Estimated costs just to get the US to the **George Bush Iraq Retreat Date **of Dec 2011 come in around $840 billion - that's all money America doesn't have - pretty whacked if you ask me.
Agreed Sushi, and that is the kind of posts we need. Fair negatives about McCain are all good. Positives about Obama, though...I suppose I should post more of those myself. Its too easy to get sucked into the mudslinging match.

The man was simply saying we should stay in Iraq for as long as it takes to accomplish, well, whatever unclearly defined goals he has. I personally don't agree, but running around shrieking wildly with words taken out of context is hardly constructive. He did not actually mean 100 years, and you know that. He cites the simple fact that our military has been in Japan 60 years in the video.
Please leave the silliness to the Republicans this election.

See if you can find any posts of mine defending McCain.
I do have a problem with the typically Republican tendency to show solidarity in spite of everything along with a few other traits, but I do my best to remove reflexive reactions. What more can be expected? Is there some other Obama supporter here who has come to McCain's defense? Let it be known that I do have Republican friends, and I can keep them because I know when they have gotten into blind fighting mode and I know how to pull them back.
The trouble with a liberal position like giving credit where credit is due is that so many on the right will view that as a weakness and seek to exploit it, unless of course it is done by one of their own (solidarity over consistency/honesty, another trait common on the right that I do not like).

Yes. I would rather have the video, but I have seen enough geriatrics on bicycles early in the morning in Japan to know what kind of antics they pull. Even a lot of the youngsters are guilty, but that is usually more like 12 am to 2 am, rather than at dawn.
While we cannot say if the old man was at fault or not, we can say that even if he was, Kaneko would still get all the blame in Japan. No wonder they run.

I prefer Obama's simple anecdotes to your overblown hyperbole.
I often relay the story of how my own grandmother once protested "You are NOT going that party with that black girl!" It was a shock, because otherwise my granny was quite tolerant. But I chalk it up to the same small-minded reflex reaction that Obama was talking about. They are at the heart of racism, and if we fail to recognize them and subdue them, then we will be ruled by them. I am impressed that Obama can recognize these things in the human psyche, know it is natural, and still respect his granny as I do mine. It is always depressing however when people such as yourself do not have the intelligence to understand the meaning of his words and are reduced to focusing on snippets and misconstruing the whole thing, all the while strutting like you know something and spreading your ignorance with confidence only a village idiot can usually possess. Your ilk reduce the understanding of racial issues, and therefore tolerance also. Reflexive racism is perfectly natural. Suppression of it takes effort, and failures must be examined and corrected. If not, racial tolerance will always be a fleeting dream.

If his goal was to produce a chamber wide ROTFLMAO among the Japanese Diet, I suppose that would be about the best way to try and accomplish it. No way those snobs are going to take him seriously.

Kudos to moonbeams for a sensible post! If you read one post in this thread, read that one!
In response to McCain's words, no solution is perfect. But the U.S. needs less unilateralism and less maverick action. They need to start playing well with others again. America's cred is in the trash heap, and its going to take a president with ears as well as a mouth to get it back. And the greatest way to hold back terrorism is mutual respect and cooperation with allies. And that takes credibility. I believe Obama is the man for the job of getting American credibility back.
For those insulting McCain's war record: give it up. You are not doing Obama any favors with those sour grapes. McCain had a slow start to becoming a good pilot, granted, but he went on to successfully fly some very high risk missions over North Vietnam at a time when they were well equipped by the Soviets. He did not crash his plane before being captured, HE WAS SHOT DOWN WITH A SOVIET SURFACE TO AIR MISSLE. Okay? Don't say he crashed. That is just ignorant and stupid. I am sure McCain supporters already know this, and laugh at stupid comments like that. And don't even get me started on the U.S.S. Forrestal. Nor his refusal to take an offer to be sent home earlier than his fellow P.O.W.s. The man is a hero. You cannot swiftboat him. You cannot box him with a chickenhawk like Bush who crashed no planes only for lack of getting in them! You look a fool doing these things. Read up on McCain's history and let it go.

It would be really interesting to know how they caught him! Seems like it would require real police work, something that seems to be rare here.

If I sat in a public park, with a sign on my chest that said "Learn how to make a bomb here for free", should I be arrested even though I have nothing but pen and paper to teach how to make a bomb?
That is already murky enough, but if you are blaming 2CH for this, then you are not blaming me with the sign, but the owners and operators of that public park.
So what is next? Blaming God for crime, because if God had not created the world we live in, there could be no crime? No wonder this guy is ignoring the lawsuits! So would God!

