Generally, in the summer, the setting needs to be on highest, in our case No6, but come the cooler weather you need to defrost, remove any ice and turn the setting down. I now have it on No3.

Hahahah. Which century does your fridge date from?

more heat comes from the compression which is located at the back. But there should be a gap between the wall and fridge.

I'm sure you mean well, but as a recently retired refrigeration engineer I just smile. Check the user manual for the placement of your refrigerator. Most fridges produced in the last decades can be placed flush against the walls. The rear has spacers for ventilation. Filling to just 50% is sheer nonsense.

That said, refrigerators have continued to become more energy efficient over the years. However, the 620 liter Mitsubishi is too large for an average home, I think, and so is the price tag. But you can be sure the large appliance stores will offer them for 70 to 80% of that soon.

The choice of dress is inappropriate. She should wear kimono - and it does not have to be ridiculously expensive.

What do you think? Would you live in Udon Prefecture?

Sure. What's in a name anyway?

people get "mouthed" by sharks but three deaths is odd. Very rare that shark attacks end up with deaths. I am wondering if it is not the same one.

Norman Moore probably thinks so too. An animal acquires a taste for human flesh, so it should be exterminated. (Don't tell me the ocean belongs to the sharks!)

While I admire Mr Woodford for his courage, I think it's just a waste of time & energy. This is Japan.....

I don't know. Somewhere, sometime, someone is going to have second thoughts.

Someone in your area will go out night after night pushing an icepick into car tyres, or scratching car after car with a key or a nail.

Yes. But if you are lucky the jokers just steal your wheel caps.

The jokers are active on JT, too. Voting down everyone who has an opinion, valid or not, on any subject. Is the Higashimurayama pyromaniac among us?

Historically marriage wasn't about love. It still isn't here. I don't know.

I doubt the first two statements but not the last.

Everyone is free to have their own opinion, their own preference. Kobe beef is world famous as the real meat is only, well, available in Kobe. I also think it is somewhat overpriced and it is not a food you would want to have on your plate daily, but to first time visiting (carnivorous) tourists from overseas it might be a delight. Also it could be an alternative to the KB diet discussed recently - but with a price tag.

Actually 25% fat is not too bad if you love cheese. Average Gouda cheese contains 30 to 40% fat - it's great on your healthy rye bread in the morning, to keep the balance!

Whatever you say, whatever you think China will do with the technology, it's a huge market and that's what Toyota is aiming at, of course. Toyota will probably survive for a few more decades and the future? Après nous, le déluge.

It's not only the fringes of society that harbor all kinds of aberrated individuals. They can live right next door holding 9 to 5 jobs, walk the dog in the mornings, take out the trash and look perfectly normal, until they strike at night.

And these incidents happen everywhere in the world. Hard to catch these perps. In this instance less than one case a week. The criminal bides his/her time, plans carefully, chooses a target and strikes. Only round the clock vigilance or just luck could catch him/her. It's an area of 17 km square with 150k people, so no easy task.

My daughter lived in Higashimurayama for a few years. Glad she is no longer there.

The MO has probably not been made public to prevent copying?

SOME Japanese families may eat KFC on Christmas Eve, but It's not a tradition.

I remember the time, 1974, when KFC came to my city in western Japan. Our boss tried to impress us with a bucket of the, what shall I call it, greasy junk food that hardly tasted like the chicken I used to eat in my childhood. It was a revelation and a shock and a disappointment, but I could not tell the boss. I still wonder how people can eat that stuff.

A Christmas Eve tradition? No way.

Families started having more disposal income and the standard of living was rising and KFC just initiated a tradition that continues to this day.

Total self inspired pure nonsense. No families in my community nor my friends' communities have a habit, much less a tradition to eat this food on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

Sorry Zichi but I really do not understand your comment so maybe I thumbed you down too.

You could thumb him back up again. That being said, it looks like (some) posters play around with the good/bad buttons, having no clue what they are doing, and/or are just doing it to entertain themselves, or just being bearish?

the House Committee passed a bill that criminalizes free speech and applies US 'drug war' policies across entire world

OT, but this is extremely hypocritical and reflects badly on a nation so proud of its [alleged] democracy and freedom of speech.

The only way Japan can compete with agricultural products in Asia is to produce high quality rice, fruit and vegetables and export them to countries like China and Russia, targeting the rapidly increasing nouveau riche population.

    Tranquilizer darts.

No, not a good idea. Bears hunting for food before hibernation are extremely dangerous. The darts do not have an instant effect and the animal goes berserk.

On the other hand, if it comes down to resilient technology or power efficient motors - well that's what Suzuki expected from the deal. However, these things are traded only between the companies that are really part of the family - 100%, not 20%.

If, and only if, the terms of the agreement were 1) for VW to get access to the Indian market through the Suzuki network, and 2) get the know-how on producing and distributing small vehicles on the Indian continent, and 3) for Suzuki to get access to specified or unspecified technology and/or parts from VW, like diesel engines - and then VW withholding their know-how and not supplying engines, there would be a breach of contract on the side of the powerful but crafty VW group.

The big guys always win? Wrong. VW denied Suzuki requested their engines? Probably true. VW denied the request for engines? True. VW were not about to supply a 20% partner with their fiercely protected technology while their partner were certainly not ready to offer their marketing and production know-how on an unequal basis. And don't get excited, this is all my personal opinion.
