slipping back into buying a car analogy is not what people on lower incomes do, so again, this is okay just not for those who have no ability to stop spending. Tax those with impulse control

200% of GDP??? Oh but we don't want to pay for it. Expect the bond rating to drop then.

increasing the consumption tax is a good idea as lower incomes do not spend as much nor on the same things has higher incomes anyway. To believe that lower and higher incomes are affected the same is typically the result of not having a clue of what a lower income live is about.

To be fair I never had to write entrance exams for high school either. Or any entrance exams. Ever.
However in Canada unlike Japan it isn't really until university that students get serious and are really challenged to learn whereas university in Japan is when they can take a break at the end of a very hard road. Hence the clubs.
Note as well the Canadian companies don't really train you, your education is your ticket, and hence has to be upgraded from time to time (hence my own return to school). In Japan the company builds you up and you never have a reason to go back.
So the systems are respondent to the different societal norms and perhaps are not appropriate to be compared. However entrance exams alone as an issue should be considered so that capable people can do what they want to do.

Yes, I went back to school as a mature student and there was lots of help available. Not totally unusual here to go back but next to impossible in Japan. Sometimes you have to make your own future and Japanese should be allowed to chart their own direction, regardless of age.

usually in English written as "anti-whalers" which again is more accurate than the slanderous eco-terrorist moniker

Using the term 'eco-terrorist' doesn't make any sense here. This is not in any way a failing in translation nor about JT news here. This is a common English misnomer in the news that never gets called out. It is saying literally that they are against ecology, which doesn't make sense if you're trying to protect it.
If you wanted to define the whalers who are in fact hunting whales, that would be eco-hunting. (Or just hunting. The "Eco-" ness of words is annoying to say the least) It turns out neither group is an eco-terrorist. They are not against the biosphere of the planet. They both need it. One for something to hunt, the other for something to protect.
One group are hunters, the other protectors. Slap on the ubiquitous "eco-" prefix and you are done. Even the MSM can be happy since eco-protectors can be skewed into eco-protectionists. That conveniently conjures up anti capitalistic feelings and should fit right in with the right wing MSM hatred of do-gooders against corporations while still being a more accurate description.
So eco-protectors if you must. But drop the eco, it sounds silly to my English Canadian ears. Hunters vs Protectors. That's it.

The implication is that this is religions since it's happening at a shrine or a sacred place. This versus polar swims which tend to be by a lake or ocean for fun, or even a social cause that is also not religious. Not really the same thing

No university entrance exam in Canada. Your last year of highschool marks are the barometer of general application plus consideration for extra-curricular activities.

how can any gaijin population, either local or imported, in any way by numbers improve Japan economically. Nice to do but I can't see how to expect this to really have any impact. Also given the cc situation and probably a host of other things it all seems out of touch
