here comes the character assassination. An asteroid hitting you right now is also a not zero event. Gov't has to take expert advice. If that advice wavers it can't be nit picking at every decision. If it went with it based on that advice then it felt it did the right thing. If media want to make up a story here how is Kan at fault? Media can't even make sense to itself.

the people who cause a problem are not going to be the people who fix it. A clean break is needed along with a new attitude. Merely dragging along the same dolt(s) who allowed the same thinking will not change thinking, no matter how many times they bow.

resignation does no preclude investigation or jail time and sends a signal to other managers that they too might have to go.

normally the international con approach is to sell off all public assets, make sure rich people have no new taxes while making sure all others do, reduce public spending which will be easy since there will be fewer assets that generated income, ring up massive debts in the process, then get kicked out of office.

you never see taxes to the rich increase to within only 100x that of the lowest employee (1970's it was 40x in USA so 100 to 200 times wouldn't be an unrealistic cut off), public institutions upheld so that people have hope, and open up the markets without subsidies?

If public institutions are upheld then there is no fear of changing jobs due to lack of competitiveness. However cut public support and business will clamour for subsidies or threaten to move because of their inabilities.

cut the subsidies, not the people. People can make new companies.

Will be interesting to see how this works out, but I suspect it will be the same old story.

why don't Japanese remember chuken Hachiko ? Go look at a statue at Shibuya station, then realize there are approx 20,000 family pets (according to a Toronto Star article I read today) dying from neglect after 70 days. Please stop doing that.

I'm not reading about tourist destinations in Japan. I'm reading about the government enforcement of neglect of family pets.

another thing is that you need good PR. This means: Go save the animals. People love animals everywhere. Leaving there to rot is really not helping anyone sympathize with Japan or the Japanese Government.

    Go save fido and fluffy

How long a list can be made and how realistic is it that even one item would ever change on that list?

    Two obvious things:

Why would anyone return after the heckling they received 'flygin'? The term gaijin itself is pretty demeaning yet wasn't it realistic to get out of harms way? Japanese did but no comments there. The type of people who know about Japan and would travel there would sees that hypocrisy.
I note the article is only about tourists, not world citizens who like to live and travel in Japan.

Ban the use of facemasks for every conceivable usage except for what they are designed for. If you're sick, stay home and telecommute. I'm doing that now since I have a cold. Works for most computer service companies.

Also nix them especially at airports, that's not helping anyone.

So, yeah. Any list would be endless and nothing will change.

Thus the #1 thing is: Be willing to change. If that isn't there, no matter what the idea is, it won't matter if the will isn't there.

beautiful democracy, chaotic, but full of hope and fortitude. I wonder if a national strike won't be far behind the election if the will of the people is not met?

It's nice that they are giving an unknown independent film the treatment. Maybe it will make money this time?

seriously though, Cameron has been desperate to get 3D off the ground ever since his hit Avatar. But it just becomes a gimmick and will end like this fad has ended every other time. We don't really need it.

Also with Celine Dion long since entering her own self parody years due to overexposure, it all just becomes a sad money scheme.

Is Cameron becoming another George Lucas? Yikes

Clearly this guy lost it and deserves jail time but it serves as a reminder to treat people well, even if it goes south.

Might a little care and tact at the disintegration of any relationship given this guy something else to strive for? He clearly had nothing to lose and was distraught over the breakup, never a healthy combo.

As another said, plenty of fish in the sea. Sea of Japan no less.

In a way it mirrors the recent 'talent' chick who took her life. I wonder if those reading this just read it as yet another bad news event, or do they see the lesson within it to try, even with people you no longer like, to respect their feelings while firmly but slowly backing away? For all of Japan's customs, courtesy is an art that is disappearing.

It might not have made a difference here (he did buy two knives) but in general having social skills also means being able to move on.

TEPCO was not mentioned as a cause in this article. TEPCO, which single-handedly destroyed Japan's reputation and mired Europe in memories of Chernobyl.

Merely being angry wasn't the reason, that was the result. If a news organization doesn't know the difference between cause and effect, then what quality of information can anyone receive?
