Sadly there is widespread ignorance about hidden disabilities.

There are a lot of people out there who have serious problems with their spine, joints, nerves, etc... which make it very painful to stand. Others who look healthy may actually be having dialysis, treatment for cancer or a number of conditions which make them weak and tired.

Never seat in a courtesy seat unless you really need it!

    homelessness has its fun side.

How offensive to trivialize homelessness like this. With the continuing crisis, maybe the sales of weekly Playboy will drop so much that these two will find out how much fun it is to be homeless for real.

Speaking at a promotional event for American cosmetic brand “Love and Hate,”

Never heard of them. Why would a cosmetic brand want someone like Kyoko Kano promoting their products? She's frighteningly unattractive.

@Notginger, before 30, you are "cute" and past 30, you are "elegant and refined". That's my understanding of why there are no winners for women in their teens and 20s.

I would like my money to go towards things that I need - health care, schools, pension... I pay for these things and I would like those improved.

tmarie, the taxes you pay aren't just for YOU and the things YOU need. We all pay taxes for some services we don't use (and services that we hope we'll never need).

Hopefully this crisis will mark the start of a new way of living where we all become more caring towards each other. The ever-growing gap between the rich and poor is creating no end of social problems. It's clear that the kind of divided society we have now doesn't work. We need to create an inclusive society which cares for everybody.

In many countries it has become more lucrative for people on live on unemployment benefit than work for low wages. If we create a more equal society with more equal wages, people will want to work and they will regain their dignity. We will all be better off for it.

Ryoko Hirosue and Christel Takigawa look lovely. No-one should wear a yellow suit, ever.

The story is missing some details surely? It's an apartment, not a house, so I assume the kotatsu table was in the apartment and not in a separate building? The smell would have been unbearable. The corpse would have been covered in maggots. And this family ate and slept there??

    Beautiful shot!

Mayuki, we are in the minority. Most readers prefer some talent in a skimpy outfit, judging from the number of comments.

There's always a choice of standing up, getting off the train, or get help from fellow passengers, no matter how crowded the train is. She just need to learn on how deal with a pervert like that....

When something like that happens to you, you freeze and any rational reasoning goes out of the window. Fellow passengers may not help anyway. I'm not surprised a 17-year-old would just sit there crying.

Do we actually know for sure she was murdered and didn't die of natural causes?

Maybe she was married, maybe the guy was married, maybe it was just a one-night stand, maybe she was an escort, who knows? I can think of many reasons why the guy would panick and run off even if he didn't kill her.

Shouganaika, exactly. Let's have some statistics. How many Japanese eat whale regularly, how many have just eaten it once, how many have never eaten it at all.

Am I the only one looking forward to this? Anne Suzuki is a good actress and Fujiwara was good in everything I've seen him in. I don't like Oguri's acting as much but I'm willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong.

Shiuu, it was me who called you on it in the other thread. I'm sure your friends would put you up and vice versa, but would they do it indefinitely? I find that hard to believe. I would open my home to my close friends for days, weeks but not indefinitely. After a month or two at most I'd expect them to make alternative arrangements. I'd be lying if I said otherwise.

Also this may sound harsh but there are 'levels' of friendship so to speak. In hard times you may find that some people you considered good friends only see you as an acquaintance. I hope for your sake you never get to find out.

It's sad that this pseudo-science is used for choosing a dating partner or members of a work team. However there are some real scientific projects researching the correlation between blood types and certain illnesses.

Posted in: Blood type is a good tool to understand different human behaviors. Most Japanese have some knowledge of each blood type and its trait so blood type often becomes a good conversation piece.

I used to get fukubukuro, it's a great way to get clothes and accessories on the cheap. The things you get can be worth more than three times the amount you pay. And if you don't like them, just swap them like these girls.

I don't think the state should be involved in forcing people to wear a seatbelt.

Yes they should. Because when you don't wear a seatbelt, you can also crush the other occupants of the car in an accident.

Japan needs a hard-hitting campaign with gory images combined with drastic police checks.

**Hangings for being gay (as opposed to hung for engaging in gay sex)

    Hangings for getting raped

Hangings of children (as opposed hanging juveniles which is not the same as children**

Sorry but this is just semantics. We could argue whether a teenager is a child or a juvenile or whether being gay just means having a certain sexual orientation or actively engaging in gay sex. Does it matter? The main point of this article is that these things don't happen in most countries, they happen in Iran and we need to put pressure on Iran to stop.

As a woman, I feel another important point is the hypocrisy of the regime and the double standards where girls or women found guilty of immoral conduct receive much harsher sentences than men. This is more about fear and hatred of women than about maintaining moral standards.

I'm well-aware that not everyone will share my views but it isn't fair to imply that they are based on sensationalist journalism.
