How? Hit them with a cane? Don't be absurd! This old bat is just a loopy geriatric that is fed up with living in this society and is taking it out on anyone or, in this case everyone she can get the attention from. On the train the other night I saw an average looking 60 odd year old businessman sitting on the train watching some stupid variety show on his keitai and he was beaming people in the train with a laser pointer during commercials. Just a fruitcake! I see so many of these nutter 60+ fruitcakes it's scary!

Oh, Saitama. What an interesting place it must be. I like the first post in this thread commenting on the declining standards of parenting. They are not declining at all! It's always been like this. It's only the obscurity that has increased. Ask people in their 30's about child and spousal abuse from when they were kids and it's no different. It's cultural! Just like eating squid guts and fried sparrows on a stick. Oh, glory days!

Models aside: I hope Sony intends to bring the price of their recorders down substantially or their market share dreams will remain pipe-dreams.

Nah, Guru. I think it's just typical Japanese irony. However, everyone has assumed it is the giant Japanese hornet, but the story gives no definition of species. There are more than one type of hornet in Japan and most will attack in swarms. If this was a giant hornet's nest he can consider himself lucky he is not dead. The authorities advise people to NEVER attempt removal of these monsters, but to contact the police and get professionals to remove them.

The old people in Japan seem to be getting more and more loopy. Stabbings, slashings, attacks, threats. It seems to be a geriatric crime spree. I guess they have to stimulate their minds somehow.

Why? They didn't catch him and they gave up after receiving a 'minor' injury. A typically Japanese token attempt at heroism. Receiving an injury would have only served to spur me on. However, being a foreigner I would have been in more serious trouble than the offender.

The number plate was more than likely bent up to obscure any chance of reading it as is done by all the little twits on their scooters. There was television campaign not so long ago advising women how to prevent this kind of theft. Obviously these women didn't see it. There are many anti-theft devices available to stop this. The simplest thing is to just place a 100yen cover over the basket. The complacency of most Japanese people towards theft never ceases to amaze me.

Yup! What a ridiculous statement! Was anybody actually working in the hospital? How do they monitor patients? Do they monitor patients?
Reconfirming note to self - Never go to a Japanese hospital!

I can't wait to see if they solve this one with a confession. "Yes, I killed my wife because she wouldn't talk to me!"

So true! Too many of these little wimp Japanese guys have never been to the school of hard knocks to be taught what's what! They live a virtual lawless lifestyle. This is only two wimps from one prefecture. How many more are there? How many more girls have been molested? How can foreigners get these little wimps alone for a lesson in what's what without being deported?

Overall I think most Japanese pet owners are responsible, but there are many twits out there. One couple I know of lives in a 2ldk aparto and they have ten dogs. Yes, 10! I would never go into their aparto. I know of another person living in an aparto that has two Boarder Collies. These are working dogs bred for chasing sheep. They must be going nuts living in an apartment. That's also interesting that Japan has no laws regarding animal testing.

And, the Japanese police solve another case - with a confession. These animals have been doing this for five years? I know many rapes do not get reported, but c'mon. This is ridiculous! And, once again, it's Saitama, .

As much as this petty bickering over mobile phone etiquette is amusing, it's also been proven that cell phones are used to detonate bombs! Are you people so wound up in your little bicker that you fail to see the real problem? NO PHONES OR PALM PCs ON PLANES! EVER!

One shouldn't jump to the conclusion that she was murdered in a robbery, but with all the recent similar events it's hard not to believe that is the case. I never thought I would be so concerned about my personal safety and the safety of my family living in Japan, but these kinds of events are happening every day and they are so random it is scary! I'm sure we are going to see a lot more people carrying weapons for protection and these kinds of events are going to continue to grow in regularity.

Most posters are concerned with mobile phone etiquette and in a perfect world there would be no problem with people using mobiles on flights as long as they were used with good manners and respect for the people around them. However, we do not live in a perfect world and the main issue is, the use of electronics devices to set off bombs. Therefor, all electronic devices capable of emitting a signal have to be banned from any flight. A sad sign of the times.
