I hope there will always be newspapers. I would miss my daily crossword and on Saturdays and Sundays, at least in my home country, reading the thick papers is a tradition.

My gripe with online media is that there is too much of a rush to publish news without taking the time to verify it or even analyze it. Furthermore, too many blogs pass themselves off as news sites when they are nothing more than shriekfests.

It will really be a sad day when the last newspaper in the world closes its doors. Hopefully, it won't be in my lifetime.

How do you force a man in his 40s to return with you from one prefecture to another? It sounds like both of these sons were weak-willed.

    1. Convenience stores. The range of products and services is amazing.
    2. Takkyubin. Fantastic delivery service.
    3. Service in stores and restaurants.
    4. Availability of tradesmen during irregular hours. One recent Saturday night, I needed an electrician and I was able to get one. Impossible in my country.
    5. Relative safety. I have never felt unsafe walking outside at night.
    6. Transportation network.
    7. Warm toilet seats.
    8. Getting a haircut and the way they pamper you.
    9. The elegant fashion style of the women. Which in turn makes me dress up when we go out for dinner.
    10. Oshibori

So many more, but that will do for a start.

I can't count the number of times I have heard stories like this, in which a young girl gives birth at home, and her family were not even aware she was pregnant. She must be a shut-in, but the family must be a real collection of dysfunctional types

I'm surprised that this isn't bigger news. Maybe no one is surprised anymore.

Sad news. I always used Kodak film in the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, back then, if someone had told me that one day, there would be cameras that don't use film, I would never have believed it.

Surely, Japan needs to inject its cash reserves into the Japanese economy first and foremost.

It's only a matter of time before someone is killed. I am completely against whaling but I also believe that the activists are 100% to blame if anyone gets hurt.

Wouldn't it be fascinating to find a piece of that rock? To hold in your hands a rock from another planet.

I think Japan's subways are the best in the world for the usual reasons -- efficiency, cleanliness and so on.

But as for negative points, I'd like to see the following improved or changed:

    1. Have subways run 24 hours a day.

    2. Have some express services in the big cities to ease congestion.

    3. Do away with the separate fares for the various lines. Have one fare for all subway operators and for all distances.

    4. More seats on the platforms.

That's what I was thinking, too. Not exactly ideal for a rapid response.

I think many of you are being too hard on Hamasaki. I can understand how the March 11 disaster would make her want to stay in Japan. That is a very natural feeling. I wonder if the husband had any interest in moving to Japan with her.

It's difficult when you have young children, trying to make sure they don't hear such language. The problem lies with TV and movie producers putting in curse words in the first place. They are not needed to tell a good story.

Recently, I watched "Reservoir Dogs," which I really like. But the constant stream of F words started to really grate on my nerves to the point of distraction.

It's why I always enjoy watching my favorite TV shows from the 1970s and 1960s and all the great movies from the Golden Age of the 1940s and '50s. Would Bogart's movies have sounded better if he had used the F word? No.

Nothing new or original at all. It's no wonder the box office is down in most countries.

    Good work by the police.

I hope all the JT readers who regularly insult the police by calling them Keystones, etc, have enough class to at least compliment them this time.

Geithner is probably landing in Washington about now. I wonder what he will think when he hears this news.

Well, that didn't take long. I suspect that after Azumi caved in to Geithner yesterday, Keidanren and a few other powerful business groups explained the facts of life to him about what would happen to the economy if Japan's oil supply were put in jeopardy.

He is extremely dangerous. This morning's news said that he is believed to have already broken into a home and stolen clothing. I don't doubt that he will kill without hesitation to avoid being caught. His nationality has nothing to do with it.
