Still have to keep rubbing that into Japan's face, do we? I guess China is still very embarrassed that the little country to the east could overrun China, commiting barbarities of all kinds. That is, the Chinese couldn't protect their own women. That is embarassing. I still do not understand why they single out Japan, and say nothing about the 100 years of humiliation brought about by the Europeans who took over China and treated them with just as much disdain as the Japanese. Not one Chinese woman was ever sexually used by the civilized European conquerers? This is why, even acknowledging that the Japanese did barbaric things in China, it all seems hypocritical.

@Frungy What you say is true. But family ties are getting thin (like "blood relations") and now you can find companies that will do these things for you. Pay one months rent, and a company be your guarantor and will cover rent for the duration of a contract if you can't pay, etc. Same for a loan. Teachers can guarantor jobs. People don't expect so much from families these days, and lots of families are disfunctional. Children sent their parents to homes for the elderly rather than take care of them. In the case the Aunt mentioned above, she probably just feels less guilty having the girl institutionalized than having a loving family take over what she should be doing.

I'll just add that the "blood relationship" thing is getting pretty thin among young people. It was strong in the grandparents generation. I doubt that will be a count against these kids as they grow up. Governments should invest in kids rather than bombs, anyway.

Some posters have most definitely not been either to China or Japan. Ordinary Chinese and Japanese don't give a witches thinble about the islands. The only way the Chinese government could stop Chinese from coming to Japan was to order Chinese tourist companies to stop organizing trips to Japan. In turn, the Taiwanese are showing up in mass in Shinjuku. I'm guessing that is a way to poke China in the eye. (Look at the signs on the busses - if you read Japanese). But the STA busses (Shanghai Tourist Association) are still in Shinjuku. And personally, I think that the ultra-natinalists on both sides are deranged. Ultranationalist Japanese are scarry to me too.

Well at least they got more people together than the one or two hundred that demonstrated in China (out of 1.3 billion people). So, who did you say the cute guys are?

Very commendable, but I'd rather work on hooking up with the guys in the advertisements in the back. But that is just my priority. However, the article does not make clear what "inaction" they are criticizing. What do they want him to do about it. Well, still, I'd rather hook up with the cute guys in back. Did I say that? Who are they anyway?

I can't help but agree with above posters who say they look like drag queens. I was totally surprised to read that they are actually women. What's next?!

@hottomales You are right about the whistle blower, and I blew it. Still, the main thing is that he should have stuck it out, dug down deep, and found what it takes. He didn't. What a trauma this will be for the kids to grow up with.

@hottomales The article says that Mark and family denied any knowledge of the scandal. What makes him a hero and a whistle-blower? If he was innocent, that would have come out if he had waited around. Suicide seems to mean either he has no coping skills or he was really guilty and expected the worst.

Someone born with a silver spoon in his mouth and had never needed to develop coping strategies we commoners have to develop.

@Beelzebub Don't get all uppity! Just google it with a few words. You are smart enough to do that, right? What an attitude to have to the greatest generation.

So many people get caught with their pants down, and he has been jailed for not using a condom? How ironic. And the world becomes Stalin.

For nearly a quarter of a century, the US Pearl Harbor survivors sponsored a baseball game with the Japanese pilots who dropped the bombs. That is what the US is really all about.

Hikozaemon: my thought exactly. Except, the US has acted like China lots in the past. Only more under the radar.

Maybe this is it: the US and SK and maybe others think that there is a power transition going on, maybe not too smoothly, and they sense a moment of weakness. With the right push, maybe the whole NK regime will collapse like a house of cards. People on the ground talking about lots of discontent? The currency replacement fiasco? Maybe this is a chance to sweep it all away. China's a little too quiet, even though it would suffer millions of North Koreans flooding over its border.

The best thing to do when the north tries to invade the south is to open up the DMZ and let them in. As soon as they see what life in the south is really like, they will realize all they've been taught is a huge lie, and immediately defect to the south.

Long after the USA has ceased to exist, future historians will write its history, and the last chapter will be called "Sarah Palin Becomes President".

North Korea's motive is that it wants to show it is one of the big players, like China and Russia, in "island politics".

Let's not forget this is ultimately all the fault of the US and Russia. In the first few months after the end of WWII, there was no North and South Korea. Koreans like to remind Japanese that immediately after the war, the provisional government organized militias to protect Japanese who were in Korea. Then the US and Russia stepped in entirely uninvited, and divided Korea into N and S. Then we had the Korean war and the present situation. Chalk up another one up for the good ol' USofA.

I think Dear Kim and Lil' Kim actually play the same role as the emperor here. Whatever power the Kim family may have had is gone. The military has taken over all power, and this is their way of ... doing what? I'm not sure. They just are figure heads. Where are the US military and their missles that are supposed to shoot down incomming missles? I don't feel safe anymore here in Japan. Anyway, the US, Japan, and S. Korea made China, and if China wants to play with N Korea, just get used to it. It is just a little proxy war China is playing as part of its "Island Politics" (along with Russia).
