I don't like these camera freaks taking pictures of my kids clothed or naked. A lot of them don't seem to understand that parents don't want any strangers taking pictures of their kids.

I think the whole infatuation with whether capitalism will fall is misguided. Capitalism is the best economic system to harness our technology and investment for the greatest good; the problem now, is the dark side of the reliance on fiat money, money that is printed and printed and printed with nothing backing it up. A currency backed by gold would lead to more uniform economic growth with less of the mighty rises and corresponding falls.

Willib:
I am not convinced by platitudes. If you consider the entire population of Muslims in the world and the entire population of other religions, the vast majority of these people live in peace (not everyone lives in the West Bank). We are simply programmed by propaganda to believe certain things, and Bush has inculcated us with a hatred/fear of Muslims for the past 5 years. Think rationally based on statistics of actual physical conflict and the reality is the world is a pretty safe place.

The two religions do peacefully coexist for the most part.

Well, in my case, it is three cold beers a night and a lay once a week. I guess I have a bit of the old man in me.

Lived here almost 10 years and find the newer supermarkets in Jusco or places like that you go to by car, very high quality. The local supermarkets near small stations or Daiei are hit or miss and generally not well kept up.

Well, I went to a really good high school in the US, and had a very good education so I am biased in that sense. After graduating university I got a bit of experience teaching in the US and Japan. A good school in the US beats the average Japanese school, but the variance from inner city to suburb in the US is so drastic and schocking that I cannot say US schools in general are better than Japanese schools. For all the faults, at least Japanese schools provide some consistency and there is no risk of getting shot, perhaps punched/slapped/kicked. Also, Japanese teachers do not seem to be required to be "performers" as much as I felt was necessary at a US inner city school.

Not really surprised. I have an extremely long fuse, but these packed trains can drive one nuts. They have a rule for everything in this country except how many people you can stuff into a train. Some items that annoy me on a train are the constant and unrelenting farting of these salarymen, people breathing on my neck (never happens in the US), and the freaking masks!

Aso is out of touch. He thinks just like Bush that a snicker and a grin will solve everything. Should be in the trenches talking to single mothers and young families about what he can do to make it easier to have children to avoid this type of thing.
