[Mubarak] seems a relatively balanced and independent individual in a regional hotbed of war and conflict. Mubarak replaced the pro-Israeli peace President Sadat when Sadat was assasinated for that very reason. Mubarak got Egypt back on board with the Arab world after they were kicked out of the Arab League for signing that peace treaty with Israel.

Are you suggesting that Mubarak is not pro-Israeli? Did Mubarak ignore the treaty?

I thought democracy involved a ballot box and a vote?

But if one man decides who can and cannot be on the ballot...

There are a lot of misinformed people posting on here about Mubarak and the current situation.

    Indeed.

So, again, who would you like to see as head of state of Egypt?

Whoever the Egyptian people choose in a fair and free election.

Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Muslim Brotherhood are terrorists, plain and simple. :-)

Now there is a great on-topic, relevant, and non-offensive comment. Keep it up.

Again, we both agree that there are some sad, sick, and warped individuals.

I agree. It is sad. However, I think some do know better, but choose to knowingly spread the lies and hate...

I agree, many do know better and choose to lie.

I believe we do understand each other perfectly.

Yeah, its so sad that so many fail to understand. I guess they just don't know any better.

Mubarak backers attack anti-gov't protesters; 3 dead, 600 injured

I suspect they are more Mubarak-backed than Mubarak backers.

Indeed, that is the role this mufti is playing.

    I agree, its sad.

We should be careful with the Muslim Brotherhood. The book "Surrendering Islam - The subversion of Muslim politics throughout history until the present day" demonstrates that various opposition movements, including the Muslim Brotherhood, are carefully groomed by Western intelligence to come into play when it is time for a regime change.

Although the oppressive measures from which the Egyptian people have suffered might be temporarily eased, once in government, any opposition party will serve the same pay-masters.

And Obama sending Frank Wisner of the CIA (former Vice Chairman of AIG and director of Enron) to advise Mubarak is very worrying.

Nice to see different religions united to pay their respects for the suffering of all the different people who were imprisoned at Auschwitz.

I wonder what the military leaders got in return. And I wonder if this is in any way related to Obama's sending Frank Wisner of the CIA (former Vice Chairman of AIG and director of Enron) to advise Mubarak.

This whole thing can get really ugly.

Lets hope Mubarak leaves soon, to be replaced by someone who while consider the wishes of the people.

Bottom line is, someone hired by the White House and the State Department to analyze Middle Eastern affairs probably has a bit more insight into the situation

    Insight, yes. But honesty?

but when we go in with a heavy hand in places like Iraq and Afg, to help stop human rights issues, we are the bad guys.

To help stop human rights issues? Oh dear, how old are you?

But of course. In your world everything is America's fault.

Yep, pretty much. Or at least the fault of whoever is controlling America.

Both men were much more deserving of the prize... Certainly El Baradei calling Iran out on their IAEA violations is at least noteworthy.

Actually, Iran has not violated any NPT rules. Seems the guy might have been pressured to word his report in a certain way.

Elbaradei was incompetent as head of the UN watchdog agency. His Nobel prize is as hilariously irrelevant as Arafat's.

Both men were much more deserving of the prize than Obama (and Kissinger).

When the new elections take place -there is a very good chance that Ireland will choose to default on this "debt" letting the banks take responsibility for their own problems.

    Lets hope so.

The Islamic State of Iraq, which is a front group for al-Qaida, which is a front group for the CIA/Mossad, claimed responsibility for three bombings north of Baghdad last week.

The U.S. military declined to place blame on a single group, saying there are a number of different terrorist elements with varying objectives.

    Indeed there are many.

AuntyAmerican; Mubarak in office 30 years. Obama in office 2 years.

AuntyAmerican was referring to American imperialism, not just Obama.

Obama is just a puppet, nothing has changed since he got in. The US is responsible for keeping this dictator in power.

How do you know they wern't killed by thier own? Do you think Mormons from Utah did it?

Did anyone ever accuse Mormons from Utah?

The problem is that people are always throwing around baseless accusations, and often retaliating based on these accusations.

"The wife of Tunisia's ousted president picked up some choice items before fleeing the country last week: 1.5 tons of gold bars worth $56 million.

Leila Trabelsi raided the country's gold reserves with the help of private militia and a phone call from her husband, diplomatic sources tell Le Monde (via Daily Mail). The chief of Tunisia's bank refused to hand over the money until former president Ben Ali intervened.

Trabelsi and her gold joined Ali in exile in Saudi Arabia.

Known as the Tunisian Marie Antoinette, Trabelsi lived an opulent and corrupt lifestyle (see: yachts and pet tigers) that helped spur popular outrage." -- Business Insider, Jan 18

atamant, I stated in my previous post that more and more countries are coming out to officially recognize an independent Palestinian state with the pre-1967 borders and that the Israelis should move back to the pre-1967 borders quick. You see, the Palestinians do have their state, its called Palestine.

Practically the entire world population, the International Court of Justice, the UN, the EU foreign affairs council and other qualified groups all say that the land beyond the pre-1967 borders belongs to the Palestinians and that all settlements, including in East Jerusalem, are illegal under international law and an obstacle to peace.

Abbas was willing to give all of that up for a few symbolic crumbs. That is not right; he is a traitor.

The Israelis' actions are THE obstacle to peace, they do not want peace, they never have, and likely never will want peace. Not only must the Israelis freeze settlement construction (i.e, theft), they must get out of all Occupied Palestinian Territories, it does not belong to them, it is Palestine.
