The USA was going to adopt metric, I think in 1982 or sometime around then. I remember from the 4th - 6th grade we were learning it.

Then the jackass became president, slashed the education budget so he could build penis enhancements... er, missiles, and announced that the metric system would cost USA manufacturers too much money to convert over.

Bush 1 just wanted us to read his lips. (?)

There were overtures to change during the Clinton years but his penis got in the way as well, for other reasons.

Junior Bush was too stupid to even understand the system and now we have Obama who wants to redesign the wheel (education).

Why don't we have it? Trouble at the top tier.

Here we go again... the never ending revolving door. Koizumi- Abe- Fukuda- Aso- Hatoyama- Kan- ?

Is it a pipe dream to wish for a politician with enough Chutzpah to ignore the meaningless media muppets in Japan and start acting like a real leader?

I have been to 3rd world countries where women use little or no make up

Well duh, they cannot afford it and they don't live in a society that expects it.

Who comes up with these lame questions anyway?

How many tasteless(?) jokes for new events can we come up with? I suggest these 2:

    Tsunami surfing

Hazmat suit relay race with radioactive batons

Time to start gathering up email addresses and contacts of IOC members and their staffs. Going to have to resend a whole bunch of stuff that I sent years ago slamming S.I. for his xenophobia then just wait for him to open his big dumb mouth again. This should be fun.

Interesting how all the posts here say the same thing but we all got "thumbs down" reactions. I even got 2... woo-hoo I'm winning! Except tkoind2??? The J-trolls must be out.

As long as Shintaro "I hate foreigners" Ishihara, or one of his hand-picked cronies for that matter, leads Tokyo, the foreign community will do exactly what we did for the 2016 bid: bombard the IOC with every article, speech, and/or piece of evidence that illustrates that mans absolute contempt for foreigners.

I'd love to see the games in Japan, but not with that fool taking credit.

Typical xenophobic response from a man who probably wears a broken cross on his arm when he's not filling his students heads with nationalistic jingoism.

Interesting how every few years we hear about how the lost tribes popped up in yet another place. How many were there? Seven? Damn, they were busy little beavers weren't they? There was a debunked book printed a few years back talking about how they were in the Amazon. It's simply amazing to me how religion, Christianity and Judaism specifically are continually trying to justify themselves by spouting historical inaccuracies in a vain attempt to illustrate their importance in cultures with whom they have little or no influence. Blah, it's all a bunch of religious propaganda.

Here's a scoop that I hope JT will pick up on. I happen to know a journalist in the Yamanashi area and they said that the dude was marrying the sister of his wife. Now that's keeping it in the family. Imagine what dinner will be like tonight....

So who is this wannabe, whose talent has more to do with who he knows and not what he knows, and why is he sporting a previously used band name? If memory serves there was a LA punk band in the late 70's early 80's that called themselves "X", fronted by Exene with John Doe on guitar, but I can't remember the other members. What's next, the "Beatles" with Jonu Renin, Palu Mac, Joju Hayshin, and Lingo?

Why does JT continue to put this drivel on the site? "those who don't hold the spirit...." sounds like a watered down Ishihara rap on foreigners... again.

WAKE UP FAT BOYS OF SWA, your sport has gone international, and without the interest of foreigners, sumo would in all likelihood die in the next decade. The last couple basho's I went to looked like a gathering of westerners anyway, at least so far as the crowd went. The vast majority of Japanese spectators were old geezers and their paid for dates.

Actually I think this cow/bull painting thing started in Chicago, then NYC (Wall Street/Bull market) jumped on it. Now it's in Japan???? Uh.... why?

buddha4brains, um.... did I mention anything about America should have won?

    Ummmm.... No, you didn't.

    Oh good thanks.

Failed to motivate???? What? Did they need 300,000 yen yakiniku? Give me a break, it's the Olympics, how much more motivation do you need?

Post-mortem on why they lost??? Sounds like typical whining and excuse making to me: Darvish did this and Hoshino did that, and... and... and you blew it J-baseball, get over it, move on.

Oh yeah, and buddha4brains I'm not an Amerophile. Just tired of hearing all the excuses. Japan should relish their victorious athletes not dwell on what might have been.

Anyone of any quality in Japan goes to the MLB. MLB players do not make a habit of playing for J-baseball. The only foreigners that are playing in Japan, sorry to say, couldn't make it in Triple-AAA back in the states.

As far as Castro goes, his personal feelings were reported in the Japan Times the day before the championships, also I believe I read the same article in the New York Times, and I'm almost positive that's where I read the follow up on his disappointment towards the silver. It was not very long or extensive. The main point being that as he felt removing baseball was a western (where exactly do you think you live Fidel? I guess he meant capitalist or European.), anti-Cuban decision, the Cuban team must win the final gold to preserve it's dominance in the sport.

Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic. The subject is Japan's Olympic baseball team.

Waaaahhhhhhhh!!!! We lost, now let's make excuses.

I've got news for J-baseball fans. If you think Japan actually won the World Baseball Championships, guess again. Remember, the Cubans were not going to get visas to enter the US. Do you really think the Americans were going to allow the Cubans in AND say it was OK for them to win? NOT!!!!

Also, if you read the news at the time, Fidel took the loss in stride because he knew what the deal was. After taking home the silver this year, he was, shall we say, P'd-off.

J-baseball = over rated. You don't see it in the states, but you sure get to see MLB. Hell even when Matsui wasn't playing you still get Yankee games.

So get over it Japan. Your team blows.

In just about any other civilized society, they would call you a whore, slut, harlot, or prostitute. Me, I'll call you a sleazebag. And Tokyo wonders why the WHO keeps slamming them for high rates of HIV and child prostitution. I'm sure little Miss Ho-Bag started before she was 20.
