All the hating on this article needs to be taken elsewhere, a hater forum or something. Let's celebrate someone whose powerful and evocative music lifted so many hearts.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if MJ had serious psychological issues as a result of not only being a child star, but being a star who never, ever left the limelight since those days.

And I feel sorry for your children, OhioDonna, for being deprived the chance to make their OWN decisions about an artist and his work, and the fact that they were probably subjected to all sorts of awkward moments with friends when it was revealed that they didn't know his songs during his heyday.

All this does bring around an interesting topic, though: the current generation of kids and their exposure to MJ's music. I've no doubt that like the Beatles, his music will continue to live on and be used in many contexts, but what will remain known about him? I showed a book on Elvis to some Japanese jnr high school students not 15 minutes ago, and they didn't know who he was. And chatting about MJ to a 23-year-old here, he was only familiar with MJ and when I showed him a clip from 'Beat It', he said the song was not familiar.

I think that was the point, Ichya, I guess the speaker knows that 'Oriental' is an outdated term that emphasised the 'modern' west and 'exotic' east, when in fact the world is round and even compass directions are all actually relative, with no start point.

Given how thorougly the police here like to establish every little detail in interviews after an accident, I'm guessing baachan was already 'mou ii ' of the 'mendokusai' chatting and just wanted to go home.

The larceny I can understand and even forgive. It's the stolen bike that worries me. That's worth a lot more than 4k.

Were there really three thousand? I can't understand how the companies could afford to let it get so out of hand.

As for 'A long queue is clearly the most effective means of advertising', yes, there's nothing that makes me want to shop more than the prospect of lining up for hours in the early summer sun.

Making accusations at this guy in pointless until we get some more information. I don't think anyone has any right to go proclaiming how he should be punished without being in full possesion of the facts.

There could be all sorts of reasons, but the only one that I will confidently is that small houses with tiny driveways barely big enough for a car only increase the risk. And as for backing in to the driveway; extremely hard in the narrow streets around my home. Those are so narrow they actually require one to drive up onto the so-called sidewalk to allow traffic coming towards you to pass. I can't imagine most of my neighbors managing to reverse park.

I must say though, pretty hard for a 1 year old to get around. Shouldn't be that hard for Mum to keep her safe. How on earth did she get out?

There's a world of difference between 1 and 1 and 11 months, though... Just how mobile was this kid?

It's true that J-TV loves to stereotype and make the vaguest of distinctions. And since most Talento-TV consists of a host calling out his guests for being stupid or saying something they shouldn't, it's no surprise that words like okama are plastered all over the screen.

Ironically, J-TV will censor entire bits of footage of someone walking in a street if there's a chance it will be recognised by anyone in authority, resulting in ridiculous footage of people walking in a field of shimmering, shifting CGI or mosaic. And yet there's no censorship of blatant prejudice and the terminology that's programming viewers into believing those words are okay.

Poor things. It isn't so common for Japanese to go overseas for tertiary study, so she must have been pretty clever to be doing postgrad abroad... And killed by bad luck instead of some madman or driving accident... What a pity.

He's no ordninary talento, he's a member of one of Japan's most successful and longest running boy bands. And despite the fact that they've been at it 15 years or so, you'll still be hard pressed to find a student who doesn't know Kimutaku.

Mark: It's a basic question to sound out if the candidate has done their research. For example, even I know that Skylark runs Gusto, but has other restaurants, too. If your candidate can't even be bothered to make an effort in that regard, it doesn't speak well for their seriousness as a whole. You might be hiring for a purchasing position, for example, and if you know the chain uses nomihoudai Drink Bar services, that'll put a different spin on the job responsibilities and so forth.

Yeah, unfortunately, this isn't a system change that can be as simple as an education-only shift. It logically follows that if people are pursuing their interests for study, then they should take jobs that align with their interests. If you continue to recruit people 'because they came from a good university' regardless of their personality and talent pool, you'll get recruits like that lovely 'alienated' fellow that stabbed his old professor just last month or so.

I see kids every day of varying seriousness in their study. Some bust their butts trying to do everything properly and learning a good working habit from it to boot. But others don't care and can't imagine being broke at 25, because their current lifestyles are pretty relaxed.

Of course, there are plenty of exceptions. But kids need a way to imagine their interests forming a career path.

This is the internet, Tahoochi, we have the space for small stories. And there's nothing like a bit of a safety scare for small children.

So, someone came in and started screaming about something we're not told about, and then the story ends.

    I love these stories.
