My wife is from Date and we have tried the ice cream from his shop a couple of times and it is very good. This will be a small bit of good news for the town. BurakuminDes is spot on. No major evacuations happened. Also, the local JA is testing all produce in the area and some crops are not being harvested if high cesium readings are found. Not sure about milk testing.

Heard about this from a real estate agent. He was recommending to buy an apartment close to where the station is planned as prices will be sure to rise when the news is released. Probably too late now.

@ Lunchbox. A clean up of J Rugby ain't going to happen unless they get rid of all the old farts that run the JRU. Even my friend who is one of these old farts thinks this. Make it professional at the top and then hopefully it will trickle down.
EJ is the best man for the job. He needs to stay on until 2019 if he is going to make any difference.

When the Japanese police start following the letter of the law, then the masses may follow. Every single cop on a bike that I saw on the weekend was breaking the law about riding on footpaths.

I am with BD on this. Tough headline! Most would think making a final in his first swim meet in 5 years in the weak for him IM, is a great comeback. He will only improve.

Lunchbox: It is Super Rugby that Japan will field a team in the next couple of years, so no trips to Argentina. Only NZ, RSA and Oz. You are thinking Quad Nations. EJ has big plans and will be the perfect coach for Japan.

Eddie will get the job. Expect a Japan based team team in the Super 15 in the next couple of years.

I use and like Radish Boya and this sounds great. My only peeve has been that you could not order on line and only by using their paper order forms. And the glossy magazine and many sheets of paper that they send every week that lists their products. Way too much.
@ kurisupisu: you can get a plan where the fruit and veges only comes from western Japan. That is what we have delivered every week.

Well done to those who raced on the weekend, especially the age grouper on Sunday. It was brutally hot and humid on both days and Tokyo Bay felt like bath water.

My father-in-law grows rice in Fukushima-ken 60km NW from the nuke plant. Harvest time will be in October and he does not even want to eat his own rice due to fears of radiation! The local JA office told farmers in the area just after the quake not to plant rice this year but then changed their mind and said go ahead and plant they will check it. But my father-in-law is not sure that his rice will be checked or not. No way I will eat the rice if it is ever passed as being okay.

For non-Japanese nationals, and if you are good enough, the residency requirement to represent Japan in any sport is three years plus an official release from your home country's sport's union or association. I know this as I am going to represent Japan myself in another sport next month at a world championships. Good on the rugger players for jumping through all the hoops!

I feel really bad for the parents and the dilemma that they face. Three weeks ago I was in Fukushima in a small town just north of Fukushima City and my friends there with kids are sadly resigned to their fate. They don't trust the government at all, and they don't have the money to pack up and leave or even suitable places to evacuate to. This is the J governments shame!
