My concern is that you get to the point where you want the government to watch everybody, but you have to ask, who is watching the government?

He probably killed a guy with a family in a similar situation as himself instead of taking his gripe to someone with culpability.

Maybe foreigners are discouraged to study when they walk into an establishment and see a look of (take your pick): astonishment/disgust/fear/perplexity on all the faces of the Japanese.

Such a break would not bother me as long as I was offered equal breaktime off for secular activities (coffee break, etc.), if the prayer time was not compensated or they worked later. However, if the other Japanese workers are actually working more then that is problematic.

The "Japan is different" argument really is not convincing. Once the retirees start needing their money, they will withdraw it wanting cash. The process may not be acute, rather chronic. Making it harder for the government to borrow.

I worked in California prior to Japan and can say for a fact taxes are quite a bit lower in Japan. My advice would be to rationalize the pension system first of all and make it obligatory to pay for those who have some form of income. Then, the sales tax should be raised by 1 percent/year over 3 years then stop, with concomitant cuts by the government each year of 2-5% in discretionary spending. But what the hell do I know.

The idea that Japan is different b/c it's debt is held domestically does not convince me. At some point the savers who finance this debt via postal savings are going to want their money.

The above is so true. On the other hand, working for American bosses, they can go too far the other way, flitting from one topic to another with no depth at maximum speed while reading an email on the dingleberry and typing a second email with various mistypes on the laptop along with several other multitasks all while talking to you in stream of conscience (like this post). At least the JP boss tends to move in a linear and deliberate fashion.

I can't agree with some of the above posters. 25 and still living at home with the folks is in most cases lazy (goes for men and women).

Listen, if a man of 25 still lives at home, he needs to go look in the mirror and figure out what the hell he is still doing at home. My dad always said, "you can stay here til you're 18." The daughter is probably just doing what the dad in Nagano can't.

I think Japan really needs to elect a president for a fixed term. This is ridiculous. Imagine if a crisis were to suddenly arise.

I would expect more calories considering it has 10 beef patties and 10 slices of cheese. The beef patties must be pretty small. Anyways, on a budget, you could get this with a fry and drink set and be set for the whole day on about JP1200. That ain't bad folks.