If it turns out that Obama-Biden in the White House is a brain fart, the blame will be on the GOP. 8 years of mucking up America, only very forgetful Americans are going to go GOP this year. Many will vote anything but GOP, but thankfully, I don't think Obama-Biden are just anybodies. I think they will be plenty good enough.

More off-the-wall stuff from Ramen. He just wants to put Obama supporters on the defensive. Obviously Obama was best choice for the future. Biden is a great choice for many reasons, including expectations about how he can work with Obama himself.

In the context of a campaigner for president. But if you can name me a former black presidential hopeful who was clean (in the political sense, of course, no matter how much you want to twist it), articulate (in the sense that you knew what he was talking about, not just how smooth he talked), plus the other descriptions like bright and nice-looking, well be my guest.
I took the statement to mean that Obama is the first black presidential hopeful with an actual shot at the presidency. I tend to agree, and I have since well before the primaries were over.

LFRAgain,
I have several posts here. If you had looked at them, you could have saved yourself a lot of typing. I said I would disqualify China if they were found to be cheating, despite how much I think the rules suck.
I wonder if you realized the inherent flaw of that position just after striking the enter key? Of course rules can be unfair even if all are held to them equally! That is one reason why rules change over time despite the fact that they were applied equally to all! I find this rule unfair to every Olympic minded gymnast on the planet. Therefore, my underwear does not bunch when the rule gets broken.
Yes, you are free in a sense. You do so at your own risk however, but I will salute your civil disobedience so long as you were not going too fast. This rule infraction is equally minor, as the rule itself is just as silly. And change often comes from below in just this manner. The IOC and the judges are notoriously blind.
I said young age was an advantage, not the holy grail. Oksana is hardly the norm. Consider that one of the Chinese athletes can no longer perform a move she perfected and is even named after her. She has been unable to do it since puberty.

McCain has made similar pledges, he is 4 years older than Biden, and has 36 years congressional experience to Biden's 45 years. And what was he doing those other nine years? Why serving with the orignal good 'ol boys, the military wing of the military industrial complex, where he helped get funding for a new supercarrier behind the backs of the Carter admin!
Too funny!
But I don't think either story blocks either side from instigating true and fair reform. Its still a question of which side you trust to do it.

undecidedbout08, thank for video of incomplete statements matched with incomplete details. It shows exactly how so many Republicans like thier politics pre-packaged in (seemingly) easy to absorb snippets.
Biden said he did not feel Obama is ready now (handily parapharased) but could be (in the future). No date given for the statement. Well, apparently Biden feels Obama is ready now, as he is standing right next to him! Yes, things do change over time (as much as conservates would like to stop time). If he got some information that made him feel Obama is now ready, then the proper course of action is to react to it, not pretend that time has stopped and he is stuck in the past.
I would however like to know exactly what changed his mind. I can't help but feel that was edited out.
But the last part was the best. You just got love it when the propoganda makers choose to cut a man's sentence in half, as if we are all so busy that we only have time for a 32 second campaign ad and no more! "I would be honored to run with or against John McCain because I think the country would be better off....." Better off what? With McCain rather than Obama? Is that what he said? Nope. Here is the rest of the statement, the bit the Republican party held back from your ears: "...be well off no matter who…". The statement ended there. He never got to finish because he was cut off.
Is this the straight talk express??? I always liked McCain's calls for staight talk, but I am afraid his campaigners did not get the message.

We know that now. Nobody knew that going in.
I count 3 gold won by Chinese women for gymnastics, and seven medals total so far, but I am not sure if all of them are in controversy.
In retrospect, you are correct that China may have damaged its image for a paltry haul of gold, but I say again, nobody knew that going in. It could have happend that China led by only one medal as easy as 15. And having got only 3 gold out its woman gymnasts all only backs up my point that that was the best team they could put together.
On a side note, Chinese men owned gymnastics. 8 gold for 9 men's events! A Polish man managed to get the single remaining gold.

You don't know what was smoked in the pipes or even where it was smoked. Just because the pipes are at JSA property proves niether.
However, he has admitted to possession (if he knew what was in those Russion cigs, and we don't know he did). This is enough for JSA to let him go. But that is not to say that I agree with them in doing. They have the right, but they are still wrong in my opinion.
