Don't be so obsessed on this subject. How many messages have you posted on this thread anyway? The issue is simply how I described it earlier, a cyclical trend. In the past 80 years, Hollywood has chosen its villains to mirror the news events of the era. So we have seen Japanese, Nazis, North Koreans, Russians, Chinese, Colombian drug cartels, white South Africans, corporate villains and eco-terrorists in films. For the past few years, whether we like it or not, the villains of choice have been Islamic extremists. In a few years, the baddies will be someone else.

In any case, I have also seen some Hollywood films with Muslim characters portrayed positively, so it is not all bad news.

Those of you sympathizing with her should remember that she was dealt with leniently the first time she was caught. She was given a suspended sentence, which for most people, would be a wake-up call. The selling and use of stimulants is a serious crime.

I think that some jail or rehab time is better for Komukai, so now is not the time to flee to the Philippines, if that is, in fact, what she has done. It will only make matters worse for her.

I can never understand how these pirates can board a moving super tanker at sea. How do they even get on board without being seen by the crew of the tanker?

When I first saw the photo, I thought they are already lighting up a Christmas tree. But seriously, this is a good project, but why does it only last until March 27. I'd like to see a permanent helpline for victims of abuse.

I agree with one of the readers above who said that these things tend to go in cycles and mirror world events. During World War II, the Japanese were the villains. In the 195os, it was the Soviets and then came Fu Manchu. In the 1980s and 1990s, it was big business. Who knows who will be the next group to be portrayed as villains.

It's rare but I just saw a DVD from the 1990s not too long ago, "A Perfect Murder," with Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow. David Suchet was the New York detective investigating the crime, and he was a Muslim.

What's your definition of democracy? Creating a vacuum through chaos and anarchy and then letting the strongest side take power?

No thank you. I'll stuck with my definition. Have an election and vote in a leader and then allow him/her and the government to govern on the people's behalf.

Democracy to me means voting in a government to make decisions for you, not "taking it back" through chaos.

The best thing all sides can do now is back off and go back to their homes and jobs and prepare for the election after Mubarak steps down. Then let each candidate state their position, whether it be fundamentalist or liberal, and have the election.

There is no need for any more violence and nothing to be gained by hounding Mubarak out of office now.

I don't know what you're talking about but I was referring to the part of the story that says the Muslim Brotherhood is calling for an Islamic state. Do you know what that means? A crackdown on the fun and liberal lifestyle that you are referring to.

I hope all the young people demonstrating realize that the Muslim Brotherhood is calling for an Islamic state in Egypt, so if they get into power, they can say goodbye to any Western music, movies, food, fashions that they might like.

Usually they have sumo wrestlers appear at these events, but with all the scandals surfacing at the moment, they'd probably have the beans thrown back at them.

It's incredible that there are actually some idiots strolling along the waterfront. Do they think it is just going to be some rain and wind?

I voted yes and I am curious to know the reasons of those voting no. If you fear that by writing a book, he will profit financially from it, he won't. If you think that by writing a book, it will influence the jury to give him a lighter sentence, it won't (not when the grisly details of the crime are presented in court)

I can see how criminologists might take an interest in the book. Also, it might answer some of the questions that readers on JT kept arguing about from the time of the murder to his capture - questions like what did he say to manipulate Miss Hawker up to his apartment (I have always wanted to know what he said); what were his intentions, what actually happened (probably best left to an autopsy report), where did he go that first night he escaped; and so on.

I certainly won't be buying the book but I can see how this case would attract some readers.

Let's see, growing up, I loved (and still do) the Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck comics. They are so hard to find nowadays; most have become collectors' items. Of course, I enjoyed Peanuts, Andy Capp, Blondie and Beetle Bailey. One of the reasons I am sad about the decline of newspapers is because I miss those comics. Sure, some of them can be read online, but that's not the same thing.

At least, I can still subscribe to the Phantom.
