Yeah, it's sad and true that to introduce baby hatches on a large scale would be impossible in Japan, however, with the large amount of recent baby deaths due to dis-functional and desperate parents there certainly is a need for better support. It sickens me to see this kind of thing happening so often. I know it happens in other parts of the world too, but not with the regularity and random obscurity that it seems to happen here. - kicked to death, starved to death, shaken to death for crying, locked under the seat of a scooter while ma and pa are playing pachinco and now, dumped in a train locker, just to name a few. Just sickening!

Wow! No where to live and nowhere to die! The future of Japan looks bleak.

Once again, I have to disagree. The main point of a baby hatch is being able to use it anonymously, but walking into a hospital to drop off a baby has no anonymity what-so-ever. And, stuff the baby into a bag??? C'mon, be real!
I agree this kind of thing will happen with or without baby hatches being available, but put in this situation I'm sure many parents of unwanted children would like to know they have a choice besides abandoning their baby in a train station locker.

Hey! Blue Tiger! The 'one-and-only' baby hatch is in bloody Kyushu!

So, do you still think the baby hatches are a bad idea? They should be everywhere! Train stations, convenience stores, family restaurants, schools and anywhere else that people could drop their babies off. It's a sad fact there are so many irresponsible people within this society, but these littlies deserve a chance and don't deserve to be cast away like an unwanted toy. SAD!

Isn't 'cattle' plural? I hope the others look better than this one or they will be paying people to take them.

This is fishy! No witnesses and only the father's story of self defense. Unfortunately, with recent news of all the oldies going nuts I'm inclined to doubt this one too. A sad day for the family, either way.

I guess it was pretty dumb of me to say it is not apathy because feeling insignificant and having no voice in society is apathy. They just don't give a rat's donkey! 無関心

Hey Spidey! I was gonna post the same thing, but thought it was off topic. However, I don't really think it's apathy. I think it's more to do with feeling insignificant and having no voice in society.
Does anybody know the percentage of adults who actually vote?

I can answer this question with a question:
Who is the Prime Minister this week?
Apathetic? - No!
Disgusted? - Yes!

Which are what exactly??? Checking bicycle registrations? Napping in the koban? Standing on the street looking intelligent (or attempting to)? Chasing monkeys?

It's OK. The police will get him when he comes in for a confession! And, he will also get a suspended sentence to be served in the mountains. - You've got to wonder why this monkey hasn't been spotted more regularly and captured when it's running loose in the most densely populated city in the world. Says a lot for the culture, doesn't it?
