There is no Palestine. Is "Palestinian" a race? Why aren't they just called "Arabs"?

Are Americans a race? Canadians? French?...

    No.

Are Israelis a race? No. There isn't even a Jewish race, its a religious group.

Just because a group has wiped Palestine off the map, it does not mean the Palestinians have ceased to exist. In fact, the UN still recognizes the Occupied Palestinian Territories; they are not called the Occupied Arab Territories.

These people are Palestinians, and their land is Palestine.

Al-Issaoui, the opposition official, spelled out what he said is the human cost of the confrontation with Gadhafi’s forces: 10,000 dead, 30,000 injured, with 7,000 of them in serious condition, and 20,000 youths who have disappeared.

When will we learn that we should not listen to "opposition officials".

Is there any real evidence that Gadhafi is attacking civilians, rather than armed militia? I suspect not.

Yes!!! Especially since we're dealing with Tepco. They have done dirty stuff before.

If top heads don't role, they should shut down all nuclear power plants because this sort of incident will repeat itself.

I would include any government person who looked the other way, rather than doing their job.

This war has nothing to do with protecting civilians.

As for the often-mentioned borders of 67, Israel entered the West Bank after being attacked by Egypt, Jordan, and Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War.

No serious scholar, even Israeli, says that today.

Regarding the U.N Security Council Resolution 242, you forgot to mention that it emphasized the "inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war". What part of inadmissible do you not understand?

BTW, you seem to be excluding the many Palestinian Christians. Why?

There is no reason why anyone would not recognize Palestine. The pre-1967 border is recognized by the whole world, except "Israel".

The Palestinians insist they will not resume peace talks until Israel stops building settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem—lands it captured in the 1967 Middle East war and which the Palestinians want for their future state.

This is not only land that the Palestinians want, it is land that already belongs to them, the whole world says so. And these so-called settlements are not settlements, they are illegal occupations (theft).

So why on earth would Israel use white phosphorus against the palestinians? could it be in retaliation for the rockets/mortars and suicide bombers.

Nothing justifies using white phosphorous on civilians, let alone on a known UN school packed with unarmed civilians.

All Israel has to do to stop the rockets is to stop this several-decades-long illegal occupation and start respecting international law.

I wonder what "Palestinians" would be called considering Palestine/Phillistine hasn't existed for a long time.

No, Palestine still exists, its still there. If you go to the UN website, you'll see that they often mention the "Occupied Palestinian Territories", where they state that the land belongs to the Palestinians. I guess, if it'll make you happy, you could call them Occupied Palestinians.

The people are Palestinians, and their land is Palestine.

Why are they called "Palestinians" when there is no Palestine?

Just because Palestine has been wiped off the map does not mean that the Palestinian people ceased to exist.

The goal of establishing a Palestinian state, living in peace with Israel, “can only be achieved through dialogue and negotiations―there is simply no other way,” [Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman] Palmor said.

Yeah, the Israelis continue to say this and they continue to do everything they can to sabotage dialogue. So basically, a Palestinian state will never be established if we continue waiting for Israel's and America's blessings.

In fact, we do not need their blessing. The world is now firmly behind the Palestinians. The Palestinian state already exists, we don't need the UNSC or America to officially recognize it.

Even if the power plant blew up, Tokyo is far enough away that there wouldn't be immediate danger.

    Are you sure about that?

The Tokyo tap water was contaminated enough when the wind changed and it rained after hydrogen caused an explosion over one of the reactors.

If one of the reactors had actually blewn up, all the plant staff would have had to be evacuated and so there would not have been anyone left to cool down the other reactors. Eventually all six reactors would have blown up.

Tokyo is not all that far away. I certainly would not want to be around if the entire Kanto region needs to be evacuated. I would have felt much more at ease if I could leave, but I didn't.

I suspect many of those most critical of the "flyjins" are those who wanted to leave but chose not to, for whatever reason (pressure, money, lazy, ...).

Posted in: Why did those foreigners who decided to leave Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 disaster come in for so much derision from some people who labeled them with words like 'flyjin?'

Just because it's a positive effect in Britain, for example, doesn't guarantee it'll be a positive effect in Japan.

    Are British summers hot?

Regardless, I hope the do it. They should have done it long before this crisis.

Lights are still a huge source of energy consumption.

Indeed. That is why the trains I take every morning now have their lights off.

Plus, daylight savings is a pain to remember and adjust to.

They could always make long term or permanent change of time zone.

Really, Japan should just invest in insulation. That would help save energy more than anything else, both in the winter and the summer.

Excellent point. Every placed I have lived in had crappy insulation. The moment the heater (in winter) or air con (in summer) is turned off, the temperature immediately approached the outdoor temps.

I can just imagine a morning rushhour train, jam-packed and without aircon.

I think the switching will help. But regardless, I hope they do it by two hours. Having the sun rise so early is mottainai! I would very much like to go too work in the morning while its still cool, and return home before sunset.

Well, if nobody is going to live or farm on this land, it might be a good time to replace them with wind farms, fill them up with wind turbines.

Lieberman2012, You've painted a beautiful picture of "Israel". Strange that this is the same one that recently murdered 1400 unarmed civilians in Gaza, including attacking a packed UN school with white phosphorous.

hworta269, Thank you for pointing out that Palestine has been there since the days of the Romans. But what exactly gives certain Jews the right to go there and kick out the Palestinian inhabitants?

I’m not Jewish and have no vested interest, except obviously being with the rest of the civilized world in being way-tired of hearing about the Middle-East and their apparent inability to settle differences and live peacefully.

This is not about two neighbours who can't get along. It is about followers of one religion from all over the world getting together to steal land, and terrorize and murder the inhabitants, who have been living there for many generations.

Gazans still do not control their own border. They cannot freely leave/enter their own land. They can't export. There are many things they still cannot import. Even when they grow their own food, Israel sends in large tractors escorted by tanks to destroy their crops (recent YouTube video documents this). Despite all this, as the world sits on the fence, most of the Palestinian response has been peaceful, but we only hear about the occasional rocket.

And yes it may have been Palestinian land for a couple of hundred years but wasnt there also a land called Israel that was the land of Jewish people since biblical times?

I'm glad you admit that it has been Palestinian land for hundreds of years.

But why would followers of a religion be allowed to kick out the inhabitants of a land just because the land was previously inhabited for a short time thousands of years ago by followers of the same religion?

Israel is being critisised for keeping land it gained as a result of its neighbours aggression

That is clearly a zionist talking point you are repeating. No serious scholar believes that, even Israeli ones.

The democraticaly elected Palestinian "government" lob the indiscriminate rockets. The government surely speak for the people don't you think?

And the democratically elected Israeli government attacked with white phosphorus shells a UN school packed with civilians.

There is a recognized state of Palestine, with the 1967 borders. Some countries have yet to recognize these borders officially, but that time will come. "Israel" can't do anything about it.
