You've got to admit JAL does have better seats than many airlines in both business and economy. The class J seats for example are so much better than most business class seats you find in domestic and short-haul flights in Europe.

It's well-known that a supermarket car park is the perfect spot for a 'blind date'. Let's hope his leg injuries aren't too serious and the rest of the gang get arrested too.

She looks rough in that photo. Are the early pregnancy hormonal changes hitting her hard? Has she suddenly realized she sabotaged her career? Did the penny drop that Bun is a sleaze?

This so-called "financial risk" should be irrelevant. Japan is a rich country and can afford to give every pregnant woman the proper medical care needed during pregnancy and delivery whatever her circumstances. Is this really the 21st century??

It's so creepy that she's going to be moulded into an idol before she even got the chance to develop her own personality. I wonder how many of these girls end up completely messed up once they've passed their sell-by date. What are her parents thinking?

Wage slavery isn't just a Japanese problem. This is not so different from workers on low wages in other industrialised countries. How many people come home exhausted every night for a salary that barely covers their basic expenditure? They don't have enough money or spare time for a social life and no hopes for the future.

At least in the EU we have the European Working Time Directive. Japan desperately needs to enforce a similar legislation. I can't see it happening in my lifetime though.

I like her acting, it's a pity she seems to have such a low opinion of herself. Is it necessary for women in the 21st century to define who they are through marriage and the way they look? Surely she should be proud of her acting skills, which put her above the endless stream of cute young Japanese actresses?

Give me skimpy clothes over a burka any day. I don't like the increasing sluttiness of modern styles but at least Japanese girls can wear the clothes they want to.

"A number of U.S. companies, including giants Microsoft, Cisco, Google and Yahoo" I wish we could boycott these companies but they're so deeply embedded in the infrastructure we use every day, it would be nearly impossible. China is a threat to the political, economical and environmental stability of the world. We need to stop bending over backwards whenever the Chinese are concerned and start growing a spine. Why boycott the Moscow olympics and not the Beijing ones?

My recent interviews all featured the dreaded "tell me how your last line manager would describe you". I'm tempted to say why don't you read what he/she put in the reference.

While I agree with the general 'j-cops are useless' sentiment of this thread, I should point out that police forces around the world have similar problems. Can you name a police force that has the time and resources needed to deal with stalkers? The police can't give every stalking victim round-the-clock protection and that's the only thing that would really help. Warnings and restraining orders have little effect on a deranged person.

At 12 years old the first girl was under the age of consent therefore she was raped. She wan't old enough to consent to having sex. It's as simple as that and whether she consented or not is not open to debate. It is a case of STATUTORY RAPE.

There is nothing remotely attractive about Mika Kano's manners or physical appearance. I will never understand why some women try to emulate the Kano sisters. Who wants to look like an old call-girl has-been with too much plastic surgery? Most Japanese women of their generation have aged better than them, in a much more natural way.

soothsayer, you misunderstood me. My reaction was against the vigilante approach. I agree 100% that convicted paedophiles should not be released from jail, ever, until we find a treatment for them. This will stop the reoffending problem.

Then, we have to deal with the problem of first-time offenders. How do you detect them? Apparently there are very large numbers of people with such tendencies. The vast majority of them will never harm a child. It's extremely difficult to detect these first-time offenders before it's too late.

I find this article rather naive and ill-informed. Given that many - if not most - child abusers were abused themselves as children, they were once innocent victims too. What we need is effective treatment to break the cycle of sbuse. At the moment there is no effective therapy and offenders who are released often go on to abuse other children.

Japan has a problem in the sense that it makes disturbing material too easily available to these people and makes pedophilia look almost acceptable. It's going to take a lot of time and effort to change this attitude.

This goes a lot further than the usual bullying. I can't believe anyone could walk by while a 16-year-old girl was beaten and burned with cigarettes without doing anything. Knowing this went on for 35 mn makes it even worse.

ViVi models have a very short shelf life, Marie is making the best of her looks while they last. She can delay her education until she's 25, 30 or much older. These days you can get an education at any age. She's a smart girl who understands how the world works and she has a much more pleasant personality than most celebrities. Good luck to her.
