At noon today the vernacular news reported "smoking implements" (like a water pipe) were found during a search of Waka no Ho's residence (he lives outside the stable as befits his rank). He appears to be a dedicated pothead.

You probably have no idea what is smoked in a hookah. Until the ash in the burn bowl is examined, or he admits to using it for marijuana, you have no business assuming its weed.

Surely it must be a strange behavior in western countries.

Yes. I usually try to find the owner and hand it to them myself. We don't trust cops in the west. If they are not trying to get your for pick-pocketing in such a situation, they are trying to nail the other guy for little MJ. Its too bad the cops could not be satisfied with the ID card, and had to go through the whole darned wallet.

Assuming these girls are underage, take a minute and consider where their skills will be in four years. They are only going down hill from hear. Its silly to keep them out when they are at their peak. In fact, its dangerous to them.

I'm talking about the overall medal count, Sean.

That too would be less. Given other gymnasts, there is no guarantee they would have even scored a bronze in all those gymnastics competitions, and there were several.

The people who say that the age limit of 16 is unfair anyway are totally missing the point.

Not at all. If they are not 16 then their scores should be made unofficial. I know most would take the medals away, but I would let the girls keep the medals, congratulate them on their perfomances and simply remove their wins from the record and pass out new medals to the new winners. I see no reason to punish the girls for what the adults have done.

But calling a silly rule silly is hardly missing the point. There can be no greater point when such a silly rule gets violated. That is because until the rule is changed its just going to keep happening forever. We have our eye on the future, no just today.

Great to see all the Liberals squirm. Hee Hee!

If you see squirming, then you have quite the imagination. What I see is acceptance of Biden as a good choice of running mate.

Obama has flip-flopped on the Iraq war

How do you figure that??? It would be more apt to say Biden has flip flopped on Iraq, but still misguided. In truth, Biden has flip flopped on his confidence and trust in the Bush admin, just like anybody with any sense.

The Bush admin swore there were WMD in Iraq. Have they flip flopped? Or do they still insist there are WMD in Iraq?

Being as "flip-flopped" is one of a Republican's favorite words, I would think you would learn to use it accurately by now. Adjusting one's course to cope with new information and realities is not flip-flopping, and I suspect you have misapplied the term with most of the accusations you made, and not just about the Iraq war. But anwser my first question, because its about the most ridiculous accusation you have made.

I admit to taking perverse pleasure in watching those who voted for GWB twice rail about Obama's lack of experience. It's clearly a selective concern, especially since the current occupant has gaps in his work history while Obama does not.

    Betzee, excellent backhand.

There are reasons age rules are in place, the most obvious being of course the harm that can come to a child’s physical development when pressed to perform in competitions of this caliber.

Wrong. Its not the competitions. Its the training. The rule will not change the ages that training begins in this sport. Therefore, it is pointless.

Should it be acceptable for a 20-year old athlete with greater physical strength and experience to play in under-12 youth-league football simply because he has a chance to bring his team to victory?

You are glossing over the fact that the under 12 league was not meant to be the pinnacle of achievement.

The most pathetic thing is that China didn't need to cheat, and it would have got more respect for playing fair than for winning.

Are you kidding? China put forth their best and in at least one competition it took a wonky tie breaker for them to beat out Nastiya. They most certainly did have to have the team they put together to get those medals.

The IOC needs to realize this age restriction is unfair to the gymnasts. It throws their best years down the toilet.

Prefectural law sets the age of consent at 18. That is why he was arrested. If he paid or not is pure speculation at this point, as the article does not say he was arrested or charged with the specific violation of paying a minor for sex.

Not just Japan. Its common enough everywhere. And the desires are just about universal and exist on both sides.

I do think that it's hypocritical for a country that obviously promotes pedophilia everywhere

    It most certainly does not.

    A five day rape.

No. The article does not say she was raped for five days straight, or even a number of times. It says the rape occurred on one of those five days. Maybe she cannot remember which.

Police said Hirai threatened the woman after she began to doubt his spiritual powers.

I take that to mean that no sexual relations occurred except for this one time he coerced her by threating her. That is rape.

She works at a sex shop

The article says she works in a sex related business. Could be a lot of things, including things I would not consider to be sex related, like an escort service or a hostess club.

On video repeatedly saying obama does not have the experience to be president

It seems he just gained some experience!!

On video saying the country would be better off with John McCain and not obama as president

link or direct quote please. We are all aware of your wonky parapharasing.

Biden can't help swing even 1 southern state and in fact kills obama's chances in the southern states that might have been in play.

I am more worried about computerized voting machines. We know which party they are programed and moved about to favor. Its the party of Diebold. We all know what will happen in Florida especially.

Biden, the man that never could break 5% of the vote within his own party when he ran for president.

Just because he did not do well in the popularity contest does not mean he is not fit. If you are going to now say its all about the popularity contest, then I remind you that you legitimize Obama.

On video saying Obama was a clean and articulate black man.

Link or direct quote please. Again I suspect wonky paraphrasing.

