Sushi, The "screw up" as I see it is in bailing the companies out or injecting another red penny into these losers. The effect of allowing them to flop would be enormous, but all we've done now is to push the burden directly onto ALL U.S. citizens - not allowing the loss to fall on investors to these companies - both domestic and foreign.
I agree with Sarge that the downfall of Freddie and Fannie aren't attributable to Bush. These were doomed from the start as all U.S. federal government-backed social experiments.
How well are Social Security, Welfare, Medicare, Medicaid, Freddie, Fannie, etc. doing? All insolvent - we just keep issuing more debt to hand on the necks of our children.
Now where did I store that old guillotine? It's somewhere in my attic, I think.

And I find it interesting to see that you are able to extrapolate so much information from a few poster's on an obscure forum.

Madverts posts: Gonna go after him for that?"
I don't *get *this "argument".
Maybe you'd "get" his argument if you didn't leave off an important piece of context: McCain's "grin" that another poster was ridiculing.
I didn't take his argument to be anything more than the context in which he placed it.
As for "eligibility" to be President of the U.S. I am eligible based on the U.S. Constitution. Perhaps you mean something other than "eligible" in your post?

Skip,
I never heard of the JW's having a police force hired to enforce this behavior on their own believers or on non-believers. Can you see the difference?
Your own behavior is driven by some set of core beliefs. Whether those beliefs spring from an organized religion or some other source there shouldn't be a government-sponsored ban. You seem to advocate the flip-side of the Saudi coin. They want to dictate religious behavior by force, and you want to dictate secular behavior by force.

What a rare opportunity. I get to agree with both of you.
I'd like to see us stop attempting to defend and baby-sit the world - just focus on our own defense. I'd also like to see the federal government reduced to the powers granted it by the U.S. Constitution - no federally funded social programs including Dept of Education.
By combining both of your ideas we'd have a stronger defense, more personal freedoms, and be stronger financially.

It's a shame (and revealing about the fervor of the issue) that you even had to wonder about whether my comments were serious or not.
I guess Al Gore might be able to pull it off with a straight face.

I probably shouldn't have been so harsh. Many of them are just people in need and probably are greatful for the help and not abusing the situation.
There have been enough issues to sour me on the whole lot, but in my head I know it's not the whole lot.

Please take them back New Orleans. We've dealt with your citizens' problems enough in my small town.
You know the old saying, "Fish and visitors stink after three days." Well, imagine what it's like when the visitors already stink when they come and then they don't act like guests - but hooligans.

Guns are banned for mentally ill ex-cons. Apparently, he didn't obey the law. How dare him!
Common sense indicates that criminals will ignore bans on guns.

This is oversimplified as an analogy. I assume the Georgians would be pleased to let the Ossetians "leave". What they don't want is to have their land and natural and man-made resources "taken". I'm not taking sides here, but pointing out that it's not nearly as simple as you try to make it.

SushiSake posts,
***Sarah Palin is a 'hockey mum.'
Do any already hysterically desperate Republicans think a woman with kids (including one with Down's Syndrome) is ready to take on this huge responsibility?***
I'd guess you're not married with children. My wife is a better manager, doctor, teacher, and accountant than most "professional" managers, doctors, teachers, and accountants. I mean that honestly. You seriously underestimate the capabilities and experiences of a "soccer mom".
Statastician posts,
***One thing that kind of worries me.
If the unforseeable happens - how can you be President AND and effective mother for a very young handicapped child?***
The same way you could be President AND an effective father for a very young handicapped child.

It's about time Georgia got in line.
The War Between the States ended over 140 years ago. Why have they insisted until now on having their own diplomatic ties rather than allow the federal government to do so.
Geesh! Folks in Atlanta are so uppity.

Betzee,
Palin's (admittedly limited) experience is as an administrator in contrast to Ferraro's limited experience as a legislator.
It's pretty crappy overall that of the four people running for Pres and VP of the two major parties three are legilators (one with *very *limited experience) and one was an administrator of a town and then state with small populations. Who knows but that she could actually be the most effective? Though, honestly I'm very disappointed in the choices this time around.

He was pretty effective with his mocking. As I understand it the Belgian judge was actually in tears and begging him to quit.
A few specific examples of his mocking:
"You're the court of Nachos. I should cover you with cheese."
"Actually, you're the court of Natto... you know, the stinky, fermented soy beans eaten in Japan. Yeah, that's what you are! You stink!"
He was quite brutal.
