My close J male friend confided that his biggest fear of marrying J women is she may have affairs outside marriage..,I see his point!

People who know themselves tend to distrust others.

Money over people and country. That's TEPCO.

Not just TEPCO. There are 'dark forces' in play. Those that have huge interests in the proliferation of nuclear power. And yes. The people are being lied to constantly about the cost of solar, wind and other alternative sources of energy. And all the time the government is stalling. Failing to create working incentives to spread the use of mentioned sources.

I was told the passenger whose seat the lighter was found under denied any knowledge of it. Someone made some effort to get this mini fire started. Probably used some accelerant.

Osaki made some dumb comments. All he has in mind is making money and the end justifying the means.

    Only in Japan, huh?

    That I doubt.

I am not surprised. BMW and Mercedes Benz have been around a bit longer than Toyota. The latter has made huge strides forward, but the Lexus still lacks the aura and prestige that the high end German competitor models have.

    disgraced TV comedian Shinsuke Shimada

He is not even funny. He is a total jerk and a disgrace to comedy on stage.

With virtually no fossil fuels of its own, energy-hungry Japan is heavily dependent on the Middle East, with Iranian oil accounting for nearly 9% of its power needs in the first 11 months of last year.

Although I see nothing good coming from boycotting Iranian oil, I still haven't seen any signs of scaling back on energy waste in the form of excessive lighting in my city. With the cooperation of every citizen in Japan 9% could be saved without too much difficulty.

From Japan's point of view, though, it would be a good idea to buy as much oil as they can right now and store it. Oil is, as I understand it, denominated in dollars, and buying a lot at a time the yen is high and the dollar is low makes good sense.

Storage capacity is limited and a buying spree will only raise prices.

She is an idiot. Everyone with any brain knows that factory mileage tests are done on ideal conditions round a track at a steady kms.

She is not an idiot I think. Just pretending to be one. Pretending there is no internet with this info here http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/info.shtml

Pretending racing from light to light has no influence on fuel economy. She is an ex-lawyer. Ex or not, she must have learned something. Wants to take on Honda, a company that has surprised and shocked the USA automobile industry and taken a huge share of their market starting in the 1960s? Huh. Who does she work for now? Is this more Japan bashing? Honda should demand video proof of her driving perhaps?

We all know the USA is the land of opportunity. Suing companies and individuals is a national sport. Oh, the lady just bought her first car? Ex-lawyer, dumb enough to not know automobiles return different mileages depending on driving conditions and the weight of the foot/boot on the accelerator and brake pedal? Pathetic or suspicious? Or both? What is it really these consumers and lawyers are after?

3750? Wow. I like onsen too, But I haven't been to more than 100 or so in several decades! Good info in this article for those in the Kanto region. Unfortunately I live too far away.

Don't forget to go to Matsue near Izumo for a relaxing soak. Great outdoor, stone lined pools. Very hot and waterfalls to playin while relaxing. Many hotels and resorts offer great vacation deals. The sunrise and sunset are not to be missed! Go to the one that looks like a huge globe. The building is also a community center for music concerts.

Well, if you come that far from Tokyo you should sample a few spas in Asahi/Hamada/Shimane. The famous Mimata Onsen are located here. I am told these baths are the highest rated in all of Japan for the quality of the water. I've spent quite a few weekends there!

Not sure how true or authentic this is. But I was told that Osechi is also a way to give the wife, etc a break after the big cleaning and she won't need to cook for a few days.

I have to smile at this notion. To enjoy the break the wife first has to spend a few days preparing the 'osechi' and next it will be she who does the serving.

“The whole party, the entire army and all the people should possess a firm conviction that they will become human bulwarks and human shields in defending Kim Jong-Un unto death, and follow the great party for ever,”

Against who or what would the great successor need defending?

The North has set the goal of becoming a “powerful and prosperous” nation this year

This is still a nation that unfortunately cannot feed its people and the outlook for this year is bleak indeed. What or who will generate this prosperity? Not a word about that. Just more slogans and political meaningless rhetoric. The new 'leader' could not even be bothered to make a speech. That is a foreboding of what kind of leadership NC is in for. Sad.

China is now going through a phase other countries have experienced before. But I do think the gap between the haves and have-nots in China is too large and this will lead to social unrest.

Minimum wage $240 a month? Not strange in a country whose economy is gaining momentum. I remember Japan in the 1960s. University graduates got paid 20,000 yen in their first jobs. I got a job that paid 40,000 p/m.

the BBC reported Mr Noda had changed his original plan of increasing the consumption Tax

That's right. The original plan was to raise the tax to 8% by April 2013.

The government certainly needs more tax revenue, but I think spending cuts are lagging and that's what is making the planned consumption tax hike so unpopular.

Dr. Garcia is extremely lucky to have his prized possession, his daughter Karina, back with him. Whether the 9-year old girl is equally lucky is something we won't know for some time to come. To protect herself she will try to do anything to get people to like her in her new environment. What we do know is that the mother, who was locked away in prison as a criminal for 8 months has not been very lucky. Why? Because the law says so. An arbitrary set of rules written down in books meant to protect society. In the same category as thieves, robbers, murderers, you name it, the woman was shackled and robbed of her freedom. Robbed of the right to be with the girl she gave birth to. Why? Because the law says so. Who wrote these laws? You figure it out. Those on your side of the fence, ignoring all those on the other side. This comment is not meant to provoke anyone or doubt the need for laws to protect children or the right of parents to be with their children. However vindictive rules that punish a parent for trying to do the best, in his/her opinion for a child are medieval. Imagine also what this imprisonment did to not only the mother, but to the child. She will never forget that and when she grows older wonder why that had to happen. Will she be impressed that her father spent a fortune to have her by his side? Will she wonder how her grandparents in Japan felt? Will she ever understand what the right course of action would have been? If she turns out to have a strong mind she may survive the acrimonious divorce and resulting separation.

*To explain my interest: I know this European man who married a Japanese woman. They had a girl. Stayed together for 13 years until their divorce when the girl was 5. The man had gone to Europe to set up a new life for the three, but came back to Japan to be given custody of the girl in agreement with the mother. He never returned to Europe and it's been more than 30 years. This is to show separations can be solved amicably, but still there will always be pain. * I agree Japan needs to sign The Hague Treaty.
