Was going to mention throwing it into the food-processor for a bit. ;)

Brilliant. Next recycle your food processor.

It does not sound like the car jumped up on the sidewalk, does it?

There probably was no sidewalk. All traffic shares a clumsily, half-hearted attempt at a trail covered with a paper thin layer of asphalt, torn up numerous times every year.

Let's be honest. Why are Chinese upset? They let Europeans take over their country, and then that little country to the East (Japan) walked in and took over. This drove a deep nail into their pride. And what we all know, it wasn't China but Japan who first defeated a western army (Russia), giving hope to all the people of Asia. Japan never let itself be taken over by another country! That is what Chinese don't like. China still feels shame.

Ancient stale tale. Put it back where it came from.

They are just plain stupid. If they had brains they would be protesting to their own government to start apologizing to China for the atrocities of the first half of the 20th century

If someone had any brains he would stop the endless repetition of the same song. Cleo touched on it, what is conveniently forgotten, because being vile sounds so much better, is the billions in ODA packages for China.

I'd say the worst travellers are of no particular country, the question itself is flawed

The question is not flawed. It asks about your personal experience. You may have had good experiences with certain groups of tourists, someone else may not have.

Germans are the most arrogant. Humorless, and look like they want to kill you

I have shared that experience, but not with tourists I must say so I may be a bit off track. In most cases, excepting a few then I will never forget, the Germans are normal, nice, your average kind of man, people.

But, of course, this is about the tourists you encounter, in your own territory or abroad. It could be your own countrymen, a few of them, a group, that in some place, under some circumstances, create a lasting impression. Good or bad.

call attention to the fact, cause and effect, what happens to a society that fails to learn from history...

Funny you should say that. I wrecked my brain and then recalled a nation that fits the bill perfectly. And it isn't Japan.

And by the way, the issue at hand has nothing to do with past atrocities, because skeletons in the closet keep popping up everywhere and at any time in history. Let's not elaborate because it will paint a grim picture you don't want to contemplate.

The point here is that Japan is asking China for compensation instead of paying up for something it did not instigate. And rightly so. Chinaman illegally fishing in Japanese (administered, whether you like it or not) territory, refusing to obey commands by the coast guard, trying to defy authority, respond with aggression, resulting in damage to government property. Where is the proof you ask. I'll answer the question with another question. Did the Chinese authorities monitor the fisherman's mission with a satellite? Let's munch on that. Did Japan want to create an incident with big brother? More munching.

The Japanese government is loath to show the conclusive video evidence for the obvious reasons it will create more aversion in Japan and embarrassing the Chinese is not going to have any positive effects.

The Chinese and to a lesser degree the Korean and Thai tourists can easily be spotted in Europe by the racket they produce. The Chinese always win.

On the other hand Seto, 33, is dressed like obaasan in dark brown.

Seto would be hurt if she read this, you have no eye or fashion and do you actually know what 'obaasan' means?

"Uniqlo's products look like "MADE FOR THE MASSES" and that does not include me." Wow, you must be among the elite!

Oh, no, Sarge. I just don't go for clothes manufactured on a huge assembly line, all looking the same, like TV screens pouring out of Chinese factories by the millions.

    “MADE FOR ALL.”

Not sure this is a very appealing slogan. To me Uniqlo’s products look like "MADE FOR THE MASSES" and that does not include me.

Shooting, killing at university campuses, high schools seems an endless endemic problem in the US of A. The country is still, in the 21st century, the wild west.

Japan shouldn't ask China to pay for the damage. They should demand it.

Japan maintains a different level of civility.

Yeah, thank you for that Zhang. I don't doubt China is eager to start grabbing more territory, but I think the administration has a few other things to attend to that will distract it. Escalating labor unrest. Trying to create another cold war in this age won't rally young Chinese workers long enough against the foreign evil daring to capture a fisherman. They now want better livelihoods, more spendable income. That will be their first priority. Will the Chinese leaders assert their ruthless authority a la Tiannanmen Square or a la Mao Tse Tung? Not really understanding the Chinese mindset, I don't know. Will China pay compensation for the damage done to government property? Only if it has pride in being a developed country.

That loud noise we all just heard was the hysterical laughter from the Chinese foreign ministry in Beijing

Hysterical is the perfect term applying to more than the Chinese laughter.

a $500,000 fine could be imposed if human error was involved.

    Who imposes this fine?

a national symbol of China as well as of friendship between the two Asian neighbors.

The panda can never be a symbol of friendship if it is not backed up by friendly diplomacy.
