But if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. Then what?

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Leave a loaded gun on the table, and nobody will get hurt unless somebody touches it. That being said, I agree crimes like this would be a lot more difficult using only "pointed sticks".

While I do appreciate JT's photographer's fine work in this case, don't you think there should be more than a one-sentence story?

@ nigelboy - Why do I always have to explain? It was only meant to make a point about the legal system in Japan. It was not meant to be a real prediction. But you go on nigelboy, keep that narrow mindedness coming!

I predict a suspended sentence after all is said and done. He's old. All he'll have to do is "show remorse" and the judge will let him off with a "life sentence suspended for four years".

I am not Japanese, but I disagree that the monarchy is irrelevant. Maybe as far as governing it is. But, culturally, I think it's very important. One of the things I love about Japan is the very distinct and vibrant culture. Take away the royal family, and you dilute the culture.

It was bicycles, not motorbikes. I saw them on the news. Scorched paint and melted tires, nothing to write home about.

The sorriest thing is, at some point in the future many will regret they were poking fun at these people, but it will be too late for them to admit they were wrong.

@ SolidariTea and mikehuntez - do I really have to explain? I used the "cannon fodder" comment because Obama is trying to be all warm and fuzzy towards gays and lesbians so that they too will enter the military. Once in, they'll likely be sent to a foreign country to be shot at (cannon fodder). It was not an anti-gay or anti-military comment(I spent 22 years in the service).

While I agree that reducing the number of nuclear weapons is a good idea, reducing the amount of melodrama that goes with this story would be just as beneficial.
