I am really happy about this. The media finally is leaving her alone, and I think that is what is allowing her to play her game. If Japan's press would just back-off of Ishikawa, he might be able to win a few tournaments in the States too. Congratulations Ai-chan.

According to a family member, Hiroshi Hamada, the man who was killed, had a one-year-old daughter. Very sad, and I hope this guy goes away for a long time. I also hope Mazda will take care of the family of the deceased.

Please build a Burger King in Hiroshima too. There are a lot of people who want to visit Burger King, but can't justify the shinkansen ticket to Tokyo to do so. Same goes for Krispy Kreme...

It's great for me, since I used to have to go via LA or SF to get to Seattle from KIX. On the other hand, I also used to use the direct NWA flight to Detroit to connect to a flight to Jacksonville, FL to see my Dad. That Detroit flight is now gone. I would've thought the direct flight to Detroit was a moneymaker for NWA, now Delta, but maybe since the auto industry in the US is in such dire straights, not as many people are going there. Oh well, plenty of other airlines out there that want my money...

They are OK. Cheesy taste on sticks of a potato-like stick. Lot of cheese snacks out these days. I can remember when it was hard to find cheese, other than processed cheese, in the supermarkets here. There is a lot more available now, thank God.

Hey, there aren't any GLAVIA photobooks on the list. Not many of those need Japanese to understand them. I don't think "Treasured Collection of Beautiful Women in Bakumatsu, Meiji, Taisho - Rare photographs of Japanese women taken before 1925" would count, though in the day it might have.

Notchi is doing fine, he still does Obama from time to time, but as TSRnow said, he now has a "reality show" gag going. There seem to be a lot of comedians who are submissive husbands these days. Probably because when times are bad, the wife has to support the family. Maybe Mr. Tsurumi will do the same, if he's married. Wait, I got it! He can play Hatoyama as a submissive husband to the woman from Venus!

He will be remembered for his failures, unfortunately, most people are. I think he tried too hard to placate too many people/groups. The time spent trying to listen to everyone's opinion before making a decision, caused the delays and some of the bad hatily made at the last minute decisions. I am glad that the DPJ ousted the LDP, and I hope that Hatoyama's attempts to fix the LDP's mess will continue with the new PM. I think that Kamei and his party, and the Socialist Party both caused more than one headache for the DPJ. (Not to mention Mr.Ozawa!) I wonder if the Socialist Party will be a part of the next coalition government...

Maybe it's just the picture JT is using, but is that thing butt-ugly or what? Where is the Sony design that we used to idolize?

For all the nay-sayers, at least Hatoyama is trying to do something about the problem, unlike the previous administration. I'm not saying he did a good job, but at least he's trying. This could be said for some of the other changes he promised. He is trying, but the old LDP policies are so entrenched, change, if there is any, will be slow and painful. Really hope they do a good environmental impact study on the area they are planning to use. I still don't think they should fill in the sea. It's just not right.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but why can't parents these days tell their children no? I totally agree with cleo here, it's not McDonald's or MOS or any other fast food restaurant's fault, it's the responsibility of the parent. I also agree that kids have to be more active. If the kids have computer games, etc., then limits should be set. X number of minutes each day, after homework is finished, etc. If this is done from the beginning it's a lot easier, but these things can still be introduced. When I was a kid, going to fast food was a special treat, not a daily or weekly trip. I preferred the "evil" Burger King burgers to the "evil" Ronald (or Donald in Japan) burgers. Whatever. Bottom line, it's the parents' responsibility.

She was walking home with her friend and her friend's mom. The article is a little ambiguous saying that she was separated from her friend's mom. They were all walking together, but according to a TV news report, the victim was the last to enter the house, and that was when she was attacked. Also, neighbors did come out of their houses and stop her, and try to help the girl, while the woman just stood there staring. I feel sorry for the victim and her friend and friend's mom. Terrible case. The woman will probably just go to a mental hospital for a few years. and hopefully to get the help she needs.

I remember when a friend of mine was staying with a homestay family here in Japan and they brought out coffee jelly for dessert proudly saying, "We have coffee jelly, just like in America!" In all my years in America, I can't remember ever having seen coffee jelly. I will probably try one of these on a hot day though.

Lot of difference between polluted air and ash. The ash can make the airplane engines stop. Planes would be falling out of the sky over Europe. I remember when Mt. St. Helens erupted in Washington. I was working on a military base with a lot of bunkers containing missiles, torpedoes, and other ordinance. They were pretty concerned that if the ash cloud hit their area, the cooling systems for the bunkers would stop functioning, which isn't a very good thing. Hopefully the circulation systems in houses, businesses, etc., in Europe will not be affected too much.

I really don't get why it isn't street legal in Japan, unless they are waiting for a Japanese maker to create one before making them legal. I would love to ride one of them to the supermarket.
