I despise war criminals no matter their origins. The topic just happens to be these Japanese ones. I also despise war in general. I want no credence given to war criminals nor war, nor do I want them glorified. However, I accept the honouring of war dead because they remind us all of what happens when war breaks out, and that is that a lot of people get dead.
Those hung for war crimes however deserve no respect nor honouring. They should be remembered for the sake of detering war and those who would start them.
In short, I am critical because I don't want Japan to revert to past militaristic ways, I want them to retain their pacifist image for their own sake and as an example to the world.
And let us make one thing absolutely clear. To criticize Yasukuni is not to criticize Japan. Japan is not agreement about Yasukuni, no matter what the government and its ministers do or say.
I have to take issue with this too. Japan's image is on the line, and us foreigners are excellent advisors on how this issue affects Japan's image.
And if we are going to talk about what is and what is not someone's business, need I remind you that it was those men who rampaged across Asia and with the Allies that crossed that line first? The Allies had to come over here and stomp Japan to get them to stop and get to those responsible. It most certainly is our business if they start worshipping them again, at least as far as discussions of the topic go.
And last, peace and maintaining peace is the obligation of every human being on the planet. If start saying that matters which trigger and foster wars are internal business only, we will pay with a lot more wars. Every human on the planet deserves a say about this.

Easily remedied. You have four options: a) claim it was junk mail. If you are erasing that stuff frequently anyway, you are well above suspicion. b) Fill the space up mail from your own PC mail account. You can mail yourself pictures, or reminders of dates or other information. You can even set up a fake account and mail yourself junk mail. c) get a friend or friends to mail you as many times as necessary d) present the nosey ball and chain with divorce papers, because if she so snoopy and paranoid that she is bothering you about the size your inbox, even more intrusive and unreasonable behaviour is just around the corner. Get out while you can.

Well, I see no reason to take such stabs at me. I have provided a link showing how the word has changed in Japanese. I gathered from it that the meaning was originally simply "immoral" a word that certainly can be associated with adultery, but is not limited to that meaning by any means. Today, however, in Japan, if you say "furin" at all it seems the chief meaning is "adultery". And that change is far newer than the English use of "fling" for adultery, and it came about during the English boom.
My theory would seem less likely if you can prove that it had that singular meaning in China and Korea for a much longer time, but I look at the Chinese characters for the word, and I have serious doubts it was ever that singular in meaning. The general meaning of "immoral" is backed up in my wife's electronic dictionary, which says quite clearly it is the general meaning, ie simply "immoral", as I said. To clearly say "illicit love affair" it is: furin no koi. So says Mr. Seiko Denshijishou.
If you have proof of the Korean and Chinese angle, please link us up.

I believe every other sentence I wrote here clearly stated "if". The one you picked might be vague, but note that it says "is" not "was". I have no idea how it was found out. But I find the the omission of that fact suspicious on the part of the press. Could be an accident of stupidly not asking the relevant questions, but could also be an attempt to generate more stink.
Beauty is a general subheading under which "cute" rests. I only made the statement because to say "cute voice" would have been strange. But in a general sense, children can be beautiful too, so I don't see any purpose to take issue saying so, except cultural bias.
False. They told a little girl her voice wasn't good enough. Either that or they never told her directly, but told organizers and got the program changed. I have not read anything about either girl being upset about the situation.
I don't think you appreciate the fact that Miaoke already had the part. If you pulled her out completely, it could have been devastating, as it would have been last minute. So either they just go with Miaoke as is, or have the girls collaberate. I have no problem either way if they are up front about the collaberation. I don't think they were up front, but I have no proof.

Then I guess I am a jerk! Zenigata2's story is a good reason why I think it is ok to give such advice. I am not pushing anyone down the path of infidelity, but if they are going to do it, they may as well do it right. Personally, I think a responsibly handled affair (and sometimes secrecy equals a responsible handling) is far less damaging to individuals and society than divorce. In fact, for some, a fling or two is just the think to keep them healthy and happy in the marriage, and keep them responsible parents to their children. Maybe Zeni has strong reasons to stay in the marriage but needs relief? Try to think outside of childishly simple views of right and wrong every once in a while.
It is just as easy to dream that he is all yours forever when he clearly isn't as it is when the odds are good he isn't. Those are generally your choices, because you may get divorced or he may have cheated.
I suggest enjoying the moments in life you are given, and the special people you can when you can, but be selective. All your post has given me is the impression that it is not so much the man that gives you pleasure and fulfillment as your imagined hold on him. I can't express clearly enough what a turn off that is for me and how shallow and short-sighted I find that outlook. I prefer to love people for who they are rather than what they can give me.

mojibake, I may have been hasty in my first post, but the classroom of life has taught me that such coincidences are extremely rare. I have researched and provided a link showing that the meaning of the word underwent a huge and specific shift in the 1980's to match a similar sounding English word exactly. All you have done is criticized a spelling error.
Just give it up already and admit that my hasty assumption had more merit than yours.

But I note that the meaning of the word changed in the early 80's from simply "immoral" to the English "fling". I submit that this was due to the influence of English, and some clever person saw the similarity and made the twist. I am sure entymologists will debate it for years to come.

