Of the 72 million visitors 3.5 million were foreigners. That's 4.9%. By far not like the exaggeration that at least 10% would be Japanese ONLY.

I can still hear Colin Powell screaming: "We have the proof!!!". Waving with a pile of documents about WMD (which of course never were found) to justify waging a war. A war that killed thousands and thousands of people. This time it's WikiLeaks waving with documents and suddenly Washington is very concerned about the "lives of innocents". Or is the White House concerned about something else?

Haneda will have a 24/7 shuttle bus connection with Tokyo Station. I got this from a very reliable source within the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. So, no worries about your connection to downtown.

I am racking my brain here trying to figure out what Sweden did on the international stage that could make it a target of terrorists.

I'd suggest you to follow international politics more. For instance the elections in Sweden. Just a hint.

Smith, my "what's wrong with you" was not about the fact that you think that prices for tobacco should be much higher. I agree with you on that for 100%. Smoking is unhealthy and should be discouraged which can't be accomplished by a 40% tax hike because Japanese men don't have a backbone so they can never stop smoking. Even if the price goes up.

Back on topic now. I was talking about the backbone of Japanese men. Once I was in a restaurant in Tokyo. The guy at the table next to mine was smoking. I mean SMOKING!!! He lit up one after another cigarette, blowing his smoke over my table and over my food. Of course I said something about it, without any effect. When he left he apologized to me and said "I'm sorry, you were right. I just can't control myself". A 40% tax hike will prevent jellyfish like this from smoking? Never!!

My guess is, there will be no more comments from you on this thread.

My guess is, you guessed wrong AGAIN.

Smith, what's wrong with you lately (sorry for asking you a question, you don't need to answer)? You're really kicking up a fuss recently. Take a chill pill, dude!

Problem is Japan needs something from China more than China needs something from Japan.

Let's say Japan stops all exports to China (not that this will ever happen, but just let's say) of products and components. China will come to a complete stop.

Where I'm coming from a pack of Marlboro is at the same price as in Japan now. A kg of rice however is about 115 yen.

Russians!!! Since they can go anywhere they want they cause havoc everywhere. I've never seen ruder and more ill-mannered people then tourists from Russia.

The Chinese in mainland China are quite OK. But I've seen how the ethic Chinese treat the Malay and Indians in Malaysia and Singapore. Disgusting!!!

I remember that not so long ago a poster on this board said that the Japanese team lack players that play in strong competitions abroad. Well, 35% of the squad consists of players who play in Russia, England, Germany, Italy or Belgium (only Belgium is ranked lower than Japan, but hey). At least half of the starting lineup will consist of "foreigners" on October 8.

About 15 years ago China didn't care about islands or waters at all or who administered them. Till Beijing realized that these islands and waters could be very important for China's growth. Since then they suddenly showed up with irrelevant ancient maps and irrelevant historical facts and started disputes with countries because all of sudden now these islands and waters are undisputed Chinese territories. China, you're about to cross the limit and you're gonna pay for it if you do. Wise up while you still can because more and more signals from other world powers indicate that you're standing alone.

Sharp can cry and cry about the strong yen, but many other companies are doing just fine, the Koreans are selling about half of all the tvs sold in Latin America.

So, besides that half of Latin America, what are the figures for the rest of the world?

I don't understand the complaints of the pro-China posters here. If you like it or not, at this very moment the Senkaku islands are controlled by JAPAN. Disputes or not, at THIS moment they are NOT controlled by China or Taiwan. The Chinese trawler ignored several warnings from the Japanese coast guard to leave Japanese waters (because the islands are controlled by Japan, remember) and "collided" (rammed?) with 2 Japanese coast guard vessels when it finally did. The absurd complaints and threats from China during the past few days about this incident shows that China still has third world manners.

By the way snowboard, Smith is spot on.

I was on Lufthansa's A380 recently. What a great plane that is! Sooo quiet! So relaxed! And, as frontandcentre said, great that Narita has extra lines for re-entry permit holders now. I passed immigration in 5 minutes. Coming from an A380!!
