It has already been reported here at JT that Chinese come to Tokyo to buy name-brand goods at their Tokyo flag-ship stores because that is the only way to know that they are genuine. A Chinese friend says that they also come to Tokyo becuase it is a weekend trip, no jetlag, etc., whereas going to Europe is at least a week trip, with jet lag, etc. Strange because lots of Japanese go to Korea to buy cheap brand goods (assuming they are genuine), so I wonder why Chinese have not discovered Korea.

ratpack, according to NHK, part of the prestige factor is that you came to Japan to buy at the Ginza. Location, location, location...

I think this is reporting is good because before all you heard about were Chinese who participated in anti-Japanese demonstrations etc. I think that maybe most Chinese see past the war problem (forgive but don't forget?), and Japan and China still need each other.

Hmmm... he's kind of cute. I think I'll ask for a tour of the lab. Ops, back on topic, this looks like it may promote herbivorism in men. We already have talking female robots and elder-care robots, now we have kid robots. Who needs to struggle dealing with the real thing. I can have a happy robot family.

I just turn off the volume and put on some Bethoven.

Yesterday, a morning "wide show" was reporting that non-trivial numbers of people end up vomiting because to the "ultra-low frequency vibration" from those vuvus. (I think they were saying the cause was 超低音波, so maybe someone can correct me on the translation.) So there are not only the sights and sounds, but also the perfume.

No, no, you don't understand. When I was a student at a Japanese university, professors sometimes appeared to be asleep during our presentations. However, my classmates said that closing your eyes was a sign that you are listening very seriously. True, sometimes a slight snooring sound would be heard, but that must have been REALLY serious listening.

He Debucho, Arab singer in US? How about Paula Abdul. I admire Jero. Sometimes he needs a makeover by the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy people. But it is really about the music, and it looks like he really nails the songs he sings. I can only dream about that while I mumble through enka songs in karaoke.

He will be seen as a transition figure, as Japan transitions from the LDP to DPJ, and the first real leader in Japan for 5 years: Naoto Kan!!! I'm optimistic! Yes, we Kan!!!

I read that the military dismissed 20 or so Arabic interpreters under DADT. If I were a military person in Iraq, I would much rather have a gay Arabic interpreter/translator tell me there is an explosive device down the road so "stop!" rather than get blown up.

I have a better idea. I think it is time to punish people who leave there little kids in their cars and go play pachinko. To many times we have seen on Japan Today articles about kids who die from heat when left in cars.

On the other hand, remember that South Korea beat the dickens out of a North Korean patrol boat about 2 months ago. This is just tit-for-tat. But who is getting more tit for the other's tat?

Is this really a proxy war between the US and China? Maybe the Dear Leader thinks that the US has lost its mojo, since after 9 years it hasn't even been able to control the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan, much less win. Maybe he thinks the time is right to take over the south.

What, Takeshi Kitano didn't win anything? Well, Thais won, so the jury is still a soft touch for the Asian motif. Nothing to detract from the Thai winner, and I will certainly go see the movie when it gets here.

What is interesting to me is that this event occurred right after the Dear Leader returned from China. Do you supposed China pressed him to get his act together, and this is how he sticks it in China's eye?

I imagine that Melissa is reading everything on this list. I wonder if she has any reaction to what she sees. No matter what, as I said above, she has touched a raw nerve.

Well, we do have to say that this article and thread really touched a raw nerve.

I agree with Ms. Feineman. Is it me, or has the quality of foreigners coming to Japan seriously declined over the past decade? Maybe the good ones are headed to China. Us long-term residents are always paddling up the stream of s**t left by stupid foreigners.

If all we have to worry about is that the PM is wearing, then things can't possibly be that bad at all.

Maybe nothing can be done. If you have 1.3 billion people, there will be a proportionately large number of crazzies. To crazzy and lazy to think of their own crime, they just imitate the most spectacular crime, and you have a defenceless victim too. They must really be cowards at heart.

A new meaning for the expression "China syndrome". Just what problem festering in their deranged minds do these people think they are solving by killing little kids? Get at that to get a handle on the problem. Maybe.
