You know, there's basically gonna be no middle ground. but I'd like to ask, you guys in support of the unions, the ones who are fully in support, what's your view about actors in the actors guild? They're making a lot more than many of those so called "rich" self made business guys. Why do you give them a pass?

Hey everyone, who, if the people of Libya can't, should be the ones to reel Gadhafi in? And what should happen to him, prison, hanging, what?

huh! "Two-thirds of the eighth graders in Wisconsin public schools cannot read proficiently according to the U.S. Department of Education, despite the fact that Wisconsin spends more per pupil in its public schools than any other state in the Midwest. In the National Assessment of Educational Progress tests administered by the U.S. Department of Education in 2009—the latest year available—only 32 percent of Wisconsin public-school eighth graders earned a “proficient” rating while another 2 percent earned an “advanced” rating. The other 66 percent of Wisconsin public-school eighth graders earned ratings below “proficient,” including 44 percent who earned a rating of “basic” and 22 percent who earned a rating of “below basic.”"

This publicity about the Koch brothers is a good thing because these guys like to keep a low profile and most folks haven't a clue who they are" Ok, I give.. I don't know who they are and the wiki has a nice fairy tale story about them. I don't see the correlation between them and this issue. Please enlighten.

sipthesong, I would like to tell AGAIN you the military cannot organize unions. Military personnel has NO rights. The 14th Amends. does not extend to military." Hey, I hope you're not grinding your teeth saying that. I asked a question, what if.... My point is that public employees should not be unionized for the most part. its hard enough to fire a bad without the union, being in a union makes it harder. NYC Dept of Ed is a perfect example

Since 20 yrs. ago, the Middle Class Americans have been squeezed. We are feeling our real income have been declining while the Rich Americans income have been souring." My income has risen a lot since I got out of the army. The Rich have been strategically pouring campaign money in politicians who will work for their advantage." does that include George Soros (now that I know who and what he's about) The result is the poor gets poorer and the rich gets richer." If you feel that far down, get a better job or marry someone who's rich. Besides what does all this mumbo have to do with Wis teachers not paying into their own bennies? Every teacher I know either has their own house or live in a nice condo. Much better than I had when I drove an ambulance.

If you really think the US gov't cares in a heartfelt way, you are sadly mistaken. Your country is a strategic issue, nothing less, nothing more." What a blanquito thing to say. So what was it for the left? They have been the ones would could careless trumping ideology over human rights. Oh, and think about this, I know its hard for those silver spoon fed, but the US did not have to open its land to my relatives fleeing a DICTATOR and his merciless killer side kick; I bet you have his tee shirt don't you? You're all like that. You guys always think you are the ones that knows what every thing is to be.

Why not in the public sector?" its bad enough that firemen, police, sanitation people strike. I like how you portrayed Wis and union based states from one of those new sites that just popped up. Wis was ranked 22nd (entire state), let's not even talk about Detroit. And even if Conn. has the best, we clearly know about the biggest - NYC which is ranked far below than satisfactory, including keeping pedophiles, sex offenders, and hookers on payroll, you still can't compare private ed to public ed as this point in time. I'm glad I'm in Japan where my kid can go to ASIJ or Saint Mary's.
No, having that much power in the public sector is bad news. You wouldn't want the military to be under a union would you? that would mean that mutinies would be legal.

and for the record yabits, I like to believe there is a hand in hand relationship between unions and business. but not in the public sector.

So, where has the EEOC come down on any labor unions? The number of complaints cited against unions dwarfs the number filed against companies and other organizations." I am not comparing. I am stating. You are trying to paint some lovely picture of all unions. As for "On the other hand, unions have been some of the most vigorous supporters of EEOC enforcement of violations." I'm not arguing that. But I have never had a violation placed against me nor any company I worked for since I left health care jobs. You are trying to paint this picture that all business are inherited evil and greedy and the unions are shining knights in armor 100% of the time.

yabits: Since 2000, labor unions faced 13,815 complaints of discrimination filed with the government's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. These include:
4,248 complaints of race discrimination 3,386 complaints of age discrimination 1,820 complaints of sex discrimination 1,642 complaints of disability discrimination 297 complaints of religious discrimination

and then often go to the taxpayers looking for a bailout." first of all, you're swinging in the wrong direction. I was here, fact, denouncing any type of bail out, but of course to save union workers.... we did bail a particular company out. It wasn't me who said "too big to fail" It's OK to ensure a multi-millionaire investment banker gets his taxpayer-funded bonus" if you are refering to AIG or GM, I thought the last news was that it was being pulled in by Chris Dodd
"while you're slashing the pay and benefits of school-teachers to pay for it." While you over pay teachers who refuse to take a test, who have brought a state to the lower ranks in terms of education. Besides, their pay is not being slashed, they're being asked to pay into their own benefits. I don't know why you paint them to be so special while private teachers who are forced to pass tests, aren't given such lavish benefits, yet provide children with MUCH MUCH MUCH better education. the days where people could just join a union, commit crimes (sex offenders on NYC education payroll), be lazy, thug a city or state into inflated priced projects are coming to a close.

yabits Sorry, but credit unions aren't the same thing as labor unions. The EEOC never had to "come down" on labor unions for discrimination." "Unions have a long history of petitioning government for special protections from competitive nonunion firms, especially in the skilled trades and construction industries. The result has been a kind of institutionalized racism. For example, the Depression era Davis-Bacon Act-which mandates that prevailing (union) wages be paid on all federal construction projects-was originally passed to protect Northern, and predominately white, unionized construction workers from the Southern, black, nonunion construction workers who were underbidding the union firms. Unions continue to fight to preserve this law despite the fact it serves no worthwhile social or economic purpose."

Unions represent millions of middle class working people. Now who do you think rich billionaire people represent?" Oh no, unions represent unions. do you think you're the only one who's been in a union job? rich people build companies and take a RISK with their money and in many cases lose it but at the same time they create jobs and unions were supposed to make the conditions better. What they want in Wis is neither. Mind you, unions have their own history of discrimination.
Give me a list of all unions led by either Puerto Rican or a Cuban-American, least you not forget, it wasn't too long ago when the EEOC had to come down on unions for discrimination.
