom of speech include the right to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater, yell "Shark" at a beach or joke about having a bomb on a plane, for example?

Most of the ransom paid, estimated to be around 80% goes into international crime networks. The pirates themselves get only a fraction.

The Adams took a known risk. There are other ways to distribute bibles I'd imagine.

At least in India 'It's a Sony' still means something.
Sony bashing now?
Personally I have nothing but good experiences with Sony products: TV, VCR, radios, cassette and cam recorders and their customer service is excellent.
I like that!

Deal with those doing the (dirty) work in the fields, the pirates, swiftly and ruthlessly, if necessary, and the ones behind the scenes will see their spoils dry up. Piracy on the high sees has always been punishable by death, not even talking about hostage taking, cruelty and distortion, and that's the way it should stay. It is an outrage that individual countries are loath to properly protect their vessels, rather the people who man them, deal with piracy under the pretense it will put crews at risk. The opposite is true. The pirates become bolder all the time. The lack of a firm attitude creates more and more outlaws feeding a network of terrorists.

*US District Judge Loretta Preska described the pirates as sadists, noting they had subjected Capt Richard Phillips to a mock execution.
"They appeared to relish even their most depraved acts of physical and psychological violence," she said.
Before she announced the sentence, Maersk Alabama crew member Colin Wright told the court he was "not the same person I used to be and I never will be".

Pirates have forfeited all their rights. They did so when they became pirates. Nothing poor Somalis. They do not deserve any kind of leniency.

A peaceful demonstration was severely dealt with by Republican Guards and riot police on motorbikes, the equivalent of thugs if you ask me, beating up the silent, but determined marchers. Disperse is a mild term. Unarmed people, including women and children were cowardly and viciously attacked by those who are supposed to protect them. It's time dictator Mahmoud is leaving.

Inalienable? The man is talking out of his - you figure it out. Successions of Soviet and Russian leaders have taken different stances on the issue. Changing their tunes, making promises of promises of concessions, of a solution to the dispute, but always being devious. Fact remains they can never be trusted. There is no need for Japan to kowtow before these people and it is free to press points where it thinks it is right. Here the territorial issue. I am disgusted by those who keep singing their monotonous tune, 'they are Russian, they'll never get them back, they should live with it'. Kan wanted points? Come off it man, he is right and he doesn't have to shut up because the Russians are the big strong, tough guys or because [ ] say(s) so.

Palin is plain stupid or she has a weird sense of humor. Or she is out of convenience completely ignoring the Reagan legacy. Somehow I remember what Margaret Thatcher said about him: "Poor dear, there's nothing between his ears." Could we say the same about Palin?

Latest scandal? You can blow it up as much as you want and the tabloids probably will help you blow it up. Actually it is just a minor glitch that has surfaced. I don't doubt for a minute that fixing bouts, matches, has always been a part of the sport. It will pass. Sumo will definitely survive. Just my 2 cents.
