This "law" being signed doesn't make it right. Just as "laws" in countries that legalize forced marriages don't make them right.

The setting for the 1st one was completely wrong too. Even though it was filmed in the Caribbean (Dominica), its portrayal of Port Royal (Jamaica) was completely inaccurate. For example, there are no cliffs in Port Royal as it is at sea level.

Branded, other countries have been sending doctors and aid and have been turned back at the airport. The BBC is now reporting that a deal has been reached between the UN and US where the US decide to allow more slots for humanitarian flights, instead of the 60% humanitarian : 40% MILITARY that they have been allowing since taking over the airport.

When Hilary Clinton went to Haiti a few days ago, it was reported that the Coast Guard plane she landed in was to evacuate some US citizens and had several hundred meals for US embassy staff. Is that a priority for the Haitian people? Haiti is also a part of Caricom...*Caribbean Community) one thing that hasn't been reported is how other Caribbean islands have been responding and attempting to send aid.

One of the major telecoms companies in Haiti (Digicel) which has a big presence in neighbouring Jamaica, was attempting to fly in equipment which would expedite the recovery of the communications links that were damaged in the quake, but their flights were turned back. Isn't the restoration of communications also important?
Among others, I think that part of the US's reason for 'taking control of the situation' is to ensure that there is no mass exodus of boats trying to go to Florida as was the case many years ago.

Badsey, are you also implying that diplomats, embassies, UN peacekeeping mission and the presidential palace and a major hotel etc all build on a deck of cards...? This was a powerful earthquake. Plus, very poor people don't usually have the luxury of choosing from the best materials.
Oh, and lunchmeat, in 2 weeks you may forget about it but others won't.

Nothing will ever replace the experience of being able to turn the pages of a book that has you captivated. Also, just as long term use of pcs has a bad effect on one's eyes, so it will be with adding yet another source of glare caused by artificial background light on the screen.
I'm not interested in ever getting one of these, regardless of manufacturer.

By the way, I'm not trying to trivialize the issue since it's a serious one that needs to be addressed. The response needs more thinking through and must be practical.

If you have diarrhoea on a plane, I guess the safe answer when someone is knocking on the door is to ask one of the flight attendants to enter and verify that you are genuinely passing out the real stuff... Also, some nationalities' accents sound more aggressive to other person though they are not...maybe just frustrated at being forced to rush/hold back his bodily functions. It is a serious thing to consider though because millions of people travel daily and there will inevitably be someone(s) who have illnesses or whose actions are misinterpreted, especially by overly jittery persons. Also, on long-haul flights, most people wake up to go to the bathroom near the end of the flight. Another thing, it doesn't have to be the last hour of flight that someone does something destructive and it doesn't have to take more than a few minutes for them to be successful. Will persons be banned from using the bathroom at all then? or will there now be cameras in the toilets with a new airline "in-flight toilet camera monitor"?

then also when you're travelling and someone's baby needs changing and neither parent can go to change the diapers, that's gonna literally "raise a stink" too. I've been on a flight to Paris when that happened and it wasn't a good experience...

This article is incomplete. It was confirmed that the second person did have food poisoning. What should he have done? Throw up in his seat or have diarrhoea in his seat and smell up the plane as well as embarass himself?

Already, 1 day after the new rules, there is a case of a passenger being sick and the flight being met by police. What is going to happen when babies need to be changed and passengers are sick etc...
There will soon be many cases where planes are diverted because of overly trigger happy flight attendants and passengers. Watch this space!
