I think it's funny that people thought things would be any different under Obama.

Shiuu, Yes too lazy to learn basic Japanese because here as a visitor and it is too much hassle.

It's less annoying for visitors. Of course, I've heard more than one 20 year "visitor" offer that very same lame excuse.

The point is, if foreigners in Japan are too lazy to learn Japanese, what right do they have to demand Japanese people learn English just to make their lives easier?

shuii-i speak some japanese as well but not to point i can express my self fully n at times u need at least one person ho can at least speak english.that does not mean arrogance.in many cities around the world where they all have their native languages a considerable number speak english.mind you ,am not a native speaker but learnt it cos i knew it is the international language now.ve u bothered to ask why certain centres designated for foreigners are manned by people who cannot babble no other word than "sank you".

Translation: "I'm too lazy to learn even basic Japanese."

The true sign of a miserbable (sic) human being is finding faults in strangers lives. Yes, thats aimed at you Shiuu.

As opposed to the true sign of a hypocrite which is when you act self-righteous while doing the exact same thing.

its disturbing.many times ve been to govt offices, banks ,hospitals etc and there is not a single soul who speaks english.for now, english is the accepted international language so it will prudent if they encourage some of its people to learn the language.

What's more disturbing to me is arrogant foreigners who think they should be able to waltz into government offices, banks, hospitals etc. in Japan and start speaking English to the staff as if they own the place.

Wow, they look beat-down and depressed already. Usually that does not happen for a month or so. Seven & I must have gotten the really high-potential grads this year.

True. There are times one can't help but feel sort of sorry for corporate Japan. Especially if this is the best they have to work with ...

It looks like more than one of the new employees is not giving their full attention to the ceremony. I can't really blame them, but It'd be sort of funny if publication of this photo lead to their dismissal.

Not to mention, if not done properly, death by hanging is said to be excruciatingly painful.

if more 18 year old girls would wear maid's costumes I would still be a teacher.

If I could order 18-year-old girls to do my bidding just by holding their grades hostage, I might consider becoming one.

I'm sure those six pupils will live guilt for the rest for their lives.

I agree with the post directly above. The six, if they ever even learn that they were among those named, will likely forget about the whole thing before they finish high school.

That's why the kid who killed himself in this story was a fool.

Or one could use the money to buy clothes for a job interview...

    Ha. Ha. Ha.

... a good suit of clothes would have the effect of dressing up a monkey.

    Now that's more like it.

shiuu - For cryin' out loud, Suzuki is just 26 years old. Do you expect him to have saved enough to live on for several years?

I expect most sensible people to have three to six months reserve. When I was 26, I did.

Then again, I didn't sleep through school so it's probably not a fair comparison.

In a nation with one of the highest savings rates in the world, Sadanori Suzuki managed to exhaust his in just two weeks. I guess he never heard of saving for a rainy day ...

Two reasons this story is unintentionally amusing:

    1) the first people the investigators thought to question were apparently fellow police officers

    2) even with a key, the idiot police lieutenant couldn't manage to get inside the house
