    @Salsero

    Are sure she didn't belong?

Very, very absolutely. Why would you ask?

Freedom for women, freedom for women.

Yet I am glad my wife did not belong to the 1 in 500 :-)

Another identikit Japanese castle, built in the 1950s and with a fully working elevator.

@trulymad (indeed)I visited this castle a couple of years ago. It's beautiful and there weren't any elevators. You can elevate yourself with your own feet up the ancient steps.

World’s richest country the USA finished third in exporting last year

Ambiguous. Export volume? Efficiency? Profit margin?

Richest country? Ambiguous again. Richest for who? Percentage of population? Too many questions. Too few answers.

I have this dream where all the seats on all aircraft are actually wide enough to be comfortable, with armrests for each seat and enough space between each row so that the person sitting by the window or in the middle can get up to go to the toilet or stretch without making the person in the aisle seat get up, and, of course so that no one's knees are crushed. All this technology and most people who fly are not comfortable.

Someone already commented on this. It's true that it's all a matter of cost, profit and cut throat competition. I have been flying for more than 4 decades and I remember that in the seventies airfares were more than twice as high as now. Even higher probably due to devaluation of currencies. As an example: Japan - Europe cost 200 to 300 thousand yen round trip. Now it's less than half. If we were willing to pay those old fares we could all travel in super comfort.

Still I feel there should be clear international regulations put in place that guarantee both the safety AND the comfort for ALL passengers on board. Large people take up two seats on buses, trains, ferries and in automobiles. They need the same space on airplanes. The airlines need to provide that space and think of a pricing strategy fair to all passengers.

Not a big surprise. Towering over the net the Russian women have a definite advantage over the Japanese girls. Height is might.

Panties collector. Nothing wrong with that. It's like collecting stamps, coins or match boxes. Except here the items were stolen. I bet that's part of the thrill!

Yeah, go ahead, give us some more of your acrimony and your boorish diplomacy.

A beautiful place which I have visited many, many times. It's nice to see this photo here on JT, but it does not show the real beauty. Please come/go see Sandankyo any time of year. There are great hiking paths.

According to one of the diplomats in Beijing who said he has seen the letter, China cited its repeated position that Liu is a criminal for his advocacy of widespread political reforms and called the prize an interference in China’s internal affairs.

Pretty strong language. China seems really on a path with the thought it can control the world. 'Interference in China's internal affairs'. Ahh. Haven't read that great Chinese adage for a while.

I have heard somewhere (anonymous source) that China is considering a Tiananmen Peace Award.

Advanced nations, advanced states (it is thought) make advanced decisions. Marijuana should not be 'privatized' Keep it illegal and underground and under control of the mob. Congratulations.

A statement on the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s website said Yang told Clinton that the United States should act with discretion and make no “wrong remarks” on the sensitive issue of the islands. He also repeated Beijing’s claim to the islands and insisted the U.S. should respect China’s stance.

No nation is permitted to make 'wrong remarks', except China - of course. I am surprised China has not used their favorite adage 'interfering in internal affairs' yet. It will happen soon enough and the Senkaku will become another Tibet. Fortunately the heavy Chinese boots won't trample on humans; on the islands, I mean.

The sensitive issue of the islands.

I doubt China comprehends the meaning of 'sensitive'. But that aside, the islands China mentions are not just the Senkaku, they will insist, are going to insist, all islands in the east china sea, e.g. Formosa/Taiwan, the Japan archipelago, etc, belong to China since ancient times. Prepare for the apocalypse.

Any possible good she might be doing for ecology is destroyed by just one of the seemingly endless number of flights that she takes. Wake up Norika!

Yeah, wake up Norika? Michael says. But he means do not wake up. Stay put, don't go anywhere, do nothing. Great advice, because the ecology is more important than helping people. (Somehow I think the planes will be flying anyhow)

What facts exactly did Japan distort?

China said it will not use the metals as a “bargaining tool.”

Who is distorting the truth here?

What are these tantrums of 'now we talk to you and now we don't'?

It was predicted more than half a century ago that China would become the greatest threat to stability in the world. It seems this time has arrived. The sleeping tiger, the pouting tiger, the growling tiger and next . . . Figure it out.

The Japanese side has ruined the atmosphere for talks? And Hu said that? Who is this man? Is he a politician? Is he any kind of leader? I guess he pretends he is. He and his buddies wish the differences, conflicts to linger, to grow, to fester. For what purpose? What is the meaning of diplomacy to China? I don't get it.

To all the fellow passengers on our flight back to Tokyo Saturday... "SORRY!!" but for how much it sucked for you, it sucked for us 100x more!(our 10 month old twins screamed non-stop for the last 3hrs of the flight, it was the single worst experience we've ever had)

I feel sorry for you being sorry. These things happen, has happened to me and my wife, has been witnessed by us as frequent flyers. We only need to feel sorry for the babies.
