"Rice, in Baghdad, calls al-Sadr coward"

“I guess it’s all-out war for anybody but him,” Rice said. “I guess that’s the message; his followers can go to their deaths and he’s in Iran.”

These guys all talk about how they have no fear of death, can't wait to get to paradise, 72 virgins waiting for each and every holy warrior.

That Condi Rice she shore is cruel; she seem to be hinting ol' Mooky idn't like the other fellahs...

“I know he’s sitting in Iran,” Rice said dismissively, when asked about al-Sadr’s latest threat to lift a self-imposed cease-fire with government and U.S. forces."

    That has to hurt.

An American, a woman, basically in Muqtada's kitchen and callin' him out, callin' him a coward.

"Maaaaaajor insult in the Arab world," no?

I reckon Sec. of State Rice wouldn't have said it though without getting tacit approval from Maliki first...

sushisake writes: "Today, you label an uncalled for war in which close on a million, probably more, innocent people have been killed or had their lives ruined, a "Great Experiment"?"

Can you read and infer? You spoke of Bush's ratings in polls.

I wrote:I always laugh to see that foreign observers of our Great Experiment actually think polls decide anything of import in American politics.

Your obsession with Bush and America has you so wound up you can not even follow your own thoughts and arguments.

Try to raise the level of your posts.

    You're boring me.

Yawn - here we go again, must decide foreign policy with "polls."

"If things are going swimmingly, why is Bush's job approval ratings - of the war and of the economy - in the toilet?"

I always laugh to see that foreign observers of our Great Experiment actually think polls decide anything of import in American politics.

Truman polled far lower than Bush.

History remembers him quite differently though.

I figure it will be the same for Bush.

"Heh, I'm so glad there are people here to let me know everything is really going swell in bush's Iraq....despite the fact that a "rogue" Immam is threatening "all out war" with the US backed "government" if they don't lay off his henchman."

    Lay off his henchmen?

    They surrendered.

And their leader brave Moqtada al Sadr is hiding in Iran.

Condi Rice is in his kitchen and laughing at him. She called him a coward.

Al Sistani, the most revered Shia leader in Iraq, has told Al Sadr to cease his troublemaking.

That said, should the situation go south it will be blood on Britain's hands -

"It may even be necessary to reinforce the British contingent with more combat troops, something that the Ministry of Defence can ill afford as it prepares for the fighting season in Afghanistan.

"The only other option would be for Britain to admit finally that it has lost the fight in southern Iraq. That would mean an ignominious withdrawal and handing over control of Basra to the Americans, who grudgingly would have to take over responsibility for the south. As American officers and officials have privately made clear, much of today’s problems in Basra can be traced back to Britain’s failure to commit the forces necessary to control Basra and southern Iraq in general. Bush is, you know, polling at 29 percent. He is the worst president ever! He cain't even pronounce "nuclear" correctly! He is like, a total like, miserable failure.

So why don't the Dems have a candidate waltzing not only to nomination but towards an uncontested landslide in the federal election?

7 years of shaking their fists at Bush and they appear to be on the verge of creating an irreparable rift in their party if superdelegates select Hillary.

If they nominate the Marxist retread Whose Middle Name Must Not Be Spoken the RNC are going to unmask and destroy him quicker than you can say "G*d Damn America."

    Amazing.

"I know plenty about Islam, my friend, and know that when a Christian says 'ALL Muslims must die by the sword' (something you and your ilk have outright stated before on this site, albeit under your new handle you haven't yet) it is pure and utter hatred speaking, and no different from the terrorism you pretend to condemn. In a way, you make me laugh..."

Who's being "subjective" here, smith? Why do you presume to know what religion I believe or if I even have one?

    When did I ever say "All Muslims must - - - - " ?

I defy you smith, to post proof of what you wrote.

Poor smithinjapan, posting all this time on America's relations with Iraq, Iran and the Mohammedan world and he knows nothing about Islam.

"... anyone who pretends Christianity is any better than Islam is not only a fool, but a fool who practices idiocy. THAT is why there is war."

You slay me sometimes, smith, in your desperate and very Canadian need to be PC at all costs.

There is war because Christians consider their religion superior to Islam?

Which religion has divided the world in two, with one half, "the House of War," supposedly waging war against the faithful ?

    It ain't Xtianity,smith.

America has hundreds of mosques and practicing Mohammedans elected to Congress.

Saudi Arabia, Islam's spiritual home, does not allow any religion other than Islam practiced on its soil.

Compare the words and deeds attributed to the historical figure of Christ (and Buddha for that matter) with the words and deeds of Mohammed, the illiterate brigand who founded Islam.

