The point is that if Japan joins TPP, no one will buy Japanese products. It will just be a huge sucking out of the Japanese economy to other countries.

Nuclear power is a large field with many different technologies. To be against all of it is anti-intellectual and precludes innovation that will help make society a better place. There are technologies like travelling wave reactors that will run on spent fuel. New power plants that are being built by Toshiba in China are orders of magnitude safer than those that are in Japan. It is the anti-nuclear camp that is making Japan more dangerous by not allowing newer, safer plants to be built.

It depends on what the letter said.

Japan has been trying to cut back on drunkiness recently. This year it was decided that all cultural festivals would not have alcohol during the festival. For example, a festival with a danjiri or mikoshi. Warning labels on cans are next.
Posted in: There is a need for a law to warn people to drink an appropriate amount of alcohol.

The technology being used is totally different than that used in Fukushima. It's too bad Toshiba is not building the plant.

Um, why not skip the stimulus and the tax increase? Just let the economy do its thing. Herbert Simon got the nobel prize in economics for showing that humans are bounded in their rationality and thus the market is irrational. It's too complex a system to predict the results, so just stop causing trouble! Sometimes it is better to do nothing at all.

Nuclear power is a very broad field encompassing many disparate technologies. Japan should look at developing new nuclear technologies that are a better fit in seismically active areas, like traveling wave reactors, for instance.

This is a great idea. THe 5 trillion yen could be paid for by starting up Japan's nuclear plants for less than 1.5 years. RIght now all that wealth is just flowing out of Japan into other countries, like Russia.
