Hugo Chavez eat your heart out! You ain't got nothin' on us.
FYI: Bush is only one of millions of culprits in this fiasco. By millions I mean not only the politicos on both sides of the aisle, not only the Wall Street risk-takers, but also all the Americans living beyond their means - you know, the kind of people who think a new credit card is a new source of income.

Are you just playing dumb are do you really have no idea?
OK I'll give you an idea. You're desire to change the definition and role of marriage in American society indicates that you feel that definition and role are arbitrary. If the definition and role are arbitrary then why should you attempt to limit the definition and role of marriage even as you seek to change it? You are inconsistent in your logic.
The naysayers bring up other non-traditional (to the U.S.) definitions of marriage to point out that by breaking with the current definition you make all others equally acceptable.
Now, why do I care? Because marriage isn't just an abstract concept or ideal, but has societal, legal, and financial consequences - all of which can affect me and my family.

Kind of makes me question why we evolved as two sexes rather than one being with both a penis and a vagina. It would sure simplify those diagrams of the human species that we radio out into space for the extra-terrestrials.
You are either illogical or bigotted. Why limit the number to two? Why exclude animals? Clearly, the institution of marriage isn't about the potential for procreating or being the basis of a family. So are you illogical or bigotted?
If 10% being gay means that the purpose of marriage should be changed to accomodate the 10%, then why don't you accept that many more than 10% of the male population would enter a polygamous union?
As for 1/3 attempting suicide, maybe their lifestyle has some serious flaws in it. Maybe the lifestyle doesn't lend itself to true fulfillment or happiness. Perhaps, in kindergartens of Massachusettes they should require teachers to not only read "My two fathers", but also to teach how to successfully commit suicide.

Hi,
My name is AnimalsAreMadeOfMeat.com. My twin brother is named HumansAreToo.com.
Visit our respective websites for great recipes on preparing fetal pigs and cadavers. The recipes range from the informal (Po Boy Sandwich) to the elegant (Dead Kennedies Wellington).

As you've stated before, we rarely agree, but I agree with you on the statement above.
It really takes two to tango: many covetous main streeters with a "give it to me NOW" mentality and many greedy Wall Streeters with a twisted sense of risk-reward ratios.
The sad thing is that those of us who didn't participate are the only ones left with something of value. So naturally, those in Washington ignore Constitutional limits and take from us to prop up the covetous and greedy. We get screwed for being fiscally responsible.
I wish the government would keep out - let it crash. I'm prepared right now to buy low. That's the reward I deserve for being prudent.

Not too sure about the euro, but CHF and Singapore Dollar together with some US$ is a prudent hedge for your cash. However, I think that paper is being devalued at a rapid pace right now, and I hope you also hedged some in precious metals.

Why shouldn't the U.S. own banks? After all, we can't allow Hugo Chavez to show us up can we?
I'd like to write a suspense-thriller novel about how a U.S. President was secretly injected with DNA from a South American, socialist dictator.

What's really obscene is that actors/actresses, musicians, athletes, and others get similar compensation for entertainment.
Don't get me wrong. Entertainment is big business, and I believe in free markets. What I think is obscene is that we are willing to pay such outrageous prices for tickets. All for entertainment.

I just love it when someone claims that one side of a business transaction, freely entered into, is "greedy". Don't both borrowers and lenders hope to gain something through their transaction? Aren't both equally greedy?

Actually, I was thinking rampant, unrestricted social programs coupled with open borders and sanctuary cities. Remember, "welfare state + open borders = bankruptcy".
Unfortunately, these states that have followed the proven path to ruin will get cheap money from the taxpayers of all other states via the federal government.

Perhaps Arnie should spend less time on the Presidential race and more time knocking heads together in the California legislature.
Has anyone noticed the first states begging for federal (i.e. other state's taxpayer's) money? California, Massachusettes, Michigan, possibly New York.
What do these states have in common politically? Anyone? Anyone?

How much more will this witch hunt cost us taxpayers?
My guess is that congress will spend millions identifying some sacrificial lambs. None of the blame will belong to the past several congressional terms or presidential terms, of course.
It's good to know that even in hard times our representatives can find a way to squander more money on frivolous finger-pointing (always away from themselves) without really addressing the underlying problems.

Best way I see to handle it is to not give that money to the federal government in the first place. Lower federal taxes and allow states to make more decisions locally.

McCain battling big business: I wonder if he'll still be as misguided as his Campaign Finance Reform acts were?
He seems to enjoy attacking symptoms rather than root causes.
The root problem of big business in Washington is Washington has too much power to affect businesses through tax incentives, loans, grants, and regulations. Washington plays preferences with specific companies and industries. Therefore, companies and industries lobby hard to make sure they're on the "preferred" side of Washington's power. Limit D.C.'s power and money and you'll find big business has much less interest in D.C.
Here's a quick real-world example:
Recently read an article where U.S. auto industry is lobbying for a $50 billion loan to develop "green" cars. Why lobby the federal government? Can't they issue corporate bonds or setup a loan package from some big banks? Of course not, would you bet your money with them? So instead, they'll get the loan from YOU via taxation.

That's some spooky thinking right there.
Supposing you're right (which I don't), don't you realize that any power claimed by Republican leadership now will also be wielded by Democratic leadership when they're in control.
What I see are two major parties that want more and more power centralized in Washington D.C. They only differ in who they want to advantage and who they want to penalize. At one time I was taught that the federal governments job was primarily to provide for the common defense of the states and to regulate commerce (provide a level playing field). Now we see all the industries turning to the federal government seeking advantages. We see politicians pandering to the ignorant masses in order to buy their votes.

No Sir!
I prefer to eliminate about 85% of the federal budget. No need to raise taxes.
Let's start by eliminating all forms of foreign and corporate welfare followed soon after by eliminating individual welfare.
