If teachers always acted like a suicide was imminent, they would never get anything done. This serious of events is rare.
Its always sad when a young person slips through the cracks. But before we take his side in the matter, let us remember that it seems he was the one that caused the trouble in the first place. It is quite likely he is the boy who cried wolf.
It is also possible that the students he insulted deserved every word and then some. They may have bullied the boy. Naturally, there is no evidence of that, but plenty of evidence of the resulting insults on the net. The teachers are not reincarnations of Sherlock Holmes, so they probably blamed the boy straight off.
We will never know. But I hardly think its productive to blame the teachers on a suicide note alone. I would sooner blame the parents. They should have been the most aware of the situation. If they failed him so badly, what could the teachers have done?

Didn't see it. What I did see though was a Korean get beat in Judo by a guy from one of the break-away Soviet Republics. While the Korean was on all fours, the winner sat on him like a horse and raised both hands in victory. I cant imagine Phelp's victory yell could have been half as annoying or humiliting to anyone as that. I suggest a new question of the day.

So you think people should be killed because you are sick of it?
I am sick of it too. But violence is not the way to end it. Violence is the way of getting more people dead.
Do you know why Saddam talked like that? Hint 1: America was not Saddam's only worry. Hint 2: Saddam had a certain hostile neighbour, to whom he thought it best to show no weakness.

Four days and a hundred posts. And that with the U.S. presidential election in three months and the Olympics on right now and even a near war in Georgia. Another thing you don't seem to understand is that Mr. Edwards confessed, and that always numbers the days of a story like this.
I am sorry, but your please pity the Republican party plea has fallen on deaf ears.
I agree in a small way that a conservative would get a bit more coverage. But that is what happens when you are a member of the party that touts itself as being the moral party, and you do something immoral. The other guy is not going to get it as hard. If Republicans dont like the situation, they can back off their morality stance or weed out the immoral types better.

I would go so far as to say shame. If I go there, it will think of that so much I will most likely forget to notice the "beauty" of the LEDs.
No. That will depend on how the power was generated. It was probably nuclear, and no climate change associated. I doubt even the same power used for just 3 or 4 LED traffic lights was used anyway. Must be thousands of those in Tokyo, running 24 hours every day of the year. And LEDs use less power than old fashioned bulbs. Even with this park addition to city power, I think we are still saving many yen.

The incident might be only slightly older than McCain's affair, but I did not mention it because A) its unknown to must, unlike current events, B) it was not on my mind at the time.
Now that you mention it, I condemn it. It was a terrible, terrible precedent, even worse than the one the U.S. congress set with regards to Iraq. And I will condemn FDR as well because it seems he had plenty of foreknowledge of an imminent Japanese attack in 1941. Are you happy, or must I punch another Democrat for you?
National affairs and national lies mate. Your personal life means nothing to me. And while the sex life of Mr. Edwards also means nothing to me, it has been dragged onto the national stage, and I feel obligated to condemn those who did so. I also feel the need to put it all into perspective by showing lies that mean something, as opposed to this lie, that means nothing. Being shocked at the lies about sex of Mr. Edwards is pure idiocy, as is to not be shocked by the lies about war told time and again by American presidents. A guillotine should be prepared for the war liars, yet we waste time on Mr. Edwards??????

kinniku,
Mate, they have been spouting tripe like that for decades! Its all bluster!
Please remember Saddam and his empty bluster. He talked talked talked, but he wasnt holding any cards, remember? The Iranians also do not have the cards to do what Ahmadinejad is blabbling about. Its just a circus for the people of Iran, who I suspect are barely listening anyway.

South Ossetia also has its borders. And the majority of people of that area dont want to be part of Georgia. Either one supports self determination, or one does not.
I really do not see the problem with letting South Ossetia go, except the meaness of a child.

If that has any truth, then it would only prove that a significant part of the American population is nutty as fruitcake. The degree to which the Republican party has been debased by the many Republicans of the current American government is absolutely, totally, and in all other ways completely disproportionate to the lie and affair of Mr. Edwards and how they reflect on the Democratic party. Lunatics should not have the right to vote!

Sailwind, I was responding to the contention that (only) Democrats lie. In my non-partisan world, they both lie. I admit Edwards lied. But if we put that particular lie into perspective, its nothing. Truly nothing. I do not care about Edward's cheating. I do not care about McCain's cheating. I do care a great deal about war though, and I would blast any government that lied to get war, Republican or Democrat.
In short, I dont give a hill of beans about the party. Its the issues. If my view of the issue matches those of a political party, its purely coincidental. My views do not shift to match the party. Not now, not ever. I universally dont give a fig about a politician having an affair, and I universally condemn violence and war, especially when the politicians lied. You only see partisanship because you want to. Is this crystal clear to you now?

As far as I know, Obama never cheated on his wife. So why does Edwards support Obama?
But I am giving credence to your mad notion that a man and a whole political party can be judged by one bloke who supports him or them!

This old woman has a good point:
She seemed confused by the conflict. “The Georgians say it is their land,” she said. “Where is our land, then? We don’t know.”
The land belongs to the individuals who hold it. Then they choose their government. This process should not work in reverse, except in some very particular circumstances that I dont see here. A majority of South Ossetians do not want to be part of Georgia. So Georgia can never control South Ossetia without slaughtering or displacing a majority of South Ossetians. There is simply no good reason to do that to people, only bad ones.

Betzee, it wont cost the leaders anything, not their lives nor their treasure. If they dont profit from the other bloke's gold, they will use the situation to profit from their own country's. If the American elected officials can do it, then its going to be 3x easier for the Russian oligarchy.
I still have to agree with Superlib that the Georgian move was stupid. Even if the Georgian goals are all met, it was still stupid. War is stupid. People who get others killed for land and cash are stupid. They may be clever in certain ways, but they are stupid in a fundamental way, as only the selfish and greedy can be.

Many excellent posts here. I disagree with the uyoku on most things. But what really makes me detest them is their threats and their lust for violence, particularly when directed against pacifists. They only lose credibility in my eyes by responding to a peaceful protest like a bunch of cavemen. They also have a pathetic desire to get attention, only made more pathetic by their childish groping to get it. USNinJapan2, that is probably why they play the Star Spangled Banner and the Godzilla theme, as another mentioned. Its just to get attention, and maybe also for image. But then, it is mistake to think two sides are always diametrically opposed. I dont think the uyoku are anti-American in all or even most things.
I was thinking the uyoku were being protected from themselves!
I do think the sayoku need to clean up their message though. Yasukuni itself is not the problem. Its the enshrinement of war criminals that started in the 1970's that is the problem. They need to be clear about that. Yasukuni only plays into their hands, because it shows how many die for a failed war. Therefore, it is clear proof of the value of peace.

I was thinking it was more of a reluctance to pander to basic animal emotions via simplistic soundbytes, something I notice you do quite well. You and yours recognize the weakness of most people's minds and relentlessly exploit it. People dont seem to be getting smarter or more fair, so I suppose I cant think too badly of you for doing it. But its still low and non-condusive to the truth.

Wow! I have not had a discussion with a bloke who refused to listen this much in a while. Its always a surprise. I made my non-paritisanship quite clear in viewing the situation of both men as being the same. But if you insist on imagining it, I dont think I can stop your fixation.
But if someone else reading this thinks you have any sort of a point, I will point out that while I dont have a problem with either man on this subject, its the Republican who has a strong chance to be the next American president.