As supporting evidence I submit all those Japanese girl names that have kanji but sound mysteriously foreign and are relatively new, like Rina, Erika, Risa, Mari, etc. Some might actually be coincidence, but my understanding is that many are not.

And that means that they were attracted to one party, repelled by the other, or a combi of both. But it still stands that the Democrats are known for being more multi-racial than the Republicans. That simple fact carries no blame. Blame may or may not be warranted however.

Is this statement so incorrect or unfair? I have heard that most American blacks tend to vote Democrat, and that when black votes are quashed, Republicans tend to win, if you can call that a victory.
How many black or mixed race presidential candidates have the Republicans fielded? The Democrats? Its all in the numbers. Just dont place blame on one party and think you have solved everything. People have gravitated to a party because of the issues just as much or more than they have been rejected because of race. Basically non-white Democrats are there because they chose to be.

Glad we got that cleared up nutsagain. That makes the "they are honoured for serving the emperor" excuse as leaky as a sieve.

Sorry if I had worded strongly. I simply feel it is wiser to empasize the fact that they are not war dead, rather than emphasize the fact that they are war criminals, as you are doing.
While we are saying much the same thing, it is easy to get sidetracked on issues such as the specific nature of the war crimes and the fairness of the tribunals given your emphasis. Mine nips it all in the bud. They are not war dead. Therefore, they do not deserve to be honoured as such. The fact that they are war criminals only makes it worse.
Agreed. The old noodle does not seem to be up to speed today. Just take what I say as a suggestion for handling future arguments about this. Focusing on the fact that the convicted war criminals are not war dead and tarnishes the image of the true war dead is something I find more easily agreed upon.

Point taken. I should have absorbed that better before writing the above.
So we agree. The war dead and the executed should not be mixed.

You dont bother to read other posts unless they are directed at you? Not smart.
But perhaps I was unfair to single you out. There is a lot of disagreement and misunderstanding here.
Over one thousand of the people enshrined at Yasukuni are not war dead. They were executed after the war. Contemplate that for a while.
Removing their names would be a simple matter, as they are not war dead. Removing all the alleged war criminals who actually are war dead is a far more sticky matter, and I see no reason to go into it. I feel that is the issue you should focus on. Maybe its what you meant all along? Still, this needs to be stated clearly. All but guaranteed that every nation honouring war dead have a war criminal or two in there. But who mixes war dead and the executed for war crimes? Only Japan as far as I know.
The excuse is that they served the emperor. I wonder how the emperor felt about honoring those who served him so poorly?

kudos to Harsan ronyo for coming up with some ideas. Its not as simple as a)allow or b)ban.
Texting should be allowed at all times. Talking could be permitted at certain intervals, provided the user is speaking in a normal volume. Yeah, I know that still annoys some people who cannot bear to hear a voice near them without being a part of the conversation, but I am confident those people will grow up one day.

If you never used it for anything, then suddenly use it furiously in front of your wife, then yes. The key is to text your friends a lot and also the mistress. Further, you have to scrub your phone of information, use the secret mode, and keep it locked.
Another clever but expensive option is have a secret cell phone.
Welcome to English 101. Its called a fling.

pathat, it seems you either did not read my last post, or it did not sink in. The question of whether some enshrined at Yasukuni are war criminals or not is not good enough by itself. One reason is simply because there is reason to doubt that status. If a soldier died during the war, he deserves some recognition. The question of whether to take away that recognition because of war criminal status could go on and on.
But those hung after the war are not war dead. That fact is supremely important. They are enshrined at Yasukuni for having lived (and died) in service of the emperor. Until their enshrinement is revoked, the government should have nothing to do with Yasukuni, and no serving minister should deign to visit. I do not mind members of the government honouring war dead, but the war criminals hung after the war are not.

Trouble is, they died at the end of a noose well after the war. Making them out to be war dead is making them into martyrs.
Had they never been tried and instead died of old age, they never would have been enshrined at Yasukuni, just like every other ex-military survivor of the war.
I absolutely agree. But it changes nothing. Those guys are still scum being martyred. Their hangings were too good for them considering the hell they unleashed across Asia. They deserved no less than Unit 731 treatment, to be turned into maruta, right along with Shiro Ishii who got off scot free.
They sure as heck do not deserve to be honoured the way other ex-military are not.

Nonsense. Most Japanese hardly think of the flag at all, let alone associate it with anything in particular outside of it being the flag of Japan. You give most Japanese too much credit.
Its obvious whose history books you have been reading!
Actually, it was the survivors of the war that brought peace and prosperity to Japan.
Those who died fighting should be honoured. Those who died at the gallows should not. That is the trouble with Yasukuni. They honour war criminals alongside those truly deserving hommage.

Was that having a boyfriend, taking pictures with him, posting pictures on the internet, or getting hacked??? I have no idea what they want to say.
I can only hope that Miss Kikuchi will succeed brilliantly and this anonymous agency will feel the burn for this seemingly "immature" decision on their part.
