Even a British commander felt that the war in Afghanistan was unwinnable. These issues coming in light that 30 civilians were killed in a recent U.S. airstrike, far more than what U.S. officials first admitted.
Now it has come to this, all that is left is to talk to the Taliban. I feel bad for the pro war guys but this is what it has come to. Piss poor planning, execution, airstrike after airstrike that has accomplished nothing but create more insurgents.

Well so much for those who incessantly complain about how the J cops and society "have it in for the foreigner." Yet again we have a foreigner who not only disgraced himself and his countrymen but also breached a sacred area, face no punishment whatsoever for his stupidity. In any other country this man would have been manhandled by a few dozen security personnel (especially in this day and age of terrorism).

Outrageous. I cannot begin to understand why one rewards others who have done nothing but destroy jobs, lives, companies, and entire countries with insane salaries, bonuses and other compensation. Since when is it morally right to reward these people? Something is seriously wrong with the picture here, these execs not only get paid handsomely for their irresponsible decisions, but they laugh all the way to the bank for all the victims of their stupidity. No punishment, no accountability, no closure for those who have suffered.

Thanks for the clarification USN, but I wasn't referring to the CO and others who were let go. I'm tallking about those closest to the actual incident. Article says it was recommended that 11 officers to be given disciplinary actions but that actually only 6 enlisted were disciplined. So the other 11 were not.
I am reading fine between the lines, thankyouverymuch.

An embarrasing breakdown, fortunate no one was killed. But only 6 enlisted got punished, how fitting as the officer corps seems to always escape punishment.

It is ultimately sad watching a clearly uncomfortable McCain valiantly attempting one last effort to breathe life into his campaign that is on life support. He has little energy, limping around as if he has some leg condition (not a great image for a man with questions surrounding his health), seems to have a lot of mind hiccups.
Obama is clearly light years ahead, alert, energetic, bright. This is the nail in the coffin for McCain's campaign.

I agree with you MrDickMorris, it actually is a rather nice picture disregard my previous statement. It's nice to see international teamwork and cooperation in a demanding sport like race car driving. Great for them.

Self service is definitely awesome in any industry especially airlines. As article states though luggage prevents many including myself from fully utilizing it.

True that picard, if some foreign nutter in another country was prancing around NAKED and taunting the police in a SACRED area, you can bet your last dollar that more than a handful of police would surround the area. For example let's see if only a 'handful' of cops and secret service would be around if some naked nutter was running around the white house. That this guy was not treated with more force as the situation deserved is fortunate, but if that had happened then the same people here would cry about Jp police "bruality." You just cannot win with some people here. Again, how convenient that many here find it altogether amusing and mocking the Jp police instead of rightfully concentrating on a foreigner disrespecting another country's sacred grounds and cultural institutions. Unbelievable.

Like the economy, Mccain is worn out and tired and haggard. These last few weeks before the election is the last gasp effort of a dying campaign.

I am so happy that quite a few of you would find this so hilarious and amusing, and save criticism and mockery for the police instead of on the rightful person, this tourist. The reason why it took so many police is nowadays in this scary world one cannot second guess and predict what crazy people will do. Anywhere else a few cops would have roughhandled or shot this guy.
Fact is, if this had been a Jp tourist doing some stupid stunt anywhere else in a very important area, then the harsh criticism and insults towards the tourist for disrespecting the country would be rampant.
Yet another example out of thousands of double standards. Sickening.

You're kidding me right neverknow2? Just go back to Sunday October 5th in the National section and go to the news thread about an Osaka based importer of snacks made in China lists which products are affected. That's just one example.
And Alien2Japan and others, this is about Chinese pet food stuffs, not about Japan university rice. By the way that was caused by the stupidity of a lone university employee's actions, hardly on the same league as milk executives willingly substituting a potentially lethal ingredient that will be exported around the world. Totally different.
