if you're giving them that amount of money, nationalize it, so there is some kind of accountability. Why TEPCO hasn't been liquidated first is beyond belief

all this presupposes that Japan for some reason can control spirits. Just open up another shrine without homage to class A war criminals then people will no longer think that Japanese worship class A war criminals. This is not difficult.

Unless there is some open financial or diplomatic penalty to this behaviour, Japan will continue to not sign this treaty, or sign a host of other treaties that G8 countries have signed either.
Equality under the law, Anti-discrimination laws and other human rights, environmental protection, third party forensic audits.... Why are these considered anti-Japanese?
For all the technology and physical wealth, Japan is really a caste system. As long as that remains these issues simply will never change. I don't see how it would.

With dwindling world oil supplies, crippling the 3rd largest economy isn't a bright idea in any case. Already the drums for more war are beating in America though. Intelligent foreign policy is unlikely to win out.

if this is the case currently then amounts should be measurable by other international bodies who are not in on the TEPCO coverups.

Bravo. He knows he helped China with their movie but has just shown a light into a corner they didn't want. He can't be a Batman but more a Bruce Wayne. Effective. This will dog Chinese authorities for a while. Ooops he didn't mean it. Kind of a wink to the Chinese people, not the government.

books don't need lithium ion batteries, require extensive mining operations to get the lithium and a supply chain around the world just to get you an ebook in a store. IF we concentrated on reducing the paper in books then they would be even more local and recyclable. Ebooks, probably never

No, when Peak Oil or another earthquake or tsunami hits Asia all those ebooks will not be available.
Books can be made from recycleable polymer (see the book Cradle to Cradle) and ebooks are reliant on special metals. When those special metals are no longer available then it's back to books. It's really just a techno-triumphalism waste of time. You are not making anything greener by polluting the world for ebook and tablets when books can be recycled while ebooks are not. No comparison.

It seems Japan is desperate to keep going downwards. I wish Woodward well but ultimately Japan doesn't play well with others, and isn't a country worth investing in as this case clearly demonstrates.
Without clear and obvious governance eventually the corruption will be all that's left.
