..and now the end is near..... As bad as all of these bail outs have been, the worst is coming soon. Somebody in the house tacked on a "buy American steel" line to Obama's big stimulous package. If it passes as is, expect Europe, Japan, UK and Canada to do likewise and world trade will come to a halt and we will all be out of work.

I would think that Bridgestone would be doing better now than when oil was over $140 a barrel. There was a huge shortage of winter tires in Canada in December because of a new law. Bridgestone management must have been asleep at the wheel not have foreseen the huge demand for winter tires in Quebec because the law was past some time before it became law.

If you are an American taxpayer and upset about this because "your taxes" pay for something you are morally opposed to then why did "liberals" get stuck for paying for a war in Iraq that they were morally opposed to. Woman have been inducing abortions long before the time of Christ and I don't think he had any comment on it. There are numerous natural remedies that induce abortions that are well known. My great grandmother's generation that were getting pregnant during the roaring 20's knew all about ergot tea.

"According to the Pentagon at least 18 former Guantanamo detainees have “returned to the fight” and another 43 are suspected of resuming terrorist activities." This right wing claim has been discredited. Why repeat erroneous information?

It would be unconstitutional to impose that gag order in the US so it is only logical to remove it.

I am hopeful. Perhaps I have been a critic of the former administration but am reserving opinion on this one to see if it lives up the expectations. My big brother, the US, that I have often admired in the past may win my admiration again.

Collective punishment is part of the education system in Japan and it leads to bullying. If one player on a team is busted for trying a five finger discount at 7/11 the entire team is punished. Incredible! The teacher is likely to disband the entire team or make them all run another 10 kms because one kid did something. Nobody wants to get punished for something they didn't do so the kids at school will use force against anyone they think might do something that could result in collective punishment. Last year, my daughter's teacher tried to force all the students to go to school during summer vacation because a handfull had not finished some kind of report. My wife and I are "leaders" in the PTA and the PTA soon quashed that idea. Fine, punish the ones that don't do their work but punishing the "good" kids will only bring more problems.

Sorry jack but a country that's sole purpose is to protect and promote only 1 religion can never be thought of as secular. Surely, you must be joking?

I agree faderkinta however the bowels of religion trap people into misery. Religion gives people to "power" to withstand unbelievable torture. One would think that after seeing their friends fed to the lions, that the Christians would have started worshiping Juno again or that after hundreds of years of persecution Jews would have accepted Christ. If anything, I think miserable conditions make religious beliefs stronger which may have a tendency to create more misery. So, I have the feeling that the destruction of Gaza will only breed more Islamists.

Why is allowing Palestinians to return rejected out of hand? Law abiding people that want to live in peace should certainly be welcomed by any country. Israel accepts a lot of immigrants so why not just let the Palestinians go home and live in peace? Give full Israeli citizenship to the Palestinians that want to return. If the reason for not allowing someone to "immigrate" is based on race or religion, that is something I cannot support. Being a father of 3 half cast children, I cannot in any way support a government that discriminates based on religion or race. It is no different than Japan not allowing citizenship to my children or only allowing "white" people to come here and barring "black" people.

Disagree with your one sided opinion. There are a large number of Israeli extremists that need to give up their biblical illusions of a "promised land." Forcing down 1 side does not solve the problem, it only breeds resentment. Sorry to say but there are some Palestinians that will never accept Israel as long as they don't have justice. They will probably die a violent death but they will be replaced. I'm sure you think that is fine but it still leaves the problem unresolved.
I have no solution but as long as some extremist Israelis refuse to accept that they can't push out everyone in the Gaza strip and West bank and as long as Palestinian extremists dream of pushing out all the Jews it will just continue on. Do you believe that the ultra-orthodox Israeli Jews or extremist Christians that are waiting for Christ will accept that a "two-state" solution? I don't. Likewise I don't believe the extremist Palestinians will accept a "two-state" solution. So wiping out the extremist Palestinians does not solve the problem, that is only one side of the same ugly coin. Both sides must be addressed. Abbas is "playing nice" and yet the settlements continue to expand. What is your master plan for rolling back the settlements, and when is an American leader going to put the screws to Israel for the settlers? May I suggest declaring the settler organizations to be terrorist groups on a par with Hamas.

I disagree Vor. I think the only time it will be resolved is when Palestinians are given justice. Democracy is nice, I like it, food and shelter are nice too but as long as there is a sense of injustice it will not be resolved. A "two-state" solution does nothing to offer justice. Justice may involve generous cash payments of $1 million to the Palestinians that were forced off their land and are stuck living in refugee camps. Unless the Palestinian people that are still holding on to the keys to the front doors of their old homes that were stolen the sense of injustice will continue. The right of return or at least generous compensation is the sticking point.

Egypt is well paid to keep it's border closed. I'm sure enough of the billions the US sends to Egypt finds its way into the right pockets to make sure the border stays closed.

Oh, I see we only count the "good" schools Israel blows up. Face it likeitis, the IDF is as bad as Hamas. Hamas uses human shields, Hamas uses human shields!!! But we will ignore the IDF using human shields in the West Bank. There are no good guys in white hats here, they are all guilty of something.
