JohnBecker As a photographer you should know that designs are intellectual property and that includes fashion and architecture. If your model is wearing clothes you should be paying royalties to the designer. Same with buildings, the design is intellectual property, you cannot publish images of a building without the architects permission and if you get any money you must pay royalties. I don't know what you photograph but even the person that designed the glasses the model is wearing should be paid by you if you sell a picture. Sell a picture of a bridge; pay up, take a picture of a pretty girl in an onsen; pay up, take a picture of anything that you did not design; pay up. Why? Because if you are selling images of the Tokyo Tower you are stealing money out of the pocket of the design owner that is trying to survive by selling postcards. And those bosai trees you photograph are intellectual property as well.

I can't remember; I may have been critical of Bush in the past but I believe he has made a wise move here.

The short sellers are going to make a lot more money today than was on the table. Did the senate vote down the bailout to help their short selling campaign contributors?

Skip..I know the answer. Believe it or not, ironically, it is partly because of corruption. Before 1912(?) senators were elected by state legislators, not by the general population. Basically the state governor chose the senator. He, and they were all men, could manipulate the state legislative body to elect the person he chose or the minority party in the state legislature could delay any vote leaving some senate seats vacant for years at a time. Local industry leaders used their financial power to force a candidate on the state or block a legislative vote. The entire senate was becoming a corrupt den of thieves that did the bidding of big business. The 17th amendment changed the election of senators to a popular vote by the people. It also gave the state legislatures the power to either appoint a senator to a vacant seat or to authorize that responsibility to the state governor. In Illinois, according to the 17th amendment and state law the governor has the right and obligation to appoint somebody to the senate until an election is held. The 17th amendment was able to pass the senate because of the unusually large number of senators that were just beginning their tern and did not have to face the puplic for 6 years.

thepro Seniors get a discount too. The difference between now and the old days is that in the old days there were not that many old people kicking about so most of the time a young person could sit and it was not so burdensome to give up your seat to an old person because it didn't happen every day. There are too many "sempais" in Japan and not enough "kohais." The old people get upset because there demands for getting served by "kohais" cannot possible be met by the small number of young people and the young people are upset because there are too many "sempais" telling them what to do and so many demands that they simply cannot satisfy them all. Young people in Japan are saying "bugger you" to the never ending demands by all of the "sempais" and the old people are sending carefully crafted hand written letters to elected office holders to complain about not getting every demand made.

To be honest, I really don't think there is a big problem with lack of morals in the youth of Japan at all and I am satisfied with the "morals", human rights, drug and sex education my children are getting in public school. I think this is just a case of the older generation being bitter and blaming everything on the youth of Japan.
If there are only two "silver" seats on the train and 50 retirees elbowing to get at them they all shoot daggers out of their eyes at the poor high school students sitting in their own seats. Hey, young people paid the fare and have just as much right to sit down as the herds of old people do. What the old people don't realize is that that one young person on the train has had a hard day of work trying to get enough money to pay the taxes to support all the old people that constantly slam him or her.

Yes, i think herefornow has the complete opposite meaning of "arafo." It is for woman in their 40s that have no family, no fertility, a crappy job and have nothing to look forward to besides eating out with their loser friends at the newest restaurant on their only day off.

I am adamantly against opposed to the blanket use of GM crops but not because of human health issues. Glyphosate tolerant GMO crops destroy the ecosystem. Farmers spray Glyphosate gratuitously, confident that their crops will not be harmed and that there will be very few if any weeds that escape and the "weed" population will crash. For example the "weed" American Dragonhead is already endangered in New York. It is actually a native plant, not a weed. If the use of herbicides associated with GMO crops results in the extinction of native plants like American Dragonhead, then the food chain, from aphids and beetles that feed on American Dragonhead up to the birds that feed on those beetles will become extinct.

Increased yields in rich countries like the US and EU will bankrupt farmers in third world countries where there are no subsidies and they don't have access to the capital needed for modern agribusiness.

Youdontknow I didn't say he was not successful in converting people, but he was not popular with the local religious leaders. He went to visit the emperor and was rejected, sent packing out of that country and back to Yamaguchi. If one or two local daimyos were attracted to christianity by St Francis Xavier it was a political ploy to counter the rising treat of Shin Buddhism which united farmers, endangered the position of the daimyo, and centralized power in Osaka. It is no coincidence that St Francis Xavier spent most of his time in Kagoshima and Yamaguchi as those two areas were always rebellious and did not desire to fall under central control. The daimyo may have welcomed the chance of converting his people to a religion not controlled by the centralized monks but St Francis Xavier was certainly not welcomed by the monks when they figured out what he was up to.

St Francis Xavier was warmly greeted by monks when he came to Japan because he spoke no Japanese and since he had come via India they thought he was teaching about Buddhism. Once St Francis Xavier had learned Japanese and began preaching in Japanese the monks realized he was teaching another religion and they tossed him out of the country.
Judging by the number of people today, in Japan, that are forced to endure hot springs, I conclude that the persecution continues.

I don't have to offer any evidence, all I have to do is believe but try google and you will be enlightened.
Christians hop up and down and get all upset at agnostics but they "respect" other religions. If you are a christian and you really believe it, how can you have any respect for anyone following another religion because, by default, you believe they are completely wrong and doomed to go to hell.
It is complete intellectual dishonesty.

The first "christian" to come to Japan was Jesus who had a Japanese wife and is buried in Herai Village in Aomori. I believe that and if you don't respect me you are ignorant and unintelligent.

And don't get me wrong. The Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) is full of nutters and worthy of being wiped out. The failure is that the Bush, CIA backed Somali warlords are just as nutty. The Bush backed nutter warlords are probably the pirates.

Alphaape I suggest to do a bit of research. Bush sent at least 100 American service personnel and millions of dollars to Ethiopia to get the Ethiopian proxies to topple the Somali muslims, not to mention direct American strikes against Islamic fundamentalists in Somalia. It failed and the entire country is worse off then ever.

Oh the irony! The Islamic fundamentalists had the pirates under control but when they were toppled the pirates swung into action. This is just another Bush (right wing) failure. The pirates still have that ship full of tanks to defend themselves.

Japanese auto makers are likely to get into some trouble as well; nobody is buying cars. Japan is likely to help out its industry so they can crush the competition when economies pick up. America's industrial policy, if there is one, is based on defence. Japan's industrial policy is based on economic survival.
