Democrats aren't picky, as long as it's a democrat they'll show up to vote. Republicans are very finiky and if he's not the exact candidate they will vote in their heart for him, but won't show up at the ballot box. This is why Obama will win by about 5%. There are too many that won't vote for a mormon, a rich guy, a good looking guy, a white guy with a blonde haired wife.. many reasons, they won't vote for Romney even though they may despise Obama's policies. In my old job we had 16 people and only two supported Obama, and they voted for him, the other 14 supported McCain but I found out that I was the only one who actually voted for him, the rest were just well wishers because they actually were hoping for another republican to win the parties nomination. It'll repeat itself this year as well.

Obama 2012 because republicans are too stupid to vote unless the candidate is the perfect one.

I want free stuff.. I'm voting for Obama! I don't care what the unemployment rate is or the deficit or if he hates whites deep down and their society. He's got my vote!

Jackinoff.. the special law is eminent domain. Cannot seize land in Japan for military purposes, only civilian. A discriminatory act was passed by the Hashimoto regime to try to bypass this constitutional law, however it only applies to Okinawa prefecture, which makes the special measures act unconstitutional because it goes against the constitutions law on anti discrimination.

I think he would have ran the marathon anyway due to his physical conditioning that was necessary just to run it. I think he was a runner and may have ran marathons before. I doubt very much he just up and ran a marathon to show that "he doesn't give up"...

China could never win a war with Japan, it takes airlift and seapower.. then have neither. It is not that Japan is powerful, but it is easy to sink ships that you see coming toward you from 1500 miles away. The ocean makes it very very difficult to just invade and take over. It is actually rediculous to talk about because Japan and China are on friendly terms and need each other for trade.. a war is just old old talk from old men who can't see change when it is right in their face.

I guess that other mayor (Iha) blew a lot of money going back and forth to the US along with his entorage without getting results, then he ran for Governor of Okinawa and lost. Maybe the Ginowan citizens elected the younger guy thinking he would be around longer to fight to get rid of that base which is going to happen anyway.

This is a win for the US, as this guy is suppose to be more moderate but campaigned hard against Futemna.. now he will probably change colors.

But but.. I thought they thought highly of US troops when they helped out after the tidal wave. Oh! That was as long as they stayed in Okinawa.

I'm simply saying that nothing is free, there are expectations at minimum. I dont' agree with the heavy presence or Futemna MCAS in its current or Henoko location and pointed out that there was a link in Henoko and "winning hearts and minds" and the Okinawans exploited that in their news paper editorials. No different than the policy of allowing Okinawan mothers to bring their kids on base to trick or treat and get candy.. win their hearts and minds when they're still young and innocent.

    voiceofokinawa:

If you say there was no political motivation behind Operation Tomodachi, I will take your word because you were directly involved in it. But I remember a high ranking U.S. military officer telling immediately after the relief operations that this would smoothen the way for the Futenma issue to be solved as the U.S. favors -- that is, Futenma would be relocated to Henoko as bilaterally agreed upon.

I agree and cannot understand how anyone could not see this as common sense. The Okinawans were onto it from the start. I'm not saying that the US would have done anything different if there were no bases in Okinawa.. they would have, but this gave a reason to try to win over public opinion (win hearts and minds). Again, we'd have done it anyway, but this was a chance to use Futenma and pit the opinion of the mainlanders against the Okinawans. Hey, they're not so bad (as long as they are not in my back yard).

Yuri, have you ever heard of "winning hearts and minds"? Nothing is free. In fact it cost the US about 80 million dollars in the effort. Did Japan who owns almost a trillion in US debt subtract that amount? No.. they didn't.

For Okinawans to complain about this, makes both America and Japan (GOJ) think the Okinawans actually want the US military there so they can complain about them and guilt the GOJ into giving them money to tolertate the military.

Yuri.. I never said anything about the "spoils of war".. I am saying if the Americans and Japanese (GOJ) want to move the marines out of Okinawa.. the Okinawans have no say in the matter. If though, they want to move troops INTO Okinawa, then they should have a very big say about it.

Okinawa really has no say in moving the marines to Guam.. none at all. The sooner they move out, the less foreign occupation the Okinawans will have to deal with. A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush.
