Sushi: "1/ Introduce a gas tax to help get motorists off oil and funding terrorist regimes, and to use to fund research into clean, more environmentally-friendly forms of energy and help America regain her competitive edge in an industry that is only going to grow." A tax in not necessary... You are talking about a penalty. What was brought up a while ago, was that the alternative energy industry needs to rely less on government and more on innovation and private investment. You've seen me here long enough; you know I want people to move to renewable energy.

stop using the ridiculous word "entitlements". The correct word is "necessities"" Disagree, respectfully, but there are a lot of entitlements and there a lot of necessities... and we should have the right to decide which is which and alter as necessary.

" I think most of the posters on this site will agree with Loughner's not guilty plea. After all, they all know that either Rush, Palin, Beck, or some vast right wing conspiracy did the crime. " I'm sure a white kid like him played PS3, listened to Emminem, was a wanna be gansster and was a frequent view of Saw.. so, you were saying?

Corporate profitability has increased, the Dow has flourished, and those who have enough money to be investors are relatively happy while real wages fall." And what happens when it doesn't increase and the Dow goes way down?
"Business closes people out of jobs solely for the reason of increasing profitability for investors." That's to assume we are only talking about public corporations....
Lower taxes are not the road to a tenable society." depends on which taxes we are talking about. I'm sure you heard about businesses leaving Cali and now possibly Illinois... Increasing taxes have also caused corps to leave the US entirely

Top tax rates were lowered from 90% to 70% under the Great Society President Johnson. Under Reagan they were lowered to 50% and then to 28%. During the Clinton years it rose to about 40% and in 2010 it was 35%. Of course, different times necessitate different measures but the point is that the nation has managed to prosper under various high levels of taxation." True, but we pay the second highest corporate taxes in the world.... If you have a decent size corp, and somehow can't pay the taxes, you are closes. I'm sure we're the only country that does that.
Taxes, particularly taxes on top earners and corporations should be raised, not lowered." And every time you do, you just closed someone out of a job. Oh and what about those top earners in the government? Or even those GS types making 200+k a year? How about cutting redundant services and personnel in said gov jobs?

essentially the same bunch of crooks who gave the world a global recession" Everything for me was moving forward until 2006 and Pelosi showed up...
Even Gingrich is talking of introducing a bill to allow states to go bankrupt. Funny thing is, he's not even a politician." I believe he once was... but still, if he's not why does he get to introduce a bill?
America 'needs' to spend more on defense" We wouldn't if they didn't keep purchasing from union led companies. We sell devices that are sold to the military for in some cases 10 times the cost they could get it from us.

I believe the CIA gave the WMD intel to the bush WH" You believe George altered it or you know he altered it? Why wouldn't Powell not have said that?
Not so Congress if they were fed and voted for spin." Not even those on the intel committees?
I laughed? Sure you're not mixing me up with someone else? Draining a treasury for a pointless war is idiotic, not comedy." No, you smirked because it was a screw up by GWB and that's what mattered to you most.
Again, this is not a personal attack on you...

hey Sushi, how come your memory is so selective? Why do you fault on two and only two men? Who gave the faulty intel to Bush and Blair - Clinton's CIA, Colin Powell made the case to the UN.. why do you completely give them a pass?
When I heard Powell, I was for it.
As for the WMD's, there's a wikileak circulating that says there were WMDs found (but I'm not one to believe wikileaks anyway but you were hugging up to them).
As for embolding Iran on the Tax payers' dime I will for once agree with you, but because the war was fought wrong.
drained the treasuries of both the U.S. and the UK, strained and weakened both countries' militaries," but you laughed at this. Now you use it as part of your argument?
Oh, and Sushi, this is not a personal attack on you, if you are offended, I'm apologize.

The Question seems to have a lot of answer. Not all, but he's somewhat on the right track. I think many who are either in support of it or against need to speak with people in the medical and insurance fields.
And I have no doubts than rates will continue to increase as more portions are put into effect." Everyone one of us on this board works a job, we want to get paid for it and eventually we would like to get a raise. In order to get a raise, you need to perform and bring your company PROFITS in order to operate. A company = business which = money just in case you all hve forgotten. The insurance companies helped write the bill for heavens sake, they've got democrats and republicans both in their back pockets, do you really think anything in this is going to increase the quality of care? Not a chance." Yup, and they are now be given business on a silver platter and I am so amazed at how they were vilified up to this, and still are, yet so many seem to erase the above fact out of memory.
The reason healthcare is so expensive in the U.S is because having insurance disconnects people from how much procedures and drugs cost, thus allowing doctors, hospitals, and drug companies to charge more and more. This government plan, or any kind of public option, further extends that disconnect." To give you a best scenario is look at Singapore and Japan's health care and see how it has risen over the years and why. Its gonna go up way up. Case in point. One of the few procedures not covered by most insurance companies is lasik eye surgery, people have to pay out of pocket for it. The result? It has gone down in price, up in quality, and the recovery time has gone down at a staggering rate. It's because clients shop around for the best and cheapest providers." You should call yourself the Answer
Competition between providers made the procedure better across the board." Couldn't have said it better myself.
My idea of improving the system would be for the insurance company to compute the average cost and give people hard cash when they want to go to the doctor and let them use the difference as credit on their insurance account. How fast do you think doctors would start scrambling to prove to their clients how good they are compared to their competitors or how much cheaper? Pretty darn quick I'd wager" Anyone gonna bet him? My money's on him.
And I can't stress enough how much our medicine could be improved if FDA approval on new drugs would be voulentary." I think I've hit on the price of our devices. Well, when the hospital buys our products and they've gone up, they have to throw that back at the patient. Yet none of this has even been mentioned. Not by democrats, not by republicans, not by anybody in the media. The government has thus failed utterly to increase quality of care through any of its attempts to influence healthcare." for most here, you'll be talking to a wall.
