This is the most stupid law I've ever heard of. If women or men want to cover their faces, who cares? It is their choice. Maybe they could wear surgical masks like here in Japan. I see a business opportunity for mask makers.

So just to be clear, based on the above, through no fault of their own, everyone born before Jesus is in hell because they didn't "accept Jesus"? And "if you lead a sinful life on earth, you will pay for it in your next life" sounds a lot like Hindu-Buddhism, which vastly preceed Christianity in time. Influence? And "emptiness of daily life"? Speak for yourself.

He only cares about his 15 minutes of fame. He doesn't care about anything or anybody else. That is just toooo obvious. Why is the press giving this crackpot so much attention? This says more about the state of the "free press" in the US than anything else. And look at what a horrible job they did reporting the earthquake. Journalism "schools" should be abolished and reporters should be forced to learn actual knowledge.

Oh, it that Florida pastor still desparate for attention? Well, you could burn the Buddhist Trapitika, but we being Buddhists, wouldn't care. You know, here today, gone tomorrow. Just like that Florida pastor.

I agree with rofea, Jackie Chan is more than "rush hour". I've seen him here on Japanese TV, and he's also really funny. Thanks to these two guys!

It is interesting that in the asiaforjapan website, everyone was showing sympathy for Japan except a group of Chinese saying it is revenge for what Japan did to China during the war. All of the comments from Chinese have been deleted from the site. So who really represents China?
And zstar6699, if you check asiaforjapan, you'll see hundreds of comments from Asian countries thanking Japan for the help they received when disasters struck their countries. So who really represents China?

I just saw the SMAP add. Actually, it is not bad (surprisingly, I admit). It seems like there are only 4 AC commercials up to now.

Like the more severe radiation standards in Japan, chocolate here is only permitted to contain 2 insect legs per 8oz. bar. Not so bad. Same with beer.

It seems people here are getting two important points: 1. The rates are for annual consumption, not daily consumption. 2. Japans safety levels are more severe than international levels (just like bad cholestoral levels, BMI levels, etc).
By the way, yesterday there was bottled water here in Shinjuku at my local supermarket. Shinjuku is darker than before the earthquakes due to turning off lots of lights to save energy, but otherwise, things are pretty normal here. Maybe Shinjuku people are not so easily scared.

He surely lives in a different financial world than I do. I've dropped a few thousand yen in loose change in the Red Cross boxes the past week. Wish he were back doing the news.

They feel very "self-important". It didn't work before and it won't work this time. I won't delete the link now because in 2 months they'll announce termination of the fees.

The Economist has an article entitled "Can Japan Endure?" Are you kidding? Japan's middle name is "endure".

@Fadamor Physics and weather both agree that a radiation plume would be broken up by winds and not much more strong than background radiation by the time it reaches Tokyo.

Also, every expert on nuclear energy has said that Tokyo is in no danger even if the reactors melt down. The physics just isn't there. But we all know experts are stupid, right?

So foreigners are not afraid of social disorder? I welcome you to Shinjuku, where not only are the Gucci and Eves Saint Laurant and other luxury brand goods shops locked and shuttered, but all the shelves are empty! Wouldn't want those looted by marauding gangs of angry Japanese as society crumbles, right? After all, two of the broken down reactors are made by General Electric, a US company, which, by the way, knew they were structurally defective. So let's all hope that doesn't get broad play in the press.

This is in contrast to all the foreign residents who are fleeing the country in a panic. Well, I guess we know the real reason they are fleeing. They think the social order will break down and then they will become targets of angry mobs of Japanese. Images of post-Katrina New Orleans come to mind, I guess.
