I have just one question, What kind of idiotic financial company pays "retention bonuses" in these times. Let them walk and try to find another job. Nobody is hiring, it is not like headhunters are lined up to hire banking executives.

I would never, buy one of these. Apple has chipped the headphones, only crappy apple headphones will work and it cannot be used in cars because of the chip problem. Anyway, it is too small for me. I go through headphones like mad; three months is a long time for me. If Apple uses chipped headphones in the next generation of bigger ipods I will not buy one when my current classic craps out.

iraira Take a pill friend. Some of us are well invested in this country and want to make things better. Sorry, it is not perfect, nowhere is, but that doesn't mean people should just give up and roll over like a dog. There are so many problems with the university system in Japan, I don't know where to start.

Question, it is impossible to give you a straight answer to help you form an opinion as it seems you have already formed an opinion. Let me pose a question to you. Do you trust the insurance companies to act in the best interest of policy holders or stock holders?
I'll attempt to answer that; no.

The good thing about having the government "run" health care is that the bums can be thrown out of office by the policy holders. State run public health insurance offers the best of both worlds; competition and accountability. The 50 states could compete in providing better service and lower costs and the state legislators that did not could be fired by the policy holders, i.e. voters. The hospitals should be left private and maximum no-fault malpractice levels set. V.A. hospitals should be closed and patients free to take their business to any private hospital.

I have no idea what everyone is on about. I must live in the best school area in the entire country. Of course there is bullying but kids around here do tell their parents and teachers and action is taken to sort it out. "We", well my wife actually, is president of the PTA so we hear everything, and I can't recall a bullying incident that was kept from parents or left to fester. Crikey, I wish we didn't hear half the stuff. There are enough good kids around that at least one of them will tell their mother about a kid getting bullied and then it lands in our laps. Perhaps part of it is that I am not Japanese so people feel they can tell me anything but I really don't want to know who is eating eating sushi to celebrate their daughter getting their period or the mess some junior high boy's mother must clean up in the morning or who is going to counseling. Yes, believe it or not many students do go for professional help. There are several "heart" clinics around here and there is no shortage of customers.

I would tend to agree with VOR in that this is a promise not met. It also seems to be contrary to the wished of most Americans. I am left to wonder if the generals are calling the shots and not the commander in chief. Has a coup occurred?

Actually, I think Paris is rather clever. She is rather plain looking but manages to make a lot of money. I, myself, am better looking but haven't figured out a way to sell clothes off of my face. I would hazard a guess that she her IQ is triple that of her fans.

The Canadian health care system is broken and probably the problem is the same fundamental one the US has; Canadians are fat and unhealthy. If people want to fix the health care system they should fix their health by dropping 10-30 kilograms. Canadians are, to be polite "fat" and as long as they are obese the line ups will just continue to grow.
On Canadians going to the US for treatment that old "scare tactic" has been refuted so many times I wonder if Americans that drag it out understand that there are only 30 million people up north. It is simple demographics, specialists settle where demand is higher and patients commute to them. Yes people from Toronto go down to New York for treatment because that is where the specialist lives. Americans travel to the same specialists from across the country. It would not be unusual for an American living in North Dakota to travel to seek health care but that is not an indictment of the entire system.

I wonder which Western country will be first to bite the bullet and make the boomers work an extra 5 years. The boomers are now outnumber by younger voters and people will not stand to pay taxes so boomers can spend six months a year in Mexico. The boomers can all live in a tent and eat dogfood before I will pay taxes to support their cushy lifestyles.
If they worked an extra 5 years it would not only increase revenue, and cut down on entitlements but probably keep them healthy in body and mind.

This sounds crazy "going to jail for insulting a king" but it is no different than anti-free speech "hate speech" legislation in "advanced" Western countries. "Hate speech" is ill defined but includes speech intended to degrade a social class. Yes, the rich are a social class. Harry Nicolaides had better avoid traveling to Canada lest the Canadian human rights commission gets their hooks into him.

Peacekeeping requires a bit of muscle sometimes, it is good that Canada is in Afghanistan, the forces needed sharpening up. Obama should have asked for another couple thousand troops from Canada; better than giving the young people poggy to sit at home.