Anyone born in the "Christian" nations of the West who concludes that Christianity is no better than Islam is laughably ignorant of the Western civilization he was born into.

Pope Benedict has spoken before, albeit indirectly, about the threat the civilized Christian world faces from the militant aspect of Islam's medieval cult, and how its spread was most often achieved by violence and mass slaughter.

"...this comment doesn't even make sense, my friend."

You mean you don't know enough about the topic or can't refute what I have written.

Let me refresh your memory, smithinjapan.

    September 16, 2006 -

"...The pope began his lecture at the University of Regensburg by quoting from a 14th-century dialogue between the Byzantine emperor, Manuel II Paleologos, and a Persian scholar. In a passage on the concept of holy war, Benedict recited a passage of what he called "startling brusqueness," in which Manuel questioned the teachings of Islam's prophet, Muhammad.

"Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," Benedict quoted the emperor as saying.

The pope neither explicitly endorsed nor denounced the emperor's words, but rather used them as a preface to a discussion of faith and reason. The Vatican said the pope did not intend the remarks to be offensive to Muslims.

"It was certainly not the intention of the Holy Father to undertake a comprehensive study of the jihad and of Muslim ideas on the subject, still less to offend the sensibilities of Muslim faithful," Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi told Vatican Radio.

But the reaction was quick, and though it was largely peaceful, it evoked the storm of violent protests that erupted in most Muslim countries after a Danish newspaper published a series of cartoons a year ago that lampooned Muhammad. In some ways, the denunciations seemed even more pronounced, given the pope's stature and authority over the world's 1.1 billion Roman Catholics."

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/15/AR2006091500800.html

    from the Jerusalem Post:

"Pope Benedict XVI's installation mass included two indications of a radical change in the Vatican's strategy toward Islam and Islamist terrorism. In his greeting the new pope welcomed fellow Catholics, other Christians and Jews - but not Muslims. Later, two selected people delivered intercessory prayers for oppressed Christians. One of the prayers was in Arabic.

"What did these gestures mean? The era of de-facto appeasement under Pope John Paul II is over. The era of subtle, discreet, yet firm confrontation has begun."

Notice, smith, how I bring facts, quotes and links?

All you have is evasion and sputtering denial...

“God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world,” the pope is expected to pray. “Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred.”

Since the Pope will offer this prayer at the foot of the WTC, destroyed when jihad came to America, it is clear he is referring to militant Mohammedans as being consumed with hatred.

He has spoken before about the threat the civilized world faces from the militant aspect of their medieval cult, and how its spread was most often achieved by violence and mass slaughter.

"On Saturday, a Washington-based group that monitors Islamic extremists said al-Qaida in Iraq has announced a one-month offensive against U.S. troops.

"The SITE group said the announcement was made on Web sites by the leader of al-Qaida in Iraq, Abu Ayyub al-Masri, who took over the extremist group after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a U.S. airstrike in 2006."

Looks like Al Qaeda is getting routed in Iraq, or their brand of terror and their vision of a new Caliphate is less and less appealing to Mohammedans - the cash is drying up.

"Speaking before congress in February, Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Michael McConnell commented that during the previous 12-18 months the intelligence community noticed that “al Qaeda has had difficulty in raising funds and sustaining themselves.” In early April, Undersecretary of the Treasury Stuart Levey echoed the DNI’s assessment, adding that the government’s efforts to combat terrorist financing “are more integrated than ever before” and have enabled the government to disrupt or deter some sources of al-Qaida financing and make “significant progress mapping terrorist networks.” A Philippine military official, for example, recently disclosed that lack of funding was a major factor hindering the al-Qaida-linked Abu Sayyaf terrorist group from carrying out major attacks, the last of which was conducted in 2005."

Odd choice of link for this story above. You read other news reports and it looks like al-Sadr's boys got their butts kicked:

"Iraqi soldiers swooped on the Basra stronghold of Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on Saturday, saying they had seized control of his militia bastion where they suffered an embarrassing setback in late March.

"The dawn raid by government troops on the Hayaniya district of the southern oil city was backed by a thunderous bombardment by U.S. warplanes and British artillery.

"It came after more intense fighting in Baghdad between security forces and Sadr’s black-masked militiamen. Police said 12 people had been killed in the Shi’ite slum of Sadr City and hospitals said they received more than 130 wounded overnight. …

“Our troops deployed in all the parts of the (Hayaniya) district and controlled it without much resistance,” Khalaf told Reuters. “Now we are working on house-to-house checking. We have made many arrests.”