One reason GWB is still alive today is because of who would replace him if he died in office. Obama choosing a white man as VP is sort of like painting a target on the back of his head if he wins the presidency. But I hope I am wrong.

Rules are great and everything, but its necessary to have rules that are workable, enforceable and that make sense. This 16 year old age requirement meets none of those tests for this sport.

Gymnastics is a seriously dangerous sport, so I understand the desire to make sure the athletes are mature enough to make the decision to participate. But all this rule does is keep the youngsters from participating in the Olympics. It will not prevent them from training at the young ages they already do, and that is where most of the serious injuries occur anyway. The age at which training starts simply cannot be increased without lowering the level of the sport and actually making it more dangerous for gymnasts as the younger one starts the more proficient they can become. So that won't be done no matter what age rules these competitions have.

Also, consider the fact that puberty seriously affects a female gymnast's performance for the worse. A few years after 16 and they are finished. That means that they will usually get one, and only one shot at the gold with this rule! Its silly. These girls train for most of their lives, and you give them only one shot! Of course countries are going to break this rule! It used to be the girls had two or three good shots and could compete during their peak, which was before 16. You cannot try to just take that away and expect perfect compliance.

The age rule only encourages cheating and disrespect for the rules, while providing next to nothing that is positive. It should be abolished, at least for this sport.

but why bother mate..because what you had the first time round was meaningless.

An idealist like this will always be disappointed in life. We all have some secrets and have told some lies. It does not make our relationships meaningless.

Affairs may not be for everyone, but forcing an idealistic one-size-fits-all outlook on everyone is certainly going to leave a lot of people disappointed and dissatisfied with life.

why not spend some of this time talking with your wife..you may just remember why you married her in the first place.

I do talk with my wife. And I do remember why I married her. And I do love her. She is my best friend. She is just not my only friend and I don't feel the need to limit myself like that. But I on the other hand, I am also far from a social butterfly in this or any other aspect.

And FYI, most of my posts here are about the word "furin", not defending myself. You are grasping at straws with that as well your childish corruption of my user name. What has gotten under your skin? Too much fidelity?

McCain is SO focused on continuing a war without end, then exactly what part of God's Commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill" does he not undersrtand???

Does't fly. You just have just quoted the Old Testament, which is full of God himself ordering violence on both a large and small scale. He apparently does not understand his own commandment, so we cannot expect more of McCain. Better to stick to the New Testament, but even that can be problematic.

The most bizarre comment to come out of the whole thing is by Lin's father who: “still cannot believe his daughter has become an international singing sensation.” He doesn't seem to realize that to be a singing sensation, you need to actually sing . . .

Maybe he is well aware of the fact, hence his disbelief? Who knows what the politiburo is telling him.

For all those who think this man's protest was inappropriate, I have to ask, what would you like?

Immediately after the match, his behaviour was confrontational, but no real violence occurred. I find it debatable, but forgive him as it was after a violent contest, and especially if he truly was ripped off.

At the ceremony though? Totally peaceful and tasteful protest there (despite the outrageous headline for which JT should be utterly ashamed. Did they mean "throw away"???) This is the only way the guy can protest and get any attention to that protest. Filing papers in the backroom won't do anything. I am always happy to see people stand up and refuse to be a chump for authority, especially if they do it peacefully. Even if he is wrong about the call, he has done nothing wrong. NEVER give up your or another's right to protest, or be labeled a complete fool.

And the judges and many at the IOC are regular drama queens. The guy can't be stripped of a medal he disposed of himself. The term is that the medal was rejected or refused. Its not rocket science. His peaceful protest insulted none but the judges and the IOC, and their trying to extend the insult to others is another mark of a drama queen. And if he is banned for his protest, that is also the work of a drama queen who can't take criticism.

Great comments by flammenwerfer and Naruki Oni. This guy has my support. The IOC needs to buck up and find the testicular fortitude to take criticism and tolerate peaceful protests.

A recent poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press found that 12 percent of respondents believe the Democrat is Muslim.

Revealing the number of Americans completely out of touch with reality. 12 percent and they still have not figured this out? The question should be asked to people attempting to vote, and if the answer wrong, should be sent packing.

While many of McCain’s views, including opposition to abortion, match the outlook of conservative Christians, he is far less comfortable than Obama talking about religion.

During the Saturday forum, McCain tended to give shorter, less complex answers, winning somewhat more applause than Obama from the large, evangelical church’s audience.

Showing us a church with a lot of religious but stupid people, even with regard to thier own religion. I wonder how much of Obama's clearly worded and intellecual religious statements just went right over their little heads?

McCain gets more applause, and the reasons are pretty obvious. McCain is more Christian by the default of simple minds, no matter how much Obama proves that he is actually the more religious.

McCain, asked to name the toughest decision in his life, cited his refusal to be released ahead of fellow U.S. prisoners of war in North Vietnam.

You got to hand it to McCain. Good and true answer and proof that he puts his fellow Americans ahead of himself, unlike the current administration.

I just want to know how Obama answered this question.
