I think this is kind of dumb but at the same time kind of funny and quirky as only Japan can do. When you think about it, this ain't much different than other 'non living' objects as celebrities in other cultures, like howdy doody for example.

What the heck's going on with Jp society and its youth? This sounds like a grand theft auto videogame. Not too long ago you hardly heard about these kinds of things, not saying delinquents did not exist in Jp society, but more and more youth and engaged in reckless and dangerous behavior. Yet another sad example of negative influences from not only other countries, but a breakdown in the moral fabric of society. For all the rampant whining about Jp society heading towards militarism and all that other nonsense, fact is Jp society like many other societies is rapidly breaking down, no respect for elders, no respect for society or its laws. Truly scary.

Neat story, once again showing that Japanese culture is at the forefront of 'cool' even with all the negative news about the economy, etc. etc.

A wonderful story, once again defying the oft repeated negative stereotypes of Japanese people here and elsewhere. This would make a nice book or extended blog of various hitchhiking trips in Japan. Again, a nice refreshing story.

She could have at least given him some spare change or even said hello. Or at the least asked if he needed help, like 99.9 percent of the world's population would do for the homeless and needy in their country. Things like this make you wonder why Japan was even considered for the UN council. Shameful.

Some find her hot, others not so much. I think she looks decent but for some reason she just doesn't do it for me. Not saying she's unattractive but not my type.

Sounds kind of dumb on paper but I think this has the potential to be very popular. It's annoying when you run out of juice on your personal electronics like cell phones or mp3 player when you are out of the house and out of the office, so it's cool to be able to go for a simple walk and recharge it. If it doesn't add that much to the cost of a shoe I think it has potential.

I agree with Xeno's comments, as well as JmannGod's comments too. Very well thought out and a cut above the usual drivel here. Well done.

Immunity for crimes committed by personnel? No wonder it's a sticking point. For the most part coalition troops have conducted themselves admirably, even under extreme conditions. Those that have committed crimes have done so in the most heinous of circumstances that it garnered huge attention, like the rape and murder of the young Iraqi girl and her family. Why should those kinds of crimes not be persecuted by the Iraqis? There's nothing to hide, let such criminals face Iraqi justice.
And bring the troops home.
