It would seem The Munya Times has inside information about the contract between VW and Suzuki and spices his/her opinions with juicy adverbs. But to cover his/her tracks repeats the phrase 'That's why I always I say , the outcome is unpredictable.'

A famous reporter once said, Quote: The irony of the Information Age is that it has given new respectability to uninformed opinion. Unquote.

With all due respect I would be interested in knowing the sources forming the core of TMT's assertions, concerning VW's and Suzuki's small car technology and success in their inroads in world markets. Suzuki's 'insufficient' technology, Suzuki being naive and blindly violent (??), Suzuki and VW shutting doors, offensive remarks directed at Osamu Suzuki, blackmailing and threatening VW (give me a break), Suzuki's dirty business manner (tut-tut), agreement violations, and . . . Wow, some story, some fiction.

Believing in a cause is one thing, writing pure nonsense another. Please substantiate your assertions or indicate that everything is a deduction from your own personal observations or biases.

Tobacco tax hikes should be used to pay for the health costs of smoking and for everyone else to get their clothes and hair washed every time they go out.

The hikes WILL be used for the health costs of smoking, although perhaps indirecltly. The extra revenue leaves more money to fund other disasters. Concerning washing hair and clothes, I'd advise staying away from smokers' hot spots. I decided that 20 or so years ago.

Coffee and tea do not pose a risk to bystanders like tobacco does. Neither does alcohol.

Legislation that benefits the whole country is torpedoed by an extremely shortsighted and uncooperative LDP. What a shame. I hope many (non smokers and addicts alike) will remember this.

presto - I only have a passing interest in these things, but the Tenarife disaster was the sole responsibility of the KLM pilot for ignoring instructions cause he was an arrogant a**hole and was tired of waiting. His own co-pilot tried (in vain) to stop him.

Although you assert you have only a passing interest you seem to have made up your mind about what happened. News of the crash scared the hell out of me as I had just flown to Japan from the Netherlands with KLM at the time. Many reports have been written about the crash and what led up to them. The disaster certainly was not the sole responsibility of the captain. You would not draw that conclusion if you had had access to the full reports or had done a little more reading up.

if Suzuki is such a tiny crap, why is the mammoth VW obsessed with it so much ?

VW wants access to the India small car market. And they're not about to trade technology as purportedly promised.

So far Suzuki has been pretty successful worldwide for a 'typical small minded, small one-man dominated company mentality'. But some people have a habit of making up their mind before knowing the facts. If VW wish to do a hostile take over they will have to lay their hands on a lot more shares. Without knowing the exact terms of the agreement between Suzuki and VW it's hard to predict how the conflict will end.

The Tenerife Air Disaster in 1977 is the deadliest to go on record and was (partly?) caused by communication problems. A near miss like this is a very serious incident.

A flexible tiered retirement age plan could be an idea. Create the possibilities for workers to choose an age, from e.g. 60 / 65 / 68 / 70. Simply tailor the amounts paid out to the amounts paid into the system. Wanna retire at an early age? OK, fine, at a reduced pension. Whatever the government in planning, it will take many years before any changes will go into effect.

Uniqlo’s operator is aiming to open between 200 and 300 stores per year worldwide to boost its global presence and compete with bigger rivals such as clothing giant Gap and Spain’s Zara.

They'll have to change their name and/or their policy because nothing unique will remain.

An excellent deal for both sides. Unfortunately the price tag of 100,000 dollars places the vehicle just beyond my reach :-)

I hope this visit will do some damage control.

America never even admitted to those war crimes, let alone paying compensation to victims. Guess it was a different sort of world then?

I remember a case where a nation apologized for a war that happened 400 years ago.

Mazda, Toyo Kogyo, is on record for the first and only manufacturer to mass produce Wankel (Rotary) engine vehicles. German NSU vehicles were unreliable and flopped. Mazda Rotary cars were done in by sharply rising fuel prices in the mid 1970s, but now there still is this exciting RX-8. It's good to see they are taking a lead again in automobile production.

Agreed, though he did more than most in that amount of time.

    Exactly my thoughts.

Hmm, [scratches head], this concerns debris from Iwate and Miyagi. I didn't read anything about Fukushima. 22 million tons. Quite a heap, and reading all the expert opinions here, all debris is contaminated? [still scratching head]

Prosecutors have said they will appeal the decision to Italy’s highest criminal court after receiving the reasoning behind the acquittals, due within 90 days.

    From the BBC:

The prosecution, which maintains Miss Kercher was killed in a brutal sex game which went wrong, is to appeal to Italy's highest court over the acquittals.

The prosecution will have to come up with some new, clear cut evidence. If not they won't get anywhere. Whatever they concoct, Knox will never return to Italy. And whatever attention the Knox family has been getting in the media, this is totally unrelated to Amanda being guilty or not guilty.

“It has been a chaotic week with a lot of empty shelves. People have been filling their freezers,” Christian Jensen of an independent local Copenhagen supermarket told AFP.

The panicked hoarders. Reminds me of the queue at the filling stations when the fuel prices go up 2 yen per liter. People save 60 to 100 yen! How much butter can you store in an average freezer? Saved a few $$$? Wow, it must have been worth the energy spent. (sarcasm - sorry)
