Possibly the murder rate has dropped in Japan over the last thirty years or so, however, the obscurity of murders in Japan are definitely increasing.

So, you admit it was luck you survived an unsupervised childhood, hey jpdrag0n?
Very sad event indeed. It was a 6m deep sewerage drain with no fencing in an area where, obviously, children are playing. It sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Possibly some of the blame could go to the parents for allowing the children to pay in an unsafe area although, I'd place the blame on the local water authority for failing to secure such a deadly pit.

I don't think this is a copy-cat case at all. It's just another demented lunatic with a knife looking for an easy target. This kind of attack/assault has been happening at least once a month from way before the Akihabara attack. If anything, the Akihabara attack was a copy-cat attack. Just another nail in the coffin of Japanese society. Be afraid people! You never know where or when it's gonna come from! Keep your eyes open and your kids close!

You can sell anything in Japan regardless of taste or health benefits as long as it comes in packaging that makes all the yocals go, "eh, kowai iiiiii!"

Yep, there is no justification or sympathy for anybody who can beat on a child, regardless of the situation or age of the offender. This guy is sick and needs to be evaluated although, he will just plead guilty and say he was stressed, then he'll get a warning and do it again.

Instant ramen is great for hardening up those arteries and lifting the blood pressure. It will also contribute to a stomach ulcer if you eat it regularly. Great stuff! Give it to your kids for lunch every day!

Glad to see she has her priorities right. The G8 summit is no where as important as an album release, is it?

Wow, the Japanese must be shattered to see their most prominent sportsperson lose. I can't wait to see him on the Saturday night talk show getting consoled by the team of immature twits.

Nope! I'm not sure it's in the law, but it is what they teach the kids in elementary school. Just like, don't run across the road, but how many times have you seen a mother running across a busy street with two or three kids in tow.

Yep! I don't condone the fact he or she left the scene, of course, but the person responsible has had their life destroyed by what is 'more than likely to be' an error of judgment by the an 82 year old who should not have been riding a bicycle on a busy main road in the first place. Also, the articles states he was riding his bicycle across the road. They are supposed to walked across roads. error in judgment #1.

82 years old and riding a bicycle? Condolences to his family, but I feel more sorry for the driver that hit him. At that age he would have the road sense of a three year old and a reaction time of a 82 year old. Too many times I have seen senior cits swerving all over the road as they attempt to navigate a straight line on a bicycle and it comes as no surprise one of them got cleaned up. Sad, but inevitable.

Hey Wilbur, you should tell that to a sixteen year old girl I know whose mother dropped her off at a piano lesson and then drove around around the corner and plunged an 8" carving knife into her own chest. I'm sure she'd be interested in your murder theory. Does 'hari kiri' ring a bell?

Looking at the style of this tag it has not been done by pros. I'd suspect Japanese teenage wanna be's have created their own tag. I'm sure the cops would find more of the same tag around the neighborhood if they bothered to have a look. I doubt if this was done by a foreigner. It was probably done by the same group that was stealing all the tulips a few months back.
