Right. And the minute we start to talk about withdrawing troops because, according to some here, things are going oh so beautifully, these very same people then cry, "not yet, things are still fragile and more time is needed!"

So which is it folks, is it all peachy and great or is it not? Because if it's peachy, then that means the troops can finally go home.

    A farce

The only "spin" being put on this is that some are conveniently refusing to answer why Iraqis are still a galaxy far, far away from operating INDEPENDENTLY.

Not really, again hardly anything for people to gloat over. Read the article again, see the first sentence? That's right, Iraqi for ces supported by U.S. forces.

Yes sir, over 5 years after the war in Iraq started, the U.S. is STILL backing and training these guys?

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=3561501

Can anyone out there gloating over how "successful" and "great" things are going with all things Iraqi security explain to me why it takes over 5 years to train an average human being with the most basics of security and offensive operations? And pretty please, none of that "ethnic divisions" excuse.

I've said this many times before, it takes an average out of shape, video game playing, fast food munching, malcontent teenage American male 14 weeks to go from zero to fit and ready infantry soldier, ready to report to their unit and straight to the front lines where they are expected to patrol, do security ops, ocnduct offensive and defensive tactics, etc. etc.

Exactly how is Japan "reduced to this?" What's that supposed to mean? The fact that cosplay and Japanimation and its ilk have spread in popularity across the world has absolutely nothing to do with Japan "reducing" itself to anything. Come on people. If anything, it's the foreigners that are "reduced" to being infatuated with all things cosplay, not the nation or people of Japan. Any country would do something similar to this if its cultural export influenced other people in other countries. Much ado about nothing yet again.

    Great for these people!

Not quite some14some, I'm hardly "ignoring" the problem, because there is nothing to "ignore." And the fact that the media in Japan is focusing on these senstational stabbing incidents is proof enough that this problem is NOT being ignored. All the theories here are irrelevant and absolutely without merit in terms of what motivates people to go out and stab people and kill strangers for whatever reason. People kill because they are inclined to do that. They are sociopaths and hardly unique to Japan. Blaming lack of individualism and free thinking and free will in Japan as a root cause of criminal behavior is absolutely false, and quite frankly, insulting to the people of Japan. If this were the case then you would not see people in other countries, that supposedly have limitless freedom, opportunities, and free will, commit murders and other acts of violent crime. It never fails to amaze me the amateur psychologists and experts here with their false assumptions and analysis.

Speaking of le surge, I said it before and I'll say it again, retired general Shinseki sure looks like a genius now. Rummy and company treated him like a leper but now it's funny watching all these "experts" crowing about what a great idea le surge was, etc. etc.

Iraqi forces backed by U.S. troops.

Anyone that gloats over Iraqi forces backed by U.S. troops (which in actuality translates to U.S. troops backed by Iraqi forces), over 5 years after the Iraq War started, is grasping for straws.

The only time anyone should gloat or be ecstatic is when the headlines read, Iraqi forces launch new assault, period. No backing from U.S. forces, no backing from coalition forces, no backing from coalition/U.S. air strikes.

    No end in sight.

"Society" really can't do much of anything to regulate what people will or won't do. If a person is going to stab or kill someone, they're going to do it. The only thing I think Japanese society can do in this seeming epidemic is to be proactive in 'self defense.' By that I mean perhaps carrying pepper spray, or hiring more police and having them be a physical presence and armed.

Yea I heard he spent time in Japan working for his father or grandfather's company. Apparently he speaks Japanese but I'm not sure how fluent he is. The Hulk movie was pretty cool, not too bad. A bit more exciting than the Ang Lee version though that's not saying much.

Betzee does bring up an excellent point, le surge has been working in part due to the extreme bloodshed and ethnic cleansing in many formerly mixed neighborhoods. To say that this has created even worse animosities and bitterness for future generations compared to the past is an understatement of the century.

The tragic thing is, I can see that once the buildup in Afghanistan reaches its peak, Al Qaeda or whatever it calls itself can rally more troops back to Iraq or anywhere else it wants in that area of the globe.

Now allow me to differ from the usual 'it sucks' blah blah. I think Japanese variety programs are very fun and at times educational. One variety show I've seen recently highlights different countries and their cultures/customs, and have celebrities try to guess how the local people perform certain tasks. Very fun and informative. Things like that are very fun and way more entertaining than the garbage on American t.v. which I watch all the time (nothing but boring dramas about doctors, cops, and lawyers, and the only "variety" are dumb reality shows who the heck wants to see those losers). Yea not all is good but definitely more entertaining than a lot of stuff in other places.
