First, I dont understand the drist of this article. Is it talking about the status of the new building which is to replace the Twin Towers, or is is talking about the plans to build a mosque there, or both? Its confusing.
Of course, the new building will be a landmark. Regarding the building of a mosque and Islamic centre on the same site, though, 100% opposed to that. It would be unthinkable, and an utter abomination to buid abything Islamic in that area, which was destroyed by evil Islamic extremists on 9/11. I hope Americans in their millions will rise up and oppose these plans. I have no doubt they will, though probably their current President will support the plans, given his pedigree and recent pathetic overtures towards Muslims and their "contributions" (sic) to the history of America.

In civilised countries around the world, dolphins are loved and protected. Alas, not so in Japan. I agree with the "Cove" star - it shows Japanese cruelty.

Totally agree with my2sense This picture shows the tragedy of Japan. Trying to glamourise the past and hide the truth from the younger generations. Never facing up to the truth about their terrible past. GThey look on themselves as "victims" and not the aggressors. Yasukuni should be closed and redeveloped. A Shrine of Hate.

Japan is already facing destruction, for many reasons. Raising the Consumption Tax to 10% will just be the final nail in the coffin.

I have seen some of this latest violent and pornographic trash to emanate from America, on Youtube. The word "depraved" doesnt even begin to describe it. There is enough sick violence going around via video games, without this brain-imploding rubbish.
As for the "experts" quoted above - what do they know about anything, except for how to make money by appearing "trendy?"

I dont think the message of Genesis is the slightest bit allegorical. It is a historical record of what happened when puny mankind reached out arrogantly to the skies and built the first skyscraper. This article made interesting reading. Judging by the way Japan is going at present, Sky tree or no Sky Tree, I think Japan is headed for a mighty fall.

Singapore Airlines is the best airline in the world, without question. A close runner-up is Thai International. None of the European or American airlines come even close.

The term "hafu" as used in Japan is sick, and racist.

By the way, I think the real "racists" are the guys holding the picture of Pete Bethune, above!

I think this "sentence" was done for political expediency purposes. Of course, he went over the top in his attempts to highlight and obstruct the Japanese whaling activities, but a lot of people around the world support some sort of action being taken against the whaling carried out by Japan and other countries. I bet part of the reason for this is all the negative publicity, worldwide, against Japan`s activities with regard to whaling and also the recent documentary film, The Cove. I wonder have any of you seen the South Park episode on Youtube about Japanese attacking Dolphins?

Thjis is good news, and I hope it eventually leads to the abandonment of Narita. Narita is just too remote from Tokyo, and also Saitama. The train services between Narita and Tokyo suck, and I dont think the new one will fare much better. When you arrive back after a long flight from Europe in the early morning, its ages before the fats train sefvices start up, and they are too few and far between. Narita is not a 24 hour airport, too, and the ATMS (if you manage to find one) are also not 24 hours. Its called an "International" airport, but there is nothing international about either it, nor Japan in general. Haneda is mor convenient to use, for a start, and already is a much superior airport to the awful Narita, stuck out in the boonies of Chiba.

The Japanese never have, and never will, give basic human rights like voting, to foreign residents of their country. Ive been here for several decades, and I can see this country slowly closing its doors to the outside world again. History repeating itself. They dont need us, and dont want us. Over 60% say they dont want to have anything to do with foreigners. We get the message, loud and clear.
I cant see this ever being passed in Japan, because the country is moving backwards, not forwards, with each passing day. The DPJ were full of promises and good intentions before they got elected, but they have gone the way of all ;politicians - they have backtracked on their election promises. They will do son on this issue, too, because there simple isw no "consensus" on this issue, and never will be. Japan never changes.

ilclub76 You seem to be having difficulties reading English. This report says that Sarah Palin is innocent of any misdemeanor. Of course, you being a typical "tolerant" liberal, refer to her as "scum."
Sarah Palin will be a great President, next time around. Maybe as soon as 2 years down the line now that the American people are slowly realising exactly the kind of person they have elected to the White House.

The IWC is a joke. It will be interesting to see how many little countries the Japanese can successfully bribe this time to get the vote them want.

Well, despite the silence about the "religion" in question here, I think we are all intelligent enough to read between the lines to know who which one is being discussed here. However, that being said, I would support their right to prayer whenever they feel the need. Its a basic human right - but then, Japan is not known for its respect for basic huiman rights, is it?

Why am I not surprised by this story? It is nothing short of disgusting, and I thought things had changed with the arrival of the DPJ as the ruling party. Obviously, nothing every changes in dear old Nippon. The Japanese bureaucrats seem to think they can bribe anyone to do anything, in order to gain some advantage for Japan. Really sickening.
